Chapter 43 - Tomb Raider #1

After analysing the material, I began scanning the entire pyramid to find the way in and create a map of this place. We don't want to get lost here.

It took me more time than I expected to scan the entire pyramid because it appears to be larger on the inside than it looks on the outside. Not that it looks small from the outside.

Once I scanned it, I turned to the others and said, "All right, now we have a map of this place. But I must warn you, getting there will take us a long time."

"Doesn't matter, let's get started." Yuuki replied.

It seemed that everyone was impatiently waiting to learn what secrets this pyramid held.

I pushed what looked like a door in front of me, and to my great surprise, it was a door.

When I'd scanned the pyramid before, for some reason I'd not found a door on the outside. I thought about blasting my way through, but a door is better, I think.

As soon as the door opened, the corridor in front of me was pitch black, but as I went in, the torches that were on the sides of the corridor suddenly lit up.

I guess that scared Yuuki and Miko, who hid behind me.

After that, we went further inside. I'd taken one of the torches with me in case there would be no source of light later, and it seems my reasoning was right, because after a while all the torches went out due to a sudden gust of wind.

We moved further inside without difficulty, as I'd made a map of the place. Some corridors were narrow, others were as wide as a whole room, and still others were so small that we could only fit in with difficulty. But we managed to get past all these corridors and finally arrived back in an area with torches.

Something went through my mind then. If this stone was partially transparent, why wasn't the light coming down here? Instead, once we were inside, the passage was pitch black. Does this material also deflect the sun's rays?

[Precisely.] I heard Eyva's voice in my head.

I see that this material is indeed something interesting. Who knows when it'll be useful. It's a good thing I've already analysed it.

The room we were in had a huge hole in the middle. I duplicated the torch I was holding and threw the other one into the pit. And I've to say that what I saw down there I'd prefer to forget. It was full of scorpions, but not normal ones, they'd been mutated by the virus and were eating a human. I'd the impression that the human was still alive because I could see one of his eyes moving, but that was the worst part.

The scorpions had made him their nest. I saw some come out of his mouth and another put its eggs in his left eye, and the new scorpions hatched almost immediately and came out of his eye. But then another scorpion came and put its tale in the person's right eye and took it out.

Honestly, I don't even want to know how that person feels now. And I want to forget this scene as soon as possible. This is something that no one should see in their life. But why was he still alive after all this?

Anyway, it's better for me if I never know.

Unfortunately, Yuuki also saw the scene, and he immediately felt sick and went to throw up in the corner. Fortunately, I managed to stop Miko from seeing that scene.

When the light of the torch I'd thrown went out, I saw hundreds, even thousands of bright red eyes looking at me. At that moment, a shiver ran down my spine. It was time for me to kill these scorpions.

I made another torch and threw it down. But this time I'd enchanted the flame, so the fire spread like crazy down there. I made a sword and threw it towards the man who'd become a nest for the scorpions to give him a quick death. That was the only thing I could do now.

Although many scorpions were burned alive by the fire, most of them survived and began to build a ladder to reach us.

"Get ready to fight, everyone!" I shouted.

I was already planning to kill them all by myself, but Miko stood in front of me and said, "No, leave it to me, I can do it."

Trusting her, I took a step back and left it to her to deal with the scorpions.

When they reached us, they came at us in a kind of wave.

But Miko didn't flinch at all. She stood still, raised her hand, and her eyes began to glow in the darkness.

All the torches had gone out because of the scorpion wave, and so I could see Miko's eyes shining clearly. She looked so beautiful and domining at the same time.

She held the scorpions trapped inside one of her cubes and began to slowly shrink it. The scorpions inside were crushed until the cube was only the size of a gum wrapper. Miko smashed the cube into the wall on the left side, creating a hole, and covered it with a rock.

"Whew, I did it!" She exclaimed.

I smiled at her and then hugged her.

I built a bridge so we could cross the hole and glanced back before continuing into the next room.

According to the map, the next room wasn't too far away. It took us about five minutes to get there.

But why do all rooms have to contain traps with insects? I mean, the previous room was filled with scorpions, and now this room is filled with spiders? Why is that? Are we in a Tomb Raider movie?

The whole room was covered with spider webs, and on top of them were the spiders. Fortunately, the spiders had not mutated. I can just burn them down.

I moved closer to them, but just before I could burn them, spikes appeared from both sides of the wall and hit me at extremely high speed. I managed to put up two walls to protect myself from them, but when I looked down, I saw that my entire body was pierced by those spikes. They had penetrated the gorvium just as if it were paper.

The others were shocked to see me like that. But I just moved away from there and tore the flesh off my body.

Miko was worried about me, because half of my body was torn apart, and I was standing still only with the help of my spine. But after a while my wounds began to heal, as was normal.

Whew, that was dangerous even for me. If those spikes had been aimed at my head, I would be dead now.

"Hey, Eyva, didn't you say that gorvium is the strongest material? Then why was it get penetrated like that from those spikes?"

[Gorvium is indeed the strongest material. The only thing that can break it is something made of the same material.]

"Wait, that means that..."

[That's right, those spikes were made of gorvium.]

Damn, that was unexpected. Why are there gorvium here? I guess I'll find out when I reach the central room.

After my body healed, I picked up the torch, lit it, and burned the spider biome that was in front of me.

All right, one last room and then... the truth.
