She could still remember her friend greeting her happily that morning before she went running in her wolf form.
Before she left, Katherine even went to check on the people who were on duty that day to cook. She ensured that everything was running smoothly in the kitchen. Katherine also had a little chat with other pack's women before taking one of the buns that were smelling delicious and had just come out of the oven.
At that time, Isabella was sitting at the patio next to the beta's house, peacefully reading a novel. She saw Katherine walk out of the big alpha family house.
The pack was so big that it had thousands of members. Outside the alpha house, there was a big fountain that had its water coming out of a wolf that was howling to the moon. Bright flowers were planted around it giving the building a happy and vibrant feeling.
A small kid would be seen running aimlessly in a park that was to the right of the building. They had greeted their Luna joyfully and others in loud baby voices.
Katherine would always have a smile on her face, ready for them as she waved. Isabella knew that her friend loved the kids as they always made her day good, especially when her mate would not.
Her pack adored her because she was polite to them, and she treated everyone equally as a royal or an omega.
Just the usual, Katherine waved to Isabella as well before she jogged to the woods. Until she came to a small clearing, she removed her clothes and transformed into the beautiful white wolf. She bit her clothes and took off, running to her usual path.
At that time, no one would know that Katherine would be wounded and now on the verge of dying in their own territory.
It did not take long for the patrol to notice the bloody smell. When they found her, the patrol immediately informed the alpha before everyone else.
Katherine was found in the lake, half shifted, her ears were of her wolf, and she still has her canines, indicating that she was trying to shift back to human but was unable to.
Her fur covered most of her body except her face that had fully transformed into a human one.
Now, the most they could do was pray and wait.
Isabella was on the verge of tears as she waited for the news from the doctors. Hours have already passed, but there was still no update.
The beta, Clive, had arrived after they had tracked down who had hurt Katherine. After hours of search, they were not able to catch the culprit. However, they had realized something during the search.
The one that they were looking for is female and must be from the hunter clan. She was a huntress that managed to get in the pack territory without them alarmed.
This worried him greatly. Clive even tried to contact other packs neighboring them to see if they could be lucky, but that was not their day.
They decided to go back to the packhouse and have a better plan to work with. On arriving, Clive went direct to the hospital to look out for his friend because he knew that this was the time he needed him most. His mate was the first person he saw who explained to him the situation.
Just as Isabella was still talking to Clive, the operating room opened.
Marcus was still wearing the surgical gown. His face looked devastated as he approached them.
"We lost the pup. She is in a coma, and we will transfer her to the ICU. We will do our best to save Luna," He said, looking exhausted but with a determination was in his eyes.
After that, Marcus bid his farewell and returned to the operating room, probably going to help transfer Katherine to the ICU.
Clive shove his hand over his face tiredly, "I think it is better if we take Darrell to the restraining room. Otherwise, we are going have a hard job to contain him." He said sadly.
This news was just too devastating. Darrell was really looking forward to meeting his first pup. Aside from that, his mate was still in a coma.
He also knew that despite Marcus not admitting it, there was surely a low chance of survival. If not, Marcus had already assured them.
Isabella shook her head, "I think it is better if alpha stayed here. Better if next to Katherine to help her wolf heal…." She suggested seriously.
Clive agreed to this after some thought. Even when his wolf was controlling Darrell, he would still not harm his mate.
No matter how hard Marcus and his team had worked, they did not manage to save their alpha's first child.
