Chereads / I Elevate All Heroes / Chapter 8 - Praying for survival

Chapter 8 - Praying for survival

The globin swung his dagger madly.

Swish! Swoosh!

'Right, left, up, down, each of its attacks are random and slow. Was my reaction speed this fast?'

Alan might've not been an expert in fighting, but he at least knows the goblin's movements were completely wrong.

Alan clenched his fist and swung it making an uppercut.

POW!

The goblin soon went flying as his head was explored by Alan's physical strength. His eyes widened. He didn't expect the goblin to be killed in a single hit.

"Woah…"

In addition to his strength, Alan smiles instinctively.

'Incredible. I only used a portion of my strength but this is remarkable.'

[You have killed a low Crude goblin.]

"Alright!"

Although Alan may have defeated just a goblin, he didn't let his victory get into his head. This was just the beginning after all. He looks at the goblin's corpse. Blood had splattered throughout his body. For some reason, he didn't feel nauseous from the sight of blood.

'I'm at least going to take this.'

He picks up a small blade, it might've not been the best but it was something he could use for now.

[Item: Goblin's Bronze Dagger]

Attack +3

While the weapon was in Alan's possession, he gave another look at the goblin. Above its head, there was the same letter he saw back at the penalty quest. The only difference was that the color was white.

"I guess its color means its difficulty?"

Red was the shark's color name tag. Does that mean the darker the color, the harder the difficulty of the monster is?

Soon three more goblins jumped from their hiding place from the shadows as they leaped toward Alan with their weapons in hand. Alan's eyes grew wide.

'A pack?!'

Their fierce eyes were as menacing as they were, and their rotten teeth were dirty more than anything. These creatures are truly inferior, but that won't stop Alan from defeating them.

Alan threw a hard punch at the closest goblin.

POW!!

As the first goblin explores Alan slashes the second goblin with the dagger, piercing its skull. As for the final goblin, Alan kicks its lower body which sends him flying, splattering its body into pieces. Truly terrifying strength…

'Just one kick…'

It was surprising of course. Although he may possess great strength, Alan knows these goblins are low ones. Of course, he knew just by looking at the white letters above their heads. He still shouldn't let his guard down easily.

[You have killed a 3-low Crude goblin.]

Tti-ring.

[Level up!]

"Hmm?"

***

"I leveled up." I quickly accessed my Status.

Indeed, my level has gone up. Not only that, but all my stats have gone up to a single point. It turns out that each time I level up, one point would be added for each stat. This is way better than doing Daily Quests! To think that leveling up, I get more attribute points as well! I'll be able to get stronger faster as well just by leveling up!

Now I get it, everything is starting to connect now. These past few events are not only related to video games, but some of the things also apply to them as well.

'Alright, let's review how much points I get in total.' I get 3 points from the quest rewards plus 6 more at once from leveling up once as well. Even so, I can't distribute those 6 points how I want to, but I think this is for the best. The growth for leveling is much more effective.

'However, I only killed four goblins, isn't this way too great for just one level up?' In video games, it would take at least a few more to level up, while I only took four monsters just to level up. I'm not exaggerating, I like the method, but it just wasn't normal for me, a player to level up so quickly.

This isn't what you would call a low-level player, my stats are already monstrous for a player like myself. Or is it?

Well, I'll put this aside for now. Right now I want to continue leveling up. There was still a whole path leading down the subway after all. After all, what could await me down there?

"Hm?" Before I start heading out, I soon catch a glimpse of something on the goblin's corpse. I reached into one of their bodies until one of the goblin's bodies emitted a small light. I reach out to it.

[You have picked up the 'Item: Goblin's Ear.']

[Item: Goblin's Ear]

Rarity: None

Type: Various

A goblin's ear which can be use to craft, be stored in Inventory, or be sold at the Store.

"There's crafting as well? But I didn't see a section for that through the System." Was it even designed in the beginning? Even so, the store was useful. I called out to this 'Store.'

"Open Store." Will there be options to choose from weapons to different items? Just the feeling is getting me all excited! Or maybe there could be a female manager running a store from those Sci-Fi stories.

But, what appeared before me was just a bunch of letters written in white with only two options. 'Buy' and 'Sell', of course.

"Oh… so no female NPC manager…" Was I disappointed? Why, of course. Well since it's just a basic store, I might as well treat it as a store then. To my curiosity, I selected 'Buy'.

[You can not make any purchases with your current level. ]

Damn. And I was quite curious as well about what they might have within the store. Maybe swords? Or shields? Maybe even an artifact. Curse you system. Anyhow, this is fine.

I shifted my gaze to the next option, 'Sell'. I didn't expect much from this, since this is where you sell things. I selected 'Sell.'

[Do you want to sell 'Item: Goblin's Ear'?]

"Yes." With the sounds of coins clinging in exchange, my Inventory appeared. At the top right of the display, a column saying 'Gold' could be seen with the number 5 appearing there.

"Oooh." Is this even real gold? Although if it were real would this still be worth it in real life? Well, in any case, I still want to get as much gold as possible. Who knows, I might get something good from the store when I level up some more.

'Now where are those three goblins I killed? Oh, wait…' I facepalm which I soon began to remember when three of the goblins explored into pieces from my strength. How stupid can I be!

I signed. Welp, there goes my gold. However, I turned around from a violet growling. The feeling of bitterness soon disappeared instantly.

"Grr…"

"Growl!!"

"Growl!!"

"Grr…"

"Growl!!"

I looked above their heads.

[Black Hollow Lykos.]

Well, would you look at that, wolves and their names are orange as well, oh boy this isn't good…

"Well, it doesn't matter. I'm still gonna slaughter all of you." I gave them a cold glare which they shuddered and were intimidated a bit.

I've made a choice. From this point, anything that comes in my way, I'm going to kill them without mercy. I promise I'm going to survive this place. This is the only way, even if it takes praying for myself.

***

[Level up!]

[You have killed a low Black Hollow Lykos.]

[Level up!]

[Level up!]

Just as Alan suspected, his level was rising more quickly than before. As he merely kept killing all the Lyrkos. As Alan is currently sitting on one of their corpses, he summons and pulls out the Medical Kit he received from one of the first boxes he got.

"Tch, if I would've known this happened I would have brought something that could at least make up for these injuries." Alan grumbled.

[Item: Medical Kit]

A medical kit is used for small or big injuries. Not able to recover deep wounds. Can be stored inside your inventory.

He opens the Medical Kit and finds himself with three crepe-rolled bandages, tweezers, at least 2 sterile eye dressings, and some plasters. Right now what he needs is a crepe-rolled bandage and some plasters.

Alan takes one of the crepe-rolled bandages and begins to wrap a wound on his right thigh. On his thigh there seems to be blood dripping from being bitten by one of the Lyrkos.

"Careful… carefully… there. Even though it's bleeding a bit, this should do the job for now."

He then gets some small plasters and places one of his left cheek where there's a small cut while the other on his left hand.

"Alright, there we go." Alan sighed in relief. He's been leveling up quickly and not only that, but he has also now reached level 8. In other words, he jumped 6 times.

"Grr….."

Alan then spots one more Lykos. While it was busy growling at Alan, he gave the Lykos a chilling look. The Black Lykos shuddered in fear and began to flee from Alan, however, Alan didn't let that slide. He summoned his dagger and threw it full force, piercing through the Lykos from behind.

[You have leveled up!]

His level has risen up again.

After he killed the remaining Lrykos, Alan signed dejected

"D*mn it. That was my only weapon. It still had some use in it but now it's broken, don't tell me I have to fight bare-handed now…"

However, the gloomy sight changed into curiosity as soon as a message popped in front of his gaze.

Tti-ring.

[You have earned the 'Title: Wolf Slayer'.]

"Oh? A title, now that's convenient."

Alan takes a look at the new given title.

[Title: Wolf Slayer]

This title has been given to those who excel in hunting wolves. All your abilities will now increase by 40% when facing beast-type monsters.

"Beast-type monsters? So you're telling me there are more types of monsters as well? And here I thought this dungeon included only one type of monster. Also shouldn't it be 'Lykos Slayer' instead? I guess they're similar in their way but I'm more concerned about the title. Let me check on my status."

When Alan opened his Window Stat, sure enough, the 'title' column had been updated.

Name: Alan Walker

Class: None

'Increase in all abilities by 40%. I don't know how much the effects apply towards all, it's still pretty amazing I got this.'

In any case, this could help him kill any type of beast way faster, however, how would he do that shortly in the near future?

'I don't have any weapons, all I have are my two hands and legs, does that mean I have to learn hand-to-hand combat? Man I knew I should've taken those classes back then. Now I'm regretting it.' Alan says regretfully. 'Anyways, I wonder how much stuff I got from those wolves and goblins.'

Alan opens his inventory and reviews carefully through it.

'37 fangs from Lykos, 5 goblin ears, and 1 return runestone– what wait?' Alan rubs his eyes multiple times to see if what he'd received was real. "How did I get a runestone? I don't recall receiving this. I thought this place was filled with only low-level monsters?"

That's right, the place where Alan has been fighting is indeed filled with low monsters. However, that doesn't explain the fact that he's gotten a runestone. Was there a higher monster roaming here that could've dropped this item?

Alan then starts spectating around the wolf's corpse. If there's a high-ranking monster here, then that means bad news. That's when he saw an unexpected sight.

"Isn't that the wolf that had bitten me on my thigh?"

Above one of the wolves heads, their name was orange however that wasn't the issue.

[Intermediate Red-Hollow Lykos]

'Intermediate?! Then does that mean there's a higher level here!?'

Alan couldn't believe it. At first, this dungeon seemed to be a low-rank dungeon, however, that wasn't it. No, in the first place, does this place even be considered an E-rank Dungeon? Does that mean they'll be a stronger version of monsters, then the boss…

"God d*mmint it. And I thought this place was going to be easy…"

Alan clenched his fists. This was it, it seems that he has no other choice but to leave, or will he?

"No, I'm overthinking things." He shook his head. "A boss is a boss which means it's the final monster within the dungeon. There can't be a low boss, then an intermediate, and continuing. That just doesn't make any sense."

While Alan was skeptical of his theories, he then spots something glowing far in front of him.

'What the?'

Curiosity got the best of him as he sat up from the corpse and began to walk towards the bright light. With each step he took, his footsteps echoed throughout the subway.

As he had gotten close to the bright light, the light slowly started to fade away and revealed a brown chest. It was nothing special to be exact, it was a regular chest that you would sometimes see in games.

'A chest?'

Once he was close enough, the chest soon burst open. Alan takes a step back ready to fight. However, once the chest is revealed something has left Alan stunned.

"Are those items?"

Upon the chest opening, there seemed to be three holograms of items floating in the air.

[Item: You do not possess the requirements for this item.]

[Item: LongSteel Sword]

[Item: 500 Gold Coins]

'Sweet! I finally have a weapon to continue on, and it's a sword as well! And 500 gold coins, not bad. Then there's that mysterious item with no description on it whatsoever. Just what is it?'

Alan couldn't hold back anymore, he wanted to know what this strange item was. Was it some type of godly artifact? A legendary weapon perhaps, attribute points at least maybe? Or possibly something even more?

'Curse you system!'

He sighed, he claimed the items and stuffed them into his inventory except for the sword of course. He then went off and sold all the items he killed from the wolves and goblins leaving the runestone.

After he sold them all, he earned over 700 coins.

[Current Gold: 1205]

'Over a thousand gold… too bad I can't spend it on them. At least not yet. I wonder what's next down there though…'

He turns his head and glances down the subway stair leading to the next level of the dungeon. The abnormal pressure that even Alan senses is dangerous. After leveling up quite a while, he knew his perception had increased.

'Well… there's no turning back now. Let's see how this will proceed…'
