Staying in the science classroom, Jeffrey grabbed a whiteboard marker and started to list and draw a few things.
Jeffrey didn't really have a good way of organizing his thoughts and he couldn't reach some of the higher areas of the whiteboard. However, he just wrote down some important points on his project proposal.
Soon Preston walked inside the door with Samantha following behind him.
"Hey guys", Jeffrey said waving to them
"So what's this about?", Preston asked.
"Yeah, you asked us to meet up in room 205", Samantha said waiting for Jeffrey to respond.
"I've asked both of you to come and join my science project. We're a team after all and we should plan out what everyone is doing", Jeffrey explained.
"So currently I've been measuring the viscosity of this non-Newtonian liquid and just messing around a little with temperature. I think it's a good project that we could submit to the science fair."
"Ok, but why?", Samantha asked.
"It's different, it's unique, and it'll make for a good presentation to win an award", Jeffrey started to talk about all the benefits and possibilities.
Preston seeing this smiled and suddenly said, "You should tell Samantha the real reason why you want to pick this particular idea for a project."
Samantha looked at Jeffrey suspiciously.
"Uh...", Jeffrey coughed before continuing.
"If it was just a simple science project, I think we could all probably do our own. It's a little easier in a group, but there's a lot of coordination involved", Jeffrey explained.
Preston and Samantha nodded in agreement.
"However, I want to do something bigger rather than just present a cool idea", Jeffrey paused for a breath and continued speaking.
"Since, let's face it after you finish a science project you don't do anything with it", Jeffrey's hand gestures started to get bigger and more energetic.
"You spend weeks and weekends on research, gathering data, and then presenting it and nothing happens. You're pretty much just spending your free time studying and learning", Jeffrey talked to both of them directly
"I want to do something with it. Actually change the world! Even if it's just our little corner of it. Make something that our school, our neighborhood, our friends will see. So I came up with Oobleck", Jeffrey pulled out a jar from his backpack.
"If it was just a simple project, I could probably do it alone and so could you. However, if we want to think bigger and do more it's going to take more than just one person. I think we have all the people we need right here, in this room", Jeffrey looked at the two people he invited.
"So you guys want to work together on this Oobleck business?", Jeffrey's eyes sparkled.
Preston was already stuck aboard Jeffrey's pirate ship, he suffered a lot of rejections but eventually he sold 3 jars of perfume slime to the group of girls that rejected Jeffrey.
"For better or worse, I'm stuck with you", Preston said to Jeffrey.
"I don't know how I feel about this project of yours, but it sounds interesting", Samantha agreed.
"Awesome, let's talk about what we need to do", Jeffrey started to draw diagrams on the whiteboard.
"The science fair is in April, we have 4 months to prepare. We need a hypothesis, a conclusion and data. We also need to talk about how we're going to meet and work on this together."
Their planning session continued on for quite a while. Although Jeffrey had a lot of ideas, Samantha and Preston convinced him to take things more slowly.
Jeffrey introduced Samantha about selling their project to other kids. Preston rolled his eyes watching him talking about it. However, it was a pleasant first meeting.
When they walked out of the classroom, Jeffrey's science project had really began to take off. It's first three members working to make a simple piece of science into something that could change the world.
