Chapter 48 - The world has changed

After watching Yuuki flying away with the UFO I took some time to reconsider my actions as a sudden feeling of guilt surged from me.

Although I had come to my senses it was already late. I had killed Ayuri and that was a fact.

I wanted to drive Yuuki and Miko away as it was clear to me that something's wrong with my personality.

I lose control over myself pretty easily and that can be threatening to the people around me.

Ayuri was the first one to pay the price of my impudence and indeed as she said that's something that I'll regret and it will haunt me for the rest of my life.

I would really love to go with them, but currently I'm a bomb that can explode very easily. Unless I have get rid of that problem I ain't getting close to them, or any other human being.

With those thoughts in my mind I started looking for a way out of here. Cause ain't no way that crazy scientist arrived here the same way we did.

And as I thought after a little bit of searching I found an elevator near the facility. Though it was seemingly too old and probably not working.

"Eyva, can I use my ability to fix that thing?"

[You sure can.] Was her reply.

Well, it's the only way out.

I moved my hand above the operating system and used [Matter control].

The surface slowly started covering in the dark metal, following the rest of the elevator and the cables.

That took about three minutes I think, till the dark material returned inside my hand again.

And I must say that under normal circumstances I would have been the best repairer in the world. The elevator looked new and shiny.

But that's for the best if I don't want the cables to cut off while I'll be ascending, if we suppose that it would be able to start.

By pressing the big red button the elevator slowly started ascending.

But, oh damn, it was too slow.

I had a feeling that this was going to be a long way out. But that can't compete with what I was thinking.

Thus not having anything else to do I decided to take a nap inside the elevator as it was spacey enough for me to lay down.

But no matter how hard I tried I couldn't sleep while hearing the creaking sound of the motor's gears.

So I just stayed silent and waited for the elevator to lift me all the way to the surface, while watching the view but without giving much attention as I was deep into my thoughts.

But those thoughts were cut off suddenly by the jolt of the elevator as it finally arrived at its destination.

I was in a dark room with a lamp hanging from the ceiling with a flickering light illuminating the room.

In front of me there was a metallic door painted in white. Though the paint had begun to peel off and the rusty metal was visible from beneath.

I slowly pushed it and with a loud squeak it opened.

Before me there was a field full of wheat as far as the eye could see.

I guess now the only way for people to eat is to cultivate the crops. Farmers surely had a major advantage in that.

But except for the field, that place was full of vegetation.

From the ruins I could make out that I was standing in the middle of some village. Most of the houses were torn down, but even the ones standing had been left to nature's hands.

Honestly it was kinda beautiful seeing things like that.

I always admired the sceneries in the post-apocalyptic games and movies, but seeing one from up close… The sensation is totally different from what I had imagined. I have a feeling of admiration and euphoria building inside of me.

Even the sun's rays gave the field a golden shining color.

But as much as I would like to sit here and gaze at the scenery, it's better for me to be away from people for now.

Thus I departed from the field and walked towards the forest on my right side.

Walking through the village, I could see a harmony between human structures and nature. I guess it's true that nature rules over everything with time.

Broken houses, empty stores, torn clothes and human bones in some places composed the exact post apocalyptic scenery that I always imagined.

From one hand it was beautiful seeing nature being like that, but on the other hand it could clearly give an understanding of how these people reacted, tried to fight back, to survive, but died in the process.

The feelings someone could have upon seeing that were probably mixed.

And with those thoughts I left the village and entered the forest.

From far away it seemed pretty big, but now that I'm inside I'm thinking that probably that was due to how many trees there are here. That forest is pretty dense.

The time passed while I was roaming and got hungry.

Following Eyva's instructions I managed to find and gather different types of food that were going to keep me full for now.

While eating a berry I heard the call of a deer. I didn't expect to see or hear one here, but I guess it's my lucky day. I can hunt it down and cook it.

Thus with Eyva's help I managed to track it down.

And by using my skill to make a simple compound bow and arrows, I aimed for its head.

But the moment I was ready to shoot it turned its head towards me. Or it's better to say its heads.

That deer had two heads with the in-between part being somewhat melted, like someone had tried to split the main head in two resulting in the making of that thing.

I may be immune to almost every physical damage but I still am not sure if I have immunity against that virus. And to be honest I don't plan on finding it through trial and error.

I'll just stick to what nature has to offer to me.

Seems like that world has completely changed. It's by no means the one I was used to. Now I'll have to get used to it and survive in this post apocalyptic world.

Well, I guess this will be fun.
