Chapter 50 - 5.5 : CROSS PATHS!

Standing over the corpses that bowed down to my blade and perished on the ground, I just lay there silent for a while. A few moments later, a group of shadows approached me. I didn't bother to check who they were, as I was still lost in the afterthoughts I had left within me, after what just happened.

Emily stood there, along with Blake, and some of the members of the bar. She seemed to be concerned about me, but I just walked past her while still holding onto the sword showered with the scarlet viscous liquid on it. I slid my hand through the sword and wiped the blood away. I just put the sword away and checked the corpses on the floor. I analyzed the corpses, and after being satisfied that it fulfilled my theory and gave me an insight into the stuff I was curious about, I stepped away from them.

"Where are you going? What happened here?" Ms. Emma reached out to me. I didn't heed her questions. I just looked at her, and our eyes met. I then pointed towards the corpses and spoke to her telepathically.

"You can see with your own eyes. Why even bother asking about it to me?"

"Because this is unlike you. I've never seen you act like this. Going rogue and ending up with a killing spree. You're just different now. I can barely recognize you anymore."

"Well, I think that's a good thing. Since I know have the element of surprise."

"Element of surprise? I don't understand what you mean."

"Now picture this. For the past 10 months, there are many rumors circulating about us. About what kind of person you and I are. And from what I've seen, we don't have much good stuff ringing for us. We have already been written off. And I don't think that's a good thing. Especially when you're throwing your hat on the seat and are supposedly declaring yourself as the heir to the throne."

She looked at me as though she was lost, and I decided to elaborate further before she would lose it completely. "In hindsight, you need to earn merit if you want to even bid and challenge for something that's rightfully yours. But sadly, society isn't kind enough to offer you an olive branch because you share something with a former figure of high stature. It doesn't matter if the figure is only a part of everyone's memory and can't dictate any power whatsoever."

"So, what is that you're trying to say?"

"It's high time we change who we are. And embrace the critics by taking in their insight they have placed on us, and just proceed with an air of surprise and mystery, so that we can never be written off, and be evaluated with an air of caution."

"And you're trying to justify what you've done just now with that excuse. You've really stooped down so low, that it actually disgusts me. I thought you were better than this!" She was furious with the path I had chosen without consulting her and doing stuff on my own. It seemed to have hurt her.

I pulled her by her arm and pushed her towards the wall in a rough manner. She did seem to be hurt by a bit. I caught her by her chin and looked at her with an unpleasant look on my face. At least I hope that's how it is. "Look, I have my reasons to do the things I've done. It doesn't mean I have no feelings or that I don't reflect on this stuff whatsoever. Just so you know, sometimes your hands are forced and all you can do is hope that there is a place for you in hell and that even it doesn't abandon you for the atrocious crimes you've pulled."

"Is that what you tell yourself when you got to sleep every day?"

"If you have an issue with me slaying a few demons because I was doing my job rightfully, then I think it's high time that you slay me, free me from this pact, and choose someone worthy who'd follow along with your ideas and be loyal to you until the very end."

"At the end, you can't even stick up for yourself that you just leave the decision to me."

"That's because you don't give me the benefit of the doubt!"

"How am I supposed to give you the benefit of doubt when you're the one I'm doubting?! Honestly, I don't know what's up with you anymore, and now you're causing anarchy over anarchy, leaving behind a trail of blood!"

"So, I'm still not someone who you can fully trust with your back to me?"

"Sadly, no!"

A continuous set of light set the sky bright with everyone wishing and cheering from the crowd far away from us. The dawn of a new millennial set upon us. And with a nod, I bid my farewell, and walked past her.
