Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Badminton

"Point", Matthew called out.

Throwing the shuttlecock in the air, he served it across the net. His racket making a large swishing noise as he did so.

*Swish*

his opponent moved to where it would land. Samantha Watts spiked her return over the net, it rocketed toward the floor.

"Good game" Matthew said, losing match point.

"Good game", she responded shaking hands.

Elsewhere in the gym auditorium, similar badminton matches were being played.

Nikhil had drawn his match with Melissa, Gavin won again Michael, and Jeffrey was drinking water from the water fountain.

*slurp*

Jeffrey was enjoying the peaceful moment, a nice reprise from studying and classes. Grabbing a piece of paper he scribbled a note to Samantha.

While people were busy he approached her.

"Hey Samantha?", Jeffrey asked.

"Hey Jeffrey?", she said looking at him oddly.

Speaking quickly but quietly Jeffrey said, "I'm working on a project and I'm looking for some help. I know that you're really smart and I'd like your help in particular to just check over it. If you're interested we can meet up in Mrs. Crawford's classroom?"

Samantha was noticeably caught off guard.

"umm, I'll think about it", she told Jeffrey.

"Well, this might peak your interest", Jeffrey mentioned as he gave her a note.

Jeffrey felt it was best to give her some space and let things happen naturally. If Samantha wasn't interested then maybe he'd have to find another business strategist or put it off for the time being.

Jeffrey grabbed his backpack and finished the school day. P.E was the last class before school got out.

When the last school bell rang, Jeffrey was already halfway up the hill next to the school. Right after him were other kids waiting to be picked up.

Jeffrey started approaching and asking kids if they were interested in his science project. Jeffrey was rejected a total of 11 times, but he eventually was able to sell 1 jar of perfume slime for $20 to Harrison's little sister.

He saw Samantha walking up the hill toward him. He waved at her and being polite she waved back.

"Heading home soon?", Jeffrey asked making small talk.

"Yep, waiting for my ride", she responded.

The hill was full of cars waiting in line to park at the curb. The blue sky had a few puffy white clouds passing over head.

"You interested in the school science fair?", Jeffrey resumed posing new questions to continue a conversation.

"I haven't thought about it yet", Samantha said.

"Well, I'd like to work with you on this particular project. I'm hoping to do more than make just a simple presentation and win awards", Jeffrey explained some of his ambitions.

Samantha was still a little hesitant about talking to a classmate she barely knew offering to work with her on a project, but there was no real downside to it so she accepted.

"Ok, sure. I'll help you with the project", Samantha agreed to Jeffrey's proposal.

"Awesome, then I'll meet you at Mrs. Crawford's classroom during free period", Jeffrey said in excitement.

A yellow taxi cab pulled up to the curb.

"That's my ride", she said to Jeffrey.

Samantha got into the taxi and left. Seeing this Jeffrey went to the bike rack to unlock his electric scooter. Putting on a helmet and securing his backpack to the seat he started heading home as well.

As Jeffrey started driving home, his scooter traveling up the small hills, sidewalks, and neighborhoods he played BGM in his head.
