At lunch Jeffrey joined a group of athletics kids playing basketball.
"Hey guys, mind if I join you guys in playing ball?", Jeffrey asked the group of 6th and 7th graders.
"Yeah sure!", a short kid named Andy Babcock accepted him.
One of the kids went into the bushes to pull out a pristine orange basketball with clean black painted lines still on it.
"Let's warm up with a game of horse", the leader of the group Zachary Taylor proposed to everyone.
"Ok, sure" someone mumbled agreeing with him.
Lining up at the free throw line some made it in the basket while others received and h.
Jeffrey waiting with a baited breath slowly inched forward in line. When it was his turn to shoot, he almost missed the backboard. He put too much power in his shot and his form was terrible.
"Man this kid sucks", Jeffrey could hear someone comment on his shooting form.
"Maybe he's better at passing", another kid offered.
After a few rounds they finished the game with Andy winning, Jeffrey returned to being a nobody on the court. He was just another kid in school you passed by with a backpack on his shoulder.
Then it came time to actually play a 4 on 4 game.
Picking teams the team captains slowly sorted out the good players from the bench warmers.
"I'll take Noah", Zachary Taylor got first pick.
"I'll choose Jet and Giancarlo then", Andy made his decision.
"I want Jackson", Zachary bounced the ball a few times.
"I'll have Jeffrey", Andy said to Zachary.
"Alright then, Quentin's on my team", Zach gathered his team and they prepared to jump the ball.
Jeffrey got in position and basically tried to mark one of the other players.
Suffice it to say, Jeffrey spent most of the game running around without even getting to touch the ball.
He felt happy when his team made a shot, and a little upset when the other team scored. However after his terrible shooting they didn't pass to him. So Jeffrey was relegated to dribbling and passing the ball.
Jeffrey took some small comfort in helping his team win, but he also knew he'd suck at basketball unless he took the time to practice.
"Thanks for playing guys", Andy went to get his backpack and head to class.
"yep, good game" most of the players got ready to leave as well.
Jeffrey started to leave as well. However at this moment, Quentin approached him.
"Hey Jeffrey, do you still have any of that perfume slime? My sister heard about it and she wants one", Quentin said to him.
Jeffrey was surprised at the sudden offer, but reaching into his backpack he produced a jar.
"I got one, but it's $20", Jeffrey informed him.
Quentin handed Jeffrey the money and ran off to class.
Jeffrey had a mix of emotions on his face, before putting it to the side and heading to class.
In his notebook ledger he started filling out the total number of Oobleck and slime he's sold for the second phase of his science project.
