Chapter 9 - As the Lightening in A Broad Daylight

"Oh, my God ... What's wrong with my mom? She even acted as daddy is dead ... Oh, God … I hate, I hate her," said Yuana in the rain. While her legs just kept running.

Her body started to get cold. Her teeth chattered. Yuana didn't stop. Even though her pace slowed down she kept on running. More than half an hour later she arrived.

Knock knock!!!

With all her might she knocked on the door. The door opened from the inside.

"Yuan??" Bobby was very surprised to see Yuana at his doorstep. She was soaking wet, shivering, and crying.

"Yuan? What happened? Come on in!" Bobby led Yuana who was shaking.

"Help me, Bob ..." Yuana murmured in a low and trembling voice.

Bobby took Yuana to the inner room. Bobby asked his maid, Mrs. Rumi to help Yuana change clothes. He had to lend her his shirt and pants. He also gave Yuana a thick jacket. He didn't have any siblings, so he had no choice but gave his own clothes.

Rumi made a warm ginger drink for Yuana. Bobby's parents were going to Surabaya.

"Are you okay?" Bobby asked. He was still wondering what had happened to make Yuana that messed up.

Yuana nodded.

"Can you tell me what happens?" Bobby looked at Yuana.

"Mom, my mom, Bob ..." said Yuana. "She has another man ... She wants to marry him ..." Yuana started crying again. She told Bobby what she had heard from the man. Yuana was very angry. Again, the wound was growing in her heart.

Bobby didn't know what to say. He never thought it would turn out so bad.

"Help me, God, how can I help Yuan now?" Bobby's prayer in his heart.

"Bob, I can't stand all this anymore. I just want to go away. I don't want to see them again. What kind of family do I have? What kind of home? I can't handle it, Bob." Yuana looked at Bobby.

"You can do it, Yu. It is your family. And I'm here," said Bobby. "I will just stay with me."

Yuan nodded. "If it weren't for you and Manfred with me, I might have gone mad from all this."

"Believe me, one day everything will change. Sooner or later." Bobby patted Yuana's shoulder.

"Sometimes I wish that mom and dad weren't married off by Grandpa. The situation would be different. As you know, they were married off because of their parents' business matters." Yuana said something that shocked Bobby.

"So, they didn't marry for love, right?" said Bobby.

Yuan shook her head. "No. They were forced to do it. They also have children because of the agreement from their parents."

Bobby began to understand why Yuana's family was not harmonious. The reason her parents got married was the initial cause of all the chaos that occurred.

"I don't wanna go home," said Yuana, sadly.

"But you can't stay here, Yu," Bobby persuaded. Yuana was silent.

Bobby took food for Yuana. He forced Yuana to eat. He didn't want her to get sick. With a heavy heart, Yuana also ate the food that Bobby brought for her. Then Bobby took Yuana going home.

*****

Yuana looked at Bobby's photo on her cellphone. Handsome with a cheerful smile. Indeed, Bobby was always excited about doing everything.

The exam was over. Soon graduating from high school would pass. Time flew so fast. Yuana just had to make sure of her steps to reach the future. She didn't want to be grandiose. Studying in finance, then later being able to work in a fairly large company, so she could earn quite a bit too. Then she could leave her house.

"God, thank you for bringing Bobby into my life. I beg that we are always together. I don't want to be separated from him. He has always strengthened me through the many bad things I've been through," said Yuana in her heart.

"Always, daydreaming ..." Manfred patted Yuana's shoulder.

"Hey ... Fred." Yuana turned around. "Where's Bobby?"

"I should be the one asking you. Where's Bobby?" Manfred sat by Yuana's side, near the school gate.

"Yeah, but you guys are usually together with when you leave class," said Yuana.

"Lucky boy." Manfred pointed in front of them. Bobby was seen walking briskly towards Yuana and Manfred.

"Sorry ... I'm still talking to Dani and Ido. Talk about farewell recreation," said Bobby.

"Yeah, that's okay. The important person must be waited on," joked Manfred. Bobby laughed.

After the final exam, Bobby asked for Yuana and Manfred to watch the movie and then eat together at the food court. Manfred and Yuana happily agreed. They went to the mall which has a theater on the top floor. They unwind after being tired of struggling with endless questions and answers.

By three o'clock in the afternoon, it was finished. Then they returned to their respective homes. After four o'clock, Bobby entered the house. He crossed the living room, headed for the bedroom.

"Bob!" called his father who was sitting there. Apparently, he was waiting for Bobby to come home. Bobby approached his father.

"I have something important I need to talk to you about. Sit down," said his father, Berto Alehandro.

Bobby sat across from his father. His mother, Dewita Hastari, came with a glass of warm drink for Berto. Then she sat next to her husband.

"This is something that happened a long time ago but I haven't told you yet," said Berto. He was looked so serious.

"Actually, since you were a baby, Mom and Dad have set you up with a daughter of my friend, her name is Lisa. Lisa's parents have done a lot for me and your mom too so that I can be who I am today. That's why when Lisa's parents asked for our relationship to be strengthened into a family with our children's marriage, your mom and I agreed."

Bobby was shocked to hear the news. As being struck by lightning in broad daylight.

"Dad, I'm dating Yuana. And you know it. I love her, Dad. Mom ..." Bobby also looked at his mother.

His mother just stared blankly. There were hints that she asking Bobby to accept the decision.

"Listen to your father's explanation, Bob," said Dewita.

"Lisa needs you more. Right now, her mother is very sick. It might not last long. She wants to be sure, that our agreement will be fulfilled, soon. Before she dies, she wants her daughter to be married," said Berto. His voice sounded a little hoarse, holding back sadness.

"Married? You mean soon?" Bobby was even more shocked.

"Yes. This is all I ask of you." Berto glared at Bobby. Reassure Bobby, he was very serious.

"Just this? Dad, I don't know Lisa. How can you ask me to marry someone I don't know anything about her at all. I can't do this, Dad." Bobby's chest was pounding as if something was about to explode.

"Listen, Bobby Alehandro. Since you were little, I have never demanded you to do anything. Even your desire to become a doctor like me, nor have I ever persuaded or pressured you. I have given you the freedom to choose what you want for your future.

"Only one I ask from you. For the sake of a mother, for the sake of a daughter's life. I have confirmed to them that you are willing to accept Lisa," said Berto.

Bobby immediately felt weak all over his body. "Dad ..." he said quietly. "One thing that you want me to do, but this is for the rest of my life. It changes the future I've planned for. Dad, I can't."

"I have promised. And I know you can do this." Berto's gaze was sharp. Bobby knew, there were no words that could refute his father.
