Desperately grasping for breath, while laying down on the floor, covered in a pool of blood that was seeping out through his slit throat, the spider barbarian was living his last moments, while looking at me with all the emotions that signified that he wanted to end me, even if it costed everything that he had left with him.
I've never been a fan of revenge. A feeling that seeks out everything from the one that is controlled by it, until they attain a state of emptiness once they've finally achieved their goal, and destroyed whatever that was set in their path. Even now, the fact that this barbarian felt that towards me disgusted me even more.
"You know, I said let's talk but to be honest it's just going to be more of a lecture to you since when all is said and done, you'd just perish without putting up a fight or rebutting my ideologies or philosophies. I'm not much of a fan of violence. I don't wish to be here more than you do. If possible, I'd like to go back in time and alter the timeline where it would be as if all you mythical races would just take the form of a human and would strive hard to be like us, and understand life from our own perspective."
This wasn't just a roll of a tongue speech. I was absolutely honest when I said this. I meant all of it. Every single word of it. There are times, times where I would imagine what would such a world be, a world where Emily would've been my girlfriend. A vampire girlfriend, that too. Sounds like a story from a kid's drama, right? But that was just something I wished for. Since I wasn't courageous enough to keep on moving with this world and stick to the very end till my allocated time in this wretched place runs out.
"You think we're the bad guys, and resent us with everything you've got. And I honestly agree with all of those claims. We're not the race that should seek any mercy from the likes of you. But that's that. As much as I agree with you on the whole philosophy of getting back at us, what I don't accept is the fact that you guys cling onto that part of the history, which in your lifespan is just a thousand years, and meanwhile, in ours, it's over eons, and lead your current life trying to avenge us and seek justice for your dead ancestors."
Well, it certainly did look like I was choosing a side. As much as I claimed myself to be an impartial person when the time would come for me to choose a side, I guess at the end of the day, I had more to think and decide and stand for than I had initially assumed. So much for acting like a pragmatic hero, eh?
"No one cares about your vengeance. Certainly not this race that just leads its life upon seeking and securing a better future for themselves even if it's at the expense of their loved ones or the ones that consider them friends, colleagues, lovers, or even allies. I doubt anyone would even spare a moment of their time, time that is necessary and influential which ultimately decides their standing in this system, to your flawed life."
You can't forsake to inhabit your present time while still holding on and lingering to the past. You had to accept it, and move on. However painful it may be, and how unjust life may have been towards you. You had to keep moving on. If not for you, at least for the sake of the people that have paved the way for you to walk upon. You had to make their sacrifice justifiable. Else, their life would have amounted to nothing.
"You may be thinking that this is nonsense, and I'm spewing all of this only with the intention of making you sick and feel miserable, so that would lash out your hidden rage, which would just accelerate your death, making it easy for me without having to kill a helpless beast. You aren't wrong, if that thought ever crossed your head, since I'm not a good person by any means whatsoever. But I will say this."
Rotating the sword in my hand, I caught the handle, and with both my hands, I drove the blade through his chest, piercing his heart, and ending his life, this time, for good.
"I do hope that you shall find peace, in whatever form it may be, and I hope that you shall never fall back onto the cycle of reincarnation, as it's a cursed and fateful lie. Good bye, and sleep well, for all eternity."
