Marcus breathed out in relief, but it was short-lived because suddenly Katherine let out a loud gasp as she sat on her bed.
Marcus tried to tell her to continue lying because she was still weak, but she refused. She asked for Darrell and said that she had ten minutes only.
Marcus runs out of the room to look for his alpha.
He found him outside the hospital wing as he was pacing to and from.
"Katherine has woken up, and she is asking for you." Marcus did not finish his sentence because immediately, he said that Katherine had woken up. Darrell left him and ran to his mate's ward.
He busted into the door.
The nurse that was attending to his mare has left the room leaving the two lovers to bond again.
"Darrell, my love, I have ten minutes before I die," before Katherine could complete her sentence, Darrell interrupted her.
"You will not die on me, so inform whoever's that has told you that you are not staying that I said so. You are my mate, and I will be nothing without you. Please do not leave me again." Darrell begged as his voice cracked at the end.
Katherine also was crying, but she knew she did not have a say on this, so she continued with the message she wanted to pass
"I have been told that you have a new mate. I want you to love her unconditionally as you would have loved, and as you used to love me, the whole of the werewolves and the hunters depend on you both, so do not fail. I will be praying to the moon goddess for you. Though she is the one that killed me but is wishing well for her, and you do not feel you are obliged to me by any means." Katherine sadly told her mate, who was not believing what he was hearing. Not knowing what he could do, he joined his mate on the hospital bed she was in and held her close to his body for the last time.
Katherine was crying silently in his chest, making his t-shirt wet with her tears. After the ten minutes were over, there was silence as Katherine breathed her last breath.
Not believing still that she had left him, Darrell started shaking her, shouting at her to wake up and be with him.
He placed his head on her chest that was not moving and sobbed loudly.
When he saw that she was not waking up, he stood up, and his eyes turned bright red. His crawls came out, and he growled out loudly, making everyone in the packhouse bow down his walked to the door, breaking it in the process.
The other werewolves that were in the hospital moved away from the corridors. Wanting to be the target of his anger at this time, he was this angry.
He headed for the dungeon. Marcus and his team went back to the ward that was chaotic. They took their lifeless Luna to the mortuary so they could prepare her for the burial.
Meanwhile, Darrell was in the dungeon. Cyrene's parents were being held. He walked into the cold dungeon. It was built of black stones. There was a small hole high on the wall opposite where Arawn and Jumanah had been chained to the wall. It was the only source of light and air in the filthy dungeon. There was water linking from the slab above them because above them was the laundry area of the pack.
The linking slab made the place chilling. Arawn was not wearing anything from the waist upward, and his wife was only having the sports bra she was wearing earlier and some leather pants that were dirty with dry blood on them, some hers and the other from the vampires and the werewolves she was fighting.
When they came from the battle, they were taken to the dungeon chained to the wall, and a few minutes later, Basil had come down there to interrogate Jumanah.
"So this is the guy you left me for because I was a monster, but I am very glad you did reject me because I found one that has brain up here," Basil said as he hit Jumanah on the head.
Jumanah looked at him as if he was the most disgusting thing she had seen since she was born and spat on him.
Maybe someone should have taught that werewolves' alphas do not take kindly to being disrespected.
Basil's face turned red as he folded his hand into a fist, and he kicked Jumanah hard on the face such that her head sang back and created a hole in the wall behind her.
