"THE BIG BEN?!", She let out a shreik, capturing the eyes of the fellow travellers on board. Realising what she had done, she just bent down her haid in shame. The other passengers turned back to mind their own business. From the looks of it, she wanted to know about in great detail, but sadly with what she just pulled out, she was in no position to do so.
Usually, I wouldn't mind. But this time, things were different. Since this was Violet I'm talking about. Yes, her name's Violet. I didn't want to make it as such that I knew her because that would label me as her acquaintance. Not that it was something ominous. It's just once we were of that level, she would start prying into my life unnecessarily. I just to make sure that she didn't dig too deep and try to invite unwanted trouble into her lavish yet glamorous life.
I put my palm on her hand. She looked at me as though I did something outrageous. Not to mention in broad daylight, with a reputation such as one I had, here I was, holding a girl's hand. Yeah, I'm quite the foolish one. But that nothing to do with this. I already looked around, and there was no one from our college, and most of the passengers weren't from this city. So, it was safe for me to do what I did.
I whispered into her ear. "You don't have a boyfriend, do you?" Asking a maiden of her stature such a outrageous question out of the blue was indeed bad manners, but that is what to be expected of me. She looked at me with a "Excuse me?!" look on her face. I raised my evebrow indicating I meant what I had just asked, and she just kept quiet. I carried on.
"Look, just play through with it. Right now, there's very few people on board who know about me. So it shoudln't be an issue to you. I know you're curious about why I'm suddenly going there tonight, and you're dying to ask, but because of what you did earlier, you can't." I just have her the facts straight ti her face, which she couldn't rebuke whatsoever.
"So, with that reason, you intend to feign compassion on this maiden and steal her heart?"
"Well, if it were so simple then I would assume that we would be an actual couple by now."
"That's true. There's not a single man out there that just took me by storm and made me crave for more. Didn't then, and it won't now."
"Not that I'm gunning for it in the first place."
"Then, what is this for?" She lifted her hand, which was firmly held by my palm. "Care to enlighten me how this is anything but trying to seek my attention?"
"Ah that, it's just a way for me to have you indebted towards me. Because I'm outright giving you the information without any tricks, I shall have you owe me a favor. Underhanded? Yes! Do I feel any guilt or shame? Absolutrely not."
"Ugh! Fine, I get it. So, what's the deal with you? Why are you suddenly heading out all the way out there?" She whispered into my ear, making sure that she doesn't capture any more attention than already needed.
I diligently replied back to her in a courtaceous manner. "I have some business to take care of, and the other one's a personal matter." She didn't look like she was buying it whatsoever. Even so, I couldn't give her any information when I had no clue myself why I was going there.
I was having the time of my life, being a recluse, and having to stick at home with ease, when all of a sudden I had my bell rung. This was a couple of days ago. Just when half of the town disappeared in the pretense of the holiday season. I had no immediate family to visit. As such, I allowed myself to lay around and doze off, all while doing the essential chores namely cooking, training, maintaining the cleanliness and ascsthetics of the place I lived in.
And while repeating the same task as every other day, there was a sudden knock on my doorbell, followed by the chime of the doorbell. I looked through the door, (Yeah! That's a skill I acquired. Questionable, at most!). There seemed to be a man holding a letter. I soon confirmed it was the mailman, and opened the door.
"Sorry, my bad! I was busy setting up some stuff. Hope I didn't bother you." Lately, I've been more open and expressive. At least, on the outside. I could only do this outside of campus. The mailman on the other hand looked like he wasn't bothered whatsoever. He handed me the letter, and walked away.
Was I little too aggressive? Well, whatever. I took the letter, and turned it around. There was nothing mentioned on the envelope. And so, as any curious person would do, I just opened it up to check the contents myself, when I was met with an empty sheet of paper. "Is this a joke?" The first thought that ran through my head. I had considered it for a few seconds before scrapping that out.
Thankfully due to a certain individuals ability to just barge in when there was an opening. "Did you receive it too?"
"The empty piece of paper, you mean? Yes!"
"So you haven't check it yet?"
"Check what?"
"Is there a lighter with you?"
"No!"
"Alright, take it to your nearest fireplace." A fireplace. I was living in a pesky affordable apartment that all of those stuff were just considered a luxury. I knew I had to improvise. I just used the stove I had and light it up.
"Yeah, now what."
"Place the paper on the fireplace."
"Are you insane? You just want me to get kicked out of here, don't you?"
"Just do as I say..."
And that's how I ended up here. You could probably take a guess of what happened. And for what was to happen, no one knows.
