Preston was eating with a few of his other friends, one of the kids was clearly asleep with his head on the table and a baseball cap covering his face. Two of the kids were talking, while Preston was busy eating a Smuckers peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
"Hey Preston, mind if I sit here", Jeffrey asked holding his food and backpack.
Preston had a bad feeling about it.
"Yeah, sure", Preston agreed reluctantly.
"Awesome thanks", Jeffrey said putting down his food and going for his backpack.
"Hey guys, did you hear about Preston and I's science fair project?", Jeffrey asked
They all looked at Jeffrey a little weirdly.
"Well Preston has a Glow-in-the-dark Green Oobleck in his hands. It works as a night light, a mini lava lamp, a desk cleaner, and helps pick up pencil and eraser shavings", Jeffrey advertised.
Preston reluctantly pulled out the jar while Jeffrey was talking.
"How much does it cost Preston", Preston's friend asked.
Jeffrey waited to see how Preston responded.
Preston under Jeffrey's stare said, "uh, it's $20."
"Oh ok, I have $20", Preston's friend said to him. Preston's friend's name was Jet
Jeffrey interrupted, "Preston didn't even tell you all it's cool features yet."
"It's fine, I heard about it from some of the other kids that bought it from you. I didn't know Preston had some as well", Jet said.
Jet handed Preston the $20 and Preston gave him the jar.
"Have fun, Jet", Jeffrey said.
Preston walked with Jeffrey.
"Not that difficult right?", Jeffrey asked.
"Yeah", Preston said thinking about what just happened.
"Dude, have more confidence in yourself. You're better than you think. There's a reason why I asked you to help me. You're not my only friend, but you're the friend I asked help from", Jeffrey said to Preston.
"Ok", Preston responded.
"What's with all the short answers man. I'm pouring out speeches by the earful and all you can say is...", Jeffrey continued on and on.
They shot some hoops ignoring the weird stares from the other kids, not just because of their reputation, but at just how bad they were at basketball.
Jeffrey and Preston didn't care, they were too busy having fun.
"Preston I need you to sell 3 more jars before next week. Can you do that?", Jeffrey asked.
Preston nodded.
"I hope to see you sell another one by tomorrow dude, you got this", Jeffrey encouraged him.
Preston shot another basket and Jeffrey fouled him hoping to stop the ball. The ball went in anyway.
"Preston, go a little easy on me man. This is not the NBA, don't be such a try hard and get all sweaty on me", Jeffrey remarked.
"It's not that I'm good, but you're just really bad. I am going easy on you", Preston said with a smirk.
"Whatever man", Jeffrey responded as they played a new round of horse.
"What was it that you said last time?", Preston asked
"Which one, don't complain about failing go and learn from you're mistakes?", Jeffrey asked honestly.
"No, I got rejected by a girl. Which one was it?", Preston teased.
Jeffrey had made an expressionless face at that question.
"Quite a few actually", he answered honestly.
"It's been a lot harder to sell perfume slime than glow-in-the-dark Oobleck. I'm not good with talking to girls", Jeffrey admitted.
Jeffrey threw the basketball, it hit the rim and bounced out. Preston grabbed the ball.
"I heard, Melissa and Jacqueline both refused", Preston mentioned.
"Give me 3 jars of you're perfume slime. Let me talk to them", Preston offered.
"You sure?", Jeffrey asked
"Positive", Preston responded.
Preston shot again and made another basket.
"Let's get back to class then", Jeffrey said.
They both grabbed their backpacks and headed to 5th period science class together.
