Chapter 22 - The Kid Cannot Die

Inside the AIRC(Argumented Intelligence Retro-Framing Company), a middle-aged man was typing on a machine, and from time to time, write something on the clipboard in his right hand. Then a door automatically opened, revealing a woman in her twenties came walking through the opened door.

"Any news yet?" the middle-aged man asked without looking up from what he was doing. "Yes, there is. We've located the residence of the kid. His alias was not Richard, as Mr Andrew had tried to fool us with. His name is James Smith, as his birth—"

The woman was interrupted by the man "Hey, take a good look at me Amy, do I look like someone who cared about his f*cking name? Do I?" the man smiled, but he was not smiling. "Your job is to locate the person in possession of the omega chip, and that's all, nothing else" the man then waved her off and continued writing on the clipboard he was holding.

"Uhh sir, should…should I drop the tablet here sir? Or should I—"

Damn it, Amy! Drop the goddamn tablet on the table! Why the hell did you come here then Amy!" the man screamed at Amy, who quickly dropped the transparent tablet and scurried away.

"Urgh" the man groaned as he rubbed his forehead, then he sat down. He took the tablet Amy dropped and looked at the screen. The tablet displayed a detailed map and a green dot located above New York. The man rubbed his chin and pondered.

"Did you think you could hide your son from us, Andrew? Humph, what an idiot. Only if you have given us the chip, you would still be standing with us, but no, you decided to plant a multi-billion-dollar prototype to an insignificant kid."

The man then stood up from his hovering chair and walked around the room pondering. Then he went to his E-Desk and swiped through his table, and a man's face with a white suit came up.

"We found the kid Mark, what's the next action," the man said.

"What do you mean 'what's the next action', send the strike team immediately!" the man with the white shirt said impatiently. "Woah sir, you need to relax, please. We have to think this through before taking the next step. The incompetence of the two we sent must have alerted the family he is currently living with, so we have to make a reasonable decision" the man slowly said.

The man with the white shirt then sighed and stared straight at the man "So what do you think we should do?" a man walked over to the camera and gave the man a document. "Well, I think we should lure James over. That way no one would be alerted of anything, not even his foster parents." The man said.

"Lure him over. You think this 'lure him' scheme of yours would work or is it just another stupid idea of yours" the man with the white shirt glared at the man.

The man forced a smile "Yes sir, I would personally make sure this plan goes through, trust me." "Hmm, if it were that easy" the man with the white shirt finally said and end the video call. 'What an idiot' he thought angrily.

In a small office, Amy was typing on her computer, and she looked a bit lost. She had worked in AIRC for a long time, so she knew the nooks and crannies of these companies. Amy loved her job dearly, so she tried her best to impress the man she was working for. The only thing she hates is the attitude of her manager and the people working here.

The man had never smiled before, at least that's what she thought of him. He was always bossy, always complaining at her, despite her best efforts in impressing him, and angry, but she dared not tell her boss, because she did not know what he was going to do to her if she decided to resign.

Once upon a time, she had asked her manager about the identity of the person that worked for him before, but the only answer she received was an eye-piercing glare and a threat to exterminate her if she ever asked that question, and since then, she never asked any question, only doing what he told him to do.

On the other hand, the job was very lucrative. At least she earns six-digit every month, she always tried to reassure herself.

Beep. Her cellphone rang. She picked her mobile phone and connected the line.

"Honey, I told you not to call me during work, we talked about this Matt," she said to the person on the other line. "Oh, I'm sorry beautiful, it's just that I miss you so much," the man on the other line said. "You saw me this morning Matt," Amy said, squinting her eyes.

"I know, but it's like I haven't seen you in like, forever. I'm just checking up on you that's all" he said. Amy rolled her eyes and smiled. "Alright Matt, I miss you too, but you shouldn't have called me at work, I'm really busy, but don't worry, I'll call you when I'm—" Amy was talking when her line suddenly cut.

"Your call has exceeded one minute" her computer popped a message three times and stopped. Amy sighed and dropped her phone. This one-minute call rule is ridiculous. Why can't someone make a call for free in this damned company?

Then she remembered what the man showing her around when she came here first said "you cannot make a call for more than one minute so that unnecessary calls don't interrupt your productivity at work, and more importantly, you don't leak the secret of the company to outsiders".

Like that made sense.

If she had wanted to, she would have spilt the beans about the dirty workings of these companies, but she knew that it would cost her her head, so she stayed quiet.

She readjusted her hovering chair and stared at a profile that displayed a young boy and his information below. "I cannot believe they want to kill this beautiful kid. Psychopaths!" she thought with gritted teeth as she closed the window. She then took a paper and wrote something on it then wrapped it and put it at the base of her thigh.

This kid cannot die. She would have to warn his foster family about the scheme so that they would take him far away from their reach.

Amy knew that she would be killed if they ever found out about her plan, but she knew better. If they ever laid their hands on the chip, though she does not know what they were going to do with it, it would not be good.

For these people to have spent their resources to locate a mere kid, she knew they were planning on something big, but the only person that knew the grand plan was her manager and his son, that's all. The reason they kept it that way is so the plan doesn't get leaked outside.

Sometimes she regretted working here in the first place.
