Chapter 34 - Side Story IV: Catalyn's Training!

The figure of two people are seen walking along the street. One is wearing the clothes of a maid. Beautiful, ruffly, and quite expensive looking. The maid is seen pushing a stroller containing the other person inside of it. A baby with white hair and brown eyes, and the occasional tint of green that flashes unknowingly.

"You got this. Let's start of with a good morning, or hello." Kenneth said to her through Mind Link.

Walking pass multiple crowds of people, Catalyn couldn't find the time to greet someone. She'd subtly open her lips, and at that moment, would seem like she was going to say something, but at the last moment, stop.

"Hey, come on. You got this." (Kenneth)

Catalyn looked at the baby who was looking at her with eyes that screamed, "you got this!"

'Young master....'

"Hey. Stop for a minute. Let's sit over there." Kenneth points to a nearby bench that was empty.

"Tell me, what's wrong?" (Kenneth)

"I... can't talk to people." (Catalyn)

"Hey, come here, pick me up." Catalyn reaches into the stroller and picks up Kenneth, who was stretching his arms out, how cute.

She brings her young master to her face and he stares at her for a whole minute before reaching his tiny arms out and hugging her neck.

"Do this for me. You already know this, but something will happen very soon. I want you to be in top shape, and with your communication skills, we'll be having a much harder time im battle. This'll help you in daily life as well. I thought about it, and I've decided that all five of us are going to be attending the Royal Academy. Once we get that title, I'm taking all of my siblings with me." (Kenneth)

"Young master.... alright. I will do it." (Catalyn)

She places the baby back into the stroller. Taking a deep breath, she walks along the streets, until she finds another woman, pushing a stroller.

Slowly increasing her speed to catch up to the woman, she takes deep breaths, until she finally was right beside her.

"Um.. good morning. How... old is he?" Catalyn says as she points to the baby in the stroller.

"Oh, why good morning. He's only three months old. How about yours? Oh, he looks so cute!" The woman looks at Kenneth.

"He's my brother.. and he's three months old too." (Catalyn)

"Oh really? I admire you taking your brother for a walk. My name is Olivia, and my child here is Otho."

"Catalyn... and Kenneth."

"My, what wonderful names. I must go now, I might miss the daily sale at the mall. It was nice talking to you two!" (Olivia)

"You too, thanks." (Catalyn)

Seeing Olivia continue on, Catalyn, under Kenneth's request stopped by on another empty bench.

"Nice job. There wasn't anything bad about it, now was there? Good job. Come here, pick me up." Catalyn picks up Kenneth and he once again wraps his arms around her neck and hugs her tightly.

"Young master, thank you." Catalyn returns the hug.

"Alright, alright, that's enough. Don't forget that we still have four more people to talk to! I know you can do it. After all, you're my big sister, right?" (Kenneth)

"Yes!" (Catalyn)

The two continued on and kept on walking. This time, they found a vendor selling French Fries. The man seemed proficient in his work, taking the pile of fries and chucking it perfectly into the containers.

"Good morning there, missy. What can I get for you today?"

"I'll just have the spicy cheese.. fries." (Catalyn)

'Nice. She kept a straight face and didn't stutter much. She's getting better.' Kenneth thought to himself.

"Coming right up. It'll be ready in two minutes, sit tight."

The vendor began to throw in a new batch of fries into the deep fryer, the oil splashing everywhere yet seemingly not hurting him.

"Does that.. not hurt?" (Catalyn)

"Oh this? Not really. I've been getting hit with hot oil and grease for so long then I must've gotten an immunity to it. Waha! No but seriously, it's just a special type of oil that doesn't burn human skin."

Catalyn nods to that, looking interested for more.

"You wanna know how I got this job? Well, my whole family started this as a side job, but when I was the only one left after a monster attack, I decided to run it full time. It might not pay much, but I enjoy it."

"I see. I'm sorry for your.. loss." (Catalyn)

"Hah. Don't worry about it. Pops might've wanted me to run it by myself, this cart here was ways his pride and joy. Alright, order up! Here's your fries, miss."

"Thanks.." Catalyn types in Lena's bank account details.

"No problem. Ay come again soon!" The vendor waves them goodbye.

"That was great, Catalyn. Alright, three more! Let me try some of the fries too, I'm hungry."

"Deli..cious." Catalyn said as she stuffed a handful of the food inside her mouth, the hot melted cheese touching her skin, yet seemingly not burning her at the very least.

After the first two, they went ahead and talked to another vendor that sold iced tea, and a man walking two dogs.

"Hello.. good morning." Catalyn greets the man who was walking his dogs. Her greeting catches his attention, along with the dogs'.

"Good morning, miss. It's a fine day, isn't it? Perfect for a walk with Cyclops and Yurian here." He points towards the two dogs walking in front of him, the leash ever so shaking every one in a while. Catalyn felt that the dogs could easily escape, as the man didn't look like he was putting much strength into his grip.

"What.. breeds are your dogs?" (Catalyn)

"Oh, these two? Cyclops over here is a War Hound. Actually lost one of his eyes during a battle. And Yurian here is a Fahndranian Wolf. They're both very good boys."

"I see. I'm sorry to ask this, but you don't seem.. like you're much force into your grip." (Catalyn)

"Heh, no worries. I trust the dogs so much that we could go for a walk and not even need a leash and collars. I tried to convince them multiple times, but they always just hand back the collars to me."

"Mister, these dogs are cute." Kenneth is seen petting Cyclops, who had gone closer to him and was sniffing the baby.

"Oh? Looks like the little baby can talk. They are cute, aren't they?"

"Yes, yes. Paw?" Kenneth reaches out his small hand and stretches it to form a "high five" hand.

"Woof." Cyclops reaches out his paw and touches it against the baby's.

"Good boy." Kenneth uses his other hand to pet the dog.

"Have you got a dog too, miss? Yurian seems like he can smell the odor of a canine friend on your baby."

"Yes. His name is... Tyrone and he's a King's.. Guardian." (Catalyn)

"Oh, so that's why. King's Guardian are like the dog's version of kings. The smell on your baby must've made them think he was the owner of their king."

"But aren't there many King's Guardians? Even the King of Fahndra has one as his personal pet." Kenneth asks the man.

"Indeed. And along with it, many other dogs. The king doesn't take care of any of the dogs besides the King's Guardian. The others are cared for by his servants."

"I see.. can I try it?" (Catalyn)

"Sure, go ahead, miss."

"Then.. paw." Catalyn reached out her hand towards Yurian, who was looking at her cautiously. The dog took a few seconds to scan the girl, but soon lifted his own paw and pressed it on girl's.

"Oh, he likes you too. That's nice." The man says, sounding surprised.

"Thank you for talking with us, mister. My name is Catalyn. This is.. Kenneth." (Catalyn)

"Oh, mine is Nick. I live right beside the A.T.C, so come talk to me if you guys want to play around. Cyclops and Yurian seem like they'd like to see you two again."

"Thank you. Goodbye, Nick."

"See you two later." Nick walks off with his two dogs, and Catalyn once again brings Kenneth to the sidewalk.

"Great job, Catalyn. You barely even stuttered. I think you've done good enough. What's your wish?" (Kenneth)

"To spend more time with young master." (Catalyn)

"You spend practically the whole day with me, you know. Got anything else?" (Kenneth)

"Then.. how about another walk with master next time?" (Catalyn)

"If that's what you want, sure. Then a walk it is. Should we go home now? It's almost lunch."

"Sure, young master." Catalyn, no longer stuttering, agreed with Kenneth, and turned in the direction of their home.
