After exploring that forest for quite some time I discovered that this forest wasn't supposed to be here.
Almost every tree here isn't actually a normal tree.
After using my ability to analyze them I found out that those trees in reality were humans before turning like that.
I don't know what caused this and to be honest I don't want to find out.
I was thinking of building a small cabin here in the middle of the forest, but now with its secret uncovered I must say that I don't feel very comfortable living here.
That's why I decided to move past the forest and see what else is out there.
It took me at least two hours to get out. I didn't expect it to be that huge, but now it makes me feel even more uneasy thinking that all these trees were humans once.
In some of them the faces were still partially visible. Faces full of fear and pain at the same time.
Surely no one would be able to sleep in there without having nightmares.
After leaving behind the forest I found myself in the middle of a highway.
The sun was still up so I could clearly distinguish everything before my eyes.
Abandoned cars left on their fate to rust, grass sprouting from every crack the road has and extending for meters and silence.
Seems like everyone left panicked from here in a rush.
Most of the car doors were still open, while others were broken or laying on the road cut off from the rest of the car.
Not knowing where to go I decided to just keep on walking down the highway.
Hopefully it would lead me to some city which I sincerely hope won't be too far away.
At least, thanks to that virus I can run for as long as I can as I won't run out of stamina. Plus my body is more powerful so I'll be able to run a lot faster.
And that's what I did.
I started running at full speed following the highway's path.
After a few minutes of continuous running I saw a vehicle approaching from far away.
It looked like a military transporting vehicle.
From where I was standing I could see five men with assault rifles and armor being on top of the vehicle.
But when the vehicle came a bit closer from behind it appeared another one.
They also had spikes and thick metal armor on the front and the sides.
From my knowledge about post-apocalyptic and zombie movies I'm pretty sure that those soldiers belong to one of the two main factions that fight because they have different ideologies based on some matter concerning the zombies.
I sure as hell bet all my money that one of them wants to find a cure for the zombies and the other one wants to exterminate them from the face of the planet.
From my point of view, I believe that both factions don't have any ill intent, because if you look from their perspective, one wants to turn the zombies back to what they used to be, humans and the other one wants to exterminate them because they want to protect the rest of humanity.
So neither of them is wrong, but neither of them is right as they do everything they can to achieve their goal. Even if that means putting their humanity aside.
I don't wanna find myself having to choose one of the two sides, but I also have been starving for quite some time now, so I really don't care which side I'll take as long as they give me food.
I may not be able to die from starvation, but I still have the feeling, and it isn't the most pleasant thing in the world.
Thus having stopped running and just by slowly walking I wanted for the vehicles to come to me.
Once they were close enough both of them stopped and the soldiers on top aimed their weapons towards me.
I guess that's how things are in the apocalypse.
You should be prepared for everything.
Then, the right door from the first vehicle opened and someone jumped down.
He was wearing full armor and was holding an automatic rifle, like the soldiers on top.
He approached me and said, "What does a little girl like you do out here in the wild?"
To be honest I was expecting an intimidating tone, but on the contrary his words gave me the assurance that everything was fine and he was harmless.
But even so, I kept on being alert as the other people hadn't lowered their gums yet.
I could easily kill all of them right now, but if I did that, I still wouldn't have anything to eat for two reasons.
First of all, those vehicles didn't have any food in them and secondly even if I killed them I wouldn't resort to cannibalism to fulfill my appetite.
Thus I decided to tell a made up story.
"Actually I was with my brother and some other survivors. But the zombies attacked us and everyone died right in front of my eyes." I said while putting a fake tear on.
"How were you able to make it out alive?"
"My brother gave his life for me, so I would live."
"And how were you able to survive till now?"
"I was extra careful after that incident and was eating anything I could lay my hand on in order to barely survive."
He looked like he was believing my story so far.
I also had changed my clothes previously to match with the story I had come up with.
"Sir, do you have anything edible? I haven't eaten for a day."
"Sure, sure." He replied and started searching his pockets, only to pull out a small loaf of bread.
Well, it wasn't the dinner I was hoping to have, but it's better than nothing.
After taking the bread and eating it as fast as I could, I saw him nodding to the soldiers to put down their guns.
Then he said, "Do you want to come with us to our establishment? There's food there, as well as other kids for you to play with. And most of all you will be safe."
"I would love to." I replied with a warm smile.
And after that he helped me board the vehicle and we set off from their establishment.
I can't wait to see which of the two factions I belong to now.
