On a cold night, in the bright streets filled with the jovial mood all around, to welcome a new millennial, here were a couple, a boy and girl, straying away from the lights, ever so slightly, in search of the voices that whispered in our ears, through the letter addressing us.
I wasn't completely able to shake off Violet's suspicions but even she knows at the end of the day, she just can't barge her way through someone's privacy. But I did come here for two reasons. The first was to see through the origins of this letter, and what it had to do with us.
"You seem to be lost in your thoughts again, as usual."
"Well, is that so? Then you have my dearest of apologies, Miss. Emma...Aaaaaa..." Emily clearly didn't like me addressing her as a stranger. It just makes her feel anxious, as though I don't like her, or I might just cast her aside if I ever felt her like an inconvenience. Though, she never said that. So, it's fair to say it's just a hypothesis, for now, that is.
"It's Emily...E-M-I-L-Y, EMILY!" She glanced at me which gave me the vibe as though she would kill me for certain if I were to choose otherwise.
"Hmm...you're quite self-conscious, aren't you. It's just a name."
"A name that I hate."
"And yet, I haven't seen anyone in our campus addressing you with that name."
"That's because it's only the people closest to me would address me like that."
"Well, that explains a lot. Anyway, I don't understand how it's right for me to address you so casually. I haven't even earned the right, as I've barely been of any use to you."
"That's there but that's also because you're an exception." She locked her hands by intertwining her fingers with each other at the back, lifted one of her legs while turning back towards me and smiling. "It's because you are my junior, and also my personal knight!" She returned back to her usual stance and made a peace sign, still smiling.
"You know, it's only at times like this when someone like you enjoys in such a grand fashion that we are in store for a big trouble."
"Hmph!" She pouted. Man, she looks cute. She reminds me of Pikachu! "You're just a party pooper!" She pulled her eyelid down, and put her tongue out, teasing me. This was the norm now, for the both of us when no one was around us. "Pika-chu!"
This woman, not only was she teasing me but she was even reading my mind and attacking me on all fronts. Gaaagh! I want to hear more of it. But if I do, it means I'm succumbing to a weakness that I never knew existed within me.
"Pika-pi!"
"Alright! I get it, now stop."
"You're actually quite funny when you're messed around with."
"Well, I'll let you know that only you have the privilege to see this side of me."
"Oh my, I'm quite humbled when you put it in that way. Though in reality, you're just saying that because you truly have no one to share this side to."
"Well, that's there."
"Apart from..." She looked a little lost and nervous. "Unless...AXEL!" She suddenly let out a shriek that caught me off-guard, and not just me, but everyone else around me too. "Hey, you're going too fast! I'll lose sight of you!"
"That's your problem. I won't compensate for your lethargic movements whatsoever!"
"Haah! That's harsh! You're mean, and a cold-hearted guy!" This girl was piercing arrows where it hurt the most. The crowd looked at her with pitiful eyes, and turned towards me, as though I was some piece of trash just lying there. Hey, excuse me, could you not just make the whole world hate me, please? Oh, the narrator of this story, please help me!
"Well, especially since...Since you're boyfriend! You're supposed to take my hand, and keep me close to you at all times!" Curse you narrator! What the...She won over the crowd just like that. Oh no, they're looking at me. They're definitely looking at me eagerly now. Could you not just watch me like that? Ugh! "Will you?"
"Fine! I guess I got too ahead of myself!" I offered her my hand. The crowd looked ecstatic. So did she. Why can't we just stick to the main story for once? The tears flowing inside me were real.
She suddenly clung to my arm. Oi! The crowd let out a roar of triumph. Waves of "Yay!" and "Congrats" were showered onto us. I was starting to feel like we were skipping a lot of steps here. And looks like my partner read onto those vividly clear imaginations of mine. So much so that her face turned beet red.
"Let's get o...out of here!" She struggled to finish her words. I nodded and we slowly strolled away. But she was walking way slower than usual. Did the crowd get to her?
"Ugh! I think I did it. I can't walk fast!"
"You're a real troublemaker, you know?"
"Hey!...HEEEEYYYY!" Before she could comprehend and complain about what was going on, I stopped in front of her, with my back facing her, and then suddenly slid my hands through her thighs.
I took her in a piggyback position and stormed my way out there. Surprisingly, she had some presence. I felt a sharp pain near my rib. "Hey, could you stop that?"
"You ought to be a little more sensitive about stuff like that, you know!"
"About what? Your weight, or my hands sliding through your thighs, or about those images?"
"All of them!"
Whoever said falling in love was the best thing, and finding the right person to be with to do so, I don't even know how you enjoy stuff like that?
"Well, wouldn't it be better if you don't read my thoughts all the time?" She was quiet for a while, before she broke out the silence.
"STOP! WE'RE HERE!"
