"-ayashi. Hayashi!" A voice pulled her from her thoughts. "Huh? What's up?" "Geez, stuck in your mind again? You never seem to leave that place, wherever it takes you." The voice chuckled and she rolled her eyes. "Shut up. I was just thinking about something.." "Yeah well, you're supposed to be thinking about what we're currently doing which is patrolling." "It seems like that's all we've been doing." "Yeah well, being a hero isn't always about fighting villains, but also making sure nothing goes wrong and to always be on our toes. Remember what Aizawa told us back at UA-" "Of course I remember what he told us, I was in the same class with you, Hanta. Gods, I swear you always have to say something. And for the record, we're sidekicks for now." He let out a laugh before resting his arm on her head. "I'm only messing around. This patrol is boring so I want to rile you up a little." "Well stop, it's becoming annoying." "Come on Hayashi, at least smile a little." Kurmara let out an irritated sigh as she shook his arm off her head and walked ahead, him following behind. "Okay okay, I'll stop trying to piss you off." "I swear.." "You swear what, Hayashi?"
She could hear the teasing was still in his voice. She knew him very well and knew he wasn't going to stop messing with her even if she asked. "You're still doing it, Hanta. And stop calling me Hayashi." "Why? That's your last name isn't it?" "It is, but no one really calls me by my last name unless it was a teacher or the old man at the fabric store." "And me, of course." "No, not you. This is weird for me to say but I hate hearing my last name now." Sero laughed and Kurmara huffed as she shook her head. "I hate when they pair us together for patrols.." "Aww, why is that? You don't like having your childhood friend with you?" "Gods no. Especially when you do this every time we're together.. it drives me nuts. I'd rather be paired with Bakugou." "That hot-head? You're hurting my feelings, Hayashi." "I told you to stop calling me by my last name. We have to check this alley before heading back to meet with the others to give our reports." She voiced as she walked down the alley with her partner and friend following behind. "Okay, but why was Bakugou the first one you thought of when you said you'd rather be paired with other than of me?" The hero asked the other who shrugged.
"I don't know, but I do know that he wouldn't be this annoying while we were on patrol. He'd probably yell at me to hurry up if he went ahead of me, like usual, but I can handle that." She responded and Sero was soon in front of her, walking backwards with a shit-eating grin on his face. "What now?" "You thought of him when there are others you could've said." "What's your point?" "You're harboring something for him, aren't you?" He questioned and Kurmara glared at him. "I'm going to ignore you now." She voiced as she used her wind Quirk to get above and in front of him, walking further ahead not missing his laugh sounding behind her. "You not denying it only makes it seem like it's true." "Well I can't give you a serious answer or talk to you seriously at all right now because of the way you're-" She interrupted herself when there was a crash nearby. She looked back at Sero who nodded before the two of them walked towards where the crash came from which led them to a building that was rundown. It had trash, graffiti, and rubble all around. The two looked at each other before they carefully walked further into the building, heading towards a room.
"It could've just been an animal knocking some-" "Well, look at what we have here. Two heroes in a place they shouldn't be sticking their noses." A voice sounded and they turned to see a figure standing in the doorway. "Identify yourself and your business in this restricted building." Kurmara voiced towards them, keeping her guard up. "You two are also in this restricted building." The figure retorted. "We're on patrol when we heard a crash. Did you cause that? You know vandalism is a felony." Sero told them. The figure walked towards them, revealing that it was a man who looked to be in his late thirties. "Look around you, this place is a shit hole. A shit hole that I have to live in." He told them and the two heroes looked at one another before back at the man. "Sir, if you could come with us out of the building-" "I'm talking!" He shouted, interrupting Kurmara. "I don't give a damn if you two are heroes, you're both going to listen to what I have to say!" "He's drunk." Kurmara breathed to Sero who nodded. "We know how to deal with drunkards, but we still have to be careful as we don't know what his Quirk could be."
"Of course." "-you heroes caused that, you know. Most people are homeless because of the destruction you cause. And you're supposed to help us?! You're nothing but a bunch of frauds!" The man shouted and Kurmara saw something shine. "Look out!" Sero grabbed her arm and pulled her to the side when he threw something towards them, broken pieces flew past them, looking like shards of glass. "You don't help people, you just end up ruining things!" The drunk man shouted as he threw more shards towards them and the two jumped away from each other. One of the shards managed to hit Kurmara on her arm and she hissed as she felt burning, holding her arm. "I will end you both as a warning!" "Shut up already." Sero voiced as he used his Quirk to wrap the man up just as he threw shards towards him. But just before any managed to hit him, Kurmara used one of her Quirks to blow them away from him, hearing them hit against the wall. There was a thud and the sound of struggling as Kurmara walked over to where Sero was and saw that he had the drunk wrapped up in his tape.
"Co.. come on, I wasn't that serious! L.. lemme go!" He protested as he struggled on the ground. "Threatening and attacking heroes lands you in jail, sir," Kurmara told him as she contacted the police. "Especially if you managed to successfully injure one of them." "You got hit by whatever the hell he threw at us?" Sero questioned as he stood the guy up and she walked out of the room with him following, walking the guy with them. "Yeah. It hurts and feels like I'm being burned." She responded as she used her water Quirk on the wounded area to try and alleviate the burning which helped a little. "Are those shards poisonous?" Sero asked and the man shook his head. "No. It's.. it's a part of my Quirk. They look like.. glass but once.. once they make contact with skin, it leaves a burning feeling as if you're actually being burned with fire.." He responded and Kurmara let out a silent sigh of irritation as they walked out of the dilapidated building and out into the alleyway. "How long does it last?" She queried as they walked out of the alley, sitting the thug onto the sidewalk as they heard sirens faintly nearby.
"A couple of ho-" "How many?" Sero interrupted. "Like three to four hours." He quickly responded and Kurmara shook her head as she looked at the wounded area on her arm before putting her hand back over it. "Please tell me I'm not in too much trouble." "Well, you threatened and attacked two heroes who were on patrol and you managed to hurt one of them. You committed a crime so you're going to be arrested." Sero voiced as the sirens got closer. "No, please! I can't go to jail! I'm trying to be a better person, this will ruin it!" The restrained man exclaimed. "Yeah well, if you were trying to be a better person, you wouldn't have acted the way you did." Kurmara voiced as she looked down at him, her brows raising when she saw he was crying. "Please... I didn't mean anything by what I said... I really am trying to be.. better." He sobbed and Kurmara looked towards Sero before letting out a sigh. A police car parked near the three of them and two officers stepped out of the car. "Thank you both. What should the charges be?" One of them asked as the other walked the man to the back of the cruiser and Kurmara looked at Sero again who gave her a nod.
"He seemed to be drunk when we found him in the building. He said a few threatening things towards us but we managed to restrain him before he got violent." The woman voiced as she looked towards the man in the back of the car. "Is that all?" The police officer asked and she nodded. "He might've vandalized something in there, but we ran into him before we were able to find out where and what it was," Sero added and the officer nodded. "Alright. We'll take him down to the station and get it all sorted out. Thank you both." "Always happy to help." Kurmara gave a smile before looking at the man who mouthed a 'thank you' before the police car drove off. The two watched the car drive out of view before the short woman let out a small sigh. "Come on, let's go meet with the others and give our patrolling report." She voiced as she began to walk in the opposite direction the police car drove away from. "Do you think he actually was trying to better himself?" Sero asked. "Possibly. He seemed like he was at least but was probably a little drunk. I just hope the next time we see him he isn't shouting at us upset." Kurmara voiced as they continued to walk down the street.
The sun was setting lower in the sky which made the sky a pinkish-orange, casting shadows across the city as well. As they continued to walk to the meeting area, Kurmara's phone chimed and she looked to see a notification from Kamie.
Hope you're not injured again tonight! I have something to tell you once you're home!
Kurmara shook her head, smiling as she responded.
nothing but minor injuries here, dw <3
She put her phone back in her pocket, feeling Sero's eyes on her. "Don't say anything because you're going to be wrong." She voiced before he could say a word. "Come on, I just wanted to ask who it was." "Yeah, but you would ask if it was someone important." "Well, was it?" He asked and she nodded. "It was my roommate." "You mean the woman who is taller than you by like two feet?" He queried which made her roll her eyes. "Everyone seems to be taller than me, but yes, the one who is literally two feet taller than me that I share a house with." She responded and he nodded. "Alright. See, I wasn't going to say anything else." "Yeah, but you were thinking it." She responded with a small smile and he chuckled. "You're not wrong, I was thinking it." "I knew it." "Hey, you guys!" They looked towards the fountain that indicated they were at the meeting place everyone agreed on, seeing one of their friends, who was also a hero alongside them, waving at the two and they walked over to them. "Heyoo." Kurmara greeted them with a smile. "You two aren't last to meet here."
"Yeah, that's because I'm with him and not-" "We're here! Don't leave without us!" A voice interrupted behind her and they turned to see two more of their friends show up. "You're here before them because you don't have the lightning rod." "Lightning rod-" Sero snickered at the nickname for Kaminari. "Hey guys, why is he laughing? Did I miss something?" "No, not really." Mina voiced, giggling with Kurmara which only made the electric hero confused. "Wait, it was something funny! Tell me what it was!" "You shouldn't know," Jiro said, stifling her giggle. "You guys are still so mean!" Kaminari fussed which made the group laugh a little. "Whatever, I don't wanna know anymore." "Then let's head back to give our reports." Jiro voiced and everyone agreed as they headed back to the agency they were at before they had headed out on patrols earlier that day. "Oh hey, that reminds me, Kurmara," Kaminari walked beside the short woman who looked up at him. "What's up?" "Will you come out with us tonight?" He asked with a smile but she shook her head, causing his smile to fade. "Why not? You never come out with us! We always ask but you always say no and head home every night!"
"That's because I just want to go home." She responded. "Can't you just hang with us just one night?" He queried. Just before she got a chance to speak again, Mina spoke up. "He's right you know. Ever since we've become heroes, you never come with us anymore." "You did one time then never did again," Sero added. They had a point, they really did. Kurmara had been friends with them since they attended UA and always hung out with them when she had the chance or whenever they asked. The one time they all were together was when they celebrated the night they became heroes but after that, she never tagged along anymore. She missed it and she missed them. They all worked together but it wasn't the same. Kurmara breathed in before letting out a little sigh. "You're right." She voiced, Sero and Kaminari looking at her. "So you'll come along tonight??" "Yeah. It'll be fun to hang out with you- guys!" She voiced, letting out a small squeak as she was lifted into the air and spun around by Sero who laughed. "Finally! We've been waiting for you to say you would!" He voiced as he hugged her which made her laugh. "Alright, alright! Let me down now." She giggled as he set her down and they continued to walk.
"By the way, how did your guys' patrol go?" Mina asked. "Nothing too exciting, just a drunk guy who was upset about something heroes did." Kurmara voiced with a shrug and Sero nodded. "Yeah. He did attack us though." Everyone stopped walking and turned towards them. "What?" "Did you get the bastard at least?" "Did he get any of you guys?" "Oh yeah, he managed to get Kurmara with his Quirk." Sero voiced which made her punch his arm. "Whaaat?!" "Are you okay?!" "See what you did?" She groaned and continued to walk towards the agency. "Wait, are you okay though?" Mina queried as she stopped the blonde and brown-haired woman who sighed heavily. "Yes. Aside from this," she lifted her arm to show them the gash caused by the shards. "I'm fine. It doesn't even burn anymore but I feel like I still need to wrap it." She commented, examining her arm to determine if she needed it to be stitched up. "What do you mean it doesn't burn anymore?" Denki queried. "The guy who attacked us said that his Quirk looked like glass, and it did, but once it touches your skin, it feels like fire is being burned on you," Sero said, earning a glare from Kurmara and he shrugged.
"Did you get hit with his Quirk?" Jiro asked him but he shook his head. "Nope. I give my thanks to miss multi-Quirk for that." "I only did that because you were going to be hit by multiple shards, not just one." "You still saved me from getting super injured." "Whatever. Can we continue going inside? I thought you guys wanted me to come out tonight?" She smiled at them as she walked ahead. "Hey wait! Of course we want you to come with us!" Kaminari voiced as he followed after her, everyone doing the same.
* * *
"Kurmara, you coming or not?" Sero queried and the short woman nodded. "Yeah! Gimme a second." She responded and he shrugged before turning around. She closed and locked her locker before walking to meet the others, sending a message to Kamie.
hey, I'm going to be out late tonight bc I'm with everyone.
I'll talk to you tomorrow
She hit send before sliding her phone into her back pocket. "Iida said he wouldn't be able to come with us tonight. Same with Deku." Mina told them which made Denki sigh. "Aw, man. I can understand Iida, but Midoriya as well?" "Yeah, he said that he had things to do still at the agency, so he won't be able to come. Next time he said." "At least we have miss multi-Quirk with us." Kaminari voiced as he wrapped his arm around Kurmara's shoulders, making her roll her eyes and push him away. "I hate when you call me that." She told him as the six of them walked out of the building. "But it's so fitting for you!" "More like insulting." She whispered to Mina and Jiro who laughed. "Why are you guys always laughing? I want to hear the joke too!" "No. Now, where are we going? To that one place we went to the night we celebrated our becoming heroes?" Kurmara queried but they shook their heads. "Nope, we have this better place we go to now. It's really good." "Yeah, they have a bar, plenty of music, food, and hella dancing! You'll like it." Sero added as he danced a little, bumping Kurmara a who gave a small smile and rolled her eyes. "Alright, then let's go."
"If you were hoping it'd be just the six of us, you can think again." Bakugou voiced as he walked to his car. "What do you mean?" "I think he means a few others will join us." "No shit. What else could I have meant?" Kurmara shook her head and suppressed the scoff. Good to know he's still kind of an ass. She thought as she smiled to herself. "Kurmara, you're riding with me and Mina while Jiro and Denki ride with Bakugou." Sero said towards her and she nodded as she followed the two towards Mina's car. "Did you get a new car Min? This looks different from the other one you had." Kurmara asked as she looked at the car. "Yup. I bought it over the weekend. I traded my other one in and got this one." The pink woman voiced as she got in the driverside. "Shotgun!" Sero voiced as he quickly got to the front of the car and closed the door, leaving Kurmara to sit by herself in the back. "Gods Hanta." She shook her head as she buckled up. "I wonder if you could race Bakugou with this car," "Don't you put that thought in her head, you idiot." Sero looked back at her with a sneaky smirk on his face and the woman shook her head mouthing 'shut up' but he just turned towards Mina, whispering something to her which caused her to gasp and look back at Kurmara.
"Are you kidding me?!" "What the hell did he tell you?" "Uh, that you might like Bakugou!" "Hanta! What the hell!" He just laughed as Mina began to drive towards the place they were planning to visit. "Is it true? You like that explosive guy?" She queried and Kurmara shook her head. "No way in hell. He's not my type and not to mention, he was an ass to me back at UA for the longest time." She huffed, crossing her arms. "You better not! You two wouldn't even be good together, you both have way too different personalities." "He and Midoriya have two different personalities and yet they're friends." Kurmara retorted which made Mina shake her head. "That's different. Don't think I don't remember what happened between the two of you when we had the dorms." "Mina, I told you before that what you saw wasn't real! He and I were just talking then you claimed to see something that didn't happen!" "I know what I saw! And at that time, you were dating Kirishima! I didn't take you to be the sneaky dating type." "You misunderstood what the hell happened," Kurmara huffed.
"Bakugou wanted to talk to me about something so we talked and what happened is entirely different from what you claimed to see." "Wait, what happ-" "Quiet Sero!" The girls shouted at him and he looked at his phone, not saying another word. "Look, you can deny it all you want, but I just hope you're going to be careful tonight. I don't want you getting drunk and end up hooking up with Bakugou then regretting coming out with us." "Oh my gods Mina, how many times do I have to tell you? I do not like him in that kind of way! You're acting like a teenager, not a hero or an adult." "Just to interrupt but we're here sooo," "Let me park so we can head inside." Mina voiced and Kurmara rubbed her temples, already regretting her decision to tag along. If I had known Hanta was gonna pull that shit... She thought as she unbuckled her seatbelt once the car was parked. "You coming or are you going to leave once we get to the doors?" Sero queried when Kurmara didn't move. "I just have to look at something real quick then I'll join you guys. Besides, I hear that Denki is paying for drinks."
"Oh shit, then hurry up! Hey Kaminari!" Kurmara giggled to herself when he ran from the car over to where Bakugou and the other two were. She thought about whether or not she should leave after the little heated discussion with Mina but she shook her head. "Just because one thing happened doesn't mean it has to ruin your mood.." she voiced to herself as she took a deep, calming breath before she stepped out of the car and walked over to where her friends were. "There she is! Thank you for not deciding to just ditch us entirely." Denki voiced when he saw her. "I thought about it, but you're paying for drinks so I couldn't pass that up." "That's good- wait what?!" She gave a giggle as everyone headed inside. She could hear the music from outside but once they all entered the dark yet flashy building, she wanted to cover her ears. It had been a long time since she had gone to a nightclub, so her eyes and ears hurt a little from the lights and the loud music. Kurmara grabbed Sero's arm as they walked through a small crowd to a booth area, the music still loud but muffled as they sat down.
"What do you think Kurmara? Glad you came out with us?" Denki queried and she rolled her eyes. "I'm starting to regret my decision because of my ears getting blown out, but yeah, I'm actually glad I tagged along." She voiced which made Hanta and Kaminari hug her. "Gods, let me go!" She laughed. "It's been so long since any of us were together like this!" "We went out just two weeks ago," Jiro voiced with a small shake of her head. "I'm talking about with Kurmara with us." "And us too, right?" A voice asked and they all looked to see Todoroki, Yaoyorozu, and Uraraka. "You guys are here!" Mina exclaimed as she grabbed Momo to sit next to her. "Of course! Sero and Kaminari messaged us saying that they were going to the nightclub with you guys." Uraraka told them as she sat next to Kurmara, immediately giving her a tight hug. "You two invited them?" The brown and blonde-haired woman queried as she hugged her friend back. "Yeah, we figured it would be nice for you to see a few of your other friends too." "Especially ones you made friends with immediately at UA." "All we're missing is Iida and Deku though."
"That's fine, we don't need everyone here if they can't make it." Kurmara voiced as she tapped Uraraka to loosen her squeeze. "Besides, we would've told you they were coming if you didn't agree to come in the first place," Sero added with a smile that made her roll her eyes. "I swear," "What should we do first?" "I just want to get a few drinks first." "Oh, they have some really good food items-" "So, how have you been?" Kurmara asked Uraraka. "I've been good. Being a hero is a bit tough, but it's nothing I can't handle." She responded. "I hear you, recently for me it's just patrolling, but it's still something." "You guys have had patrols recently? So have we!" "Really?" "Yeah! We've been checking any and every building, alley, just name it." "Oh wow, that's what we've been doing too." The two of them talked about what they've been doing until Sero joined in. "Hate to ruin your conversation, but you two need to figure out what you're getting. Drink or food-wise." He told them and Kurmara nodded. "We got it, don't worry." "You're supposed to be having a good time, not talking about work tonight."
"Well, turns out that she's doing what we've been doing for the past week." She told him and he raised a brow. "Patrols? Wait, why?" He asked the gravity hero who just shrugged. "Just to make sure everything is alright, I guess?" "Weird. Anyways, Kurmara, there are many options for the drinks, like this one called the Lemon something." "I only know one alcohol drink with lemon in it called the Lemon Chuhai. It's good." She voiced. "Are we all paying for our own things or?" Ochako questioned and Kurmara looked at her, a smile on her face. "Oh, I have something. Watch this," "Are you going to do what I think you are?" Sero asked with a laugh. "Yup. Hey guys," the group looked at Kurmara and she held in her laughter as she was planning the scheme since that afternoon. "Denki's paying for drinks tonight!" Kurmara shouted with a smile. "I'm what-" "Really?" "Awesome!" "Thanks, Kaminari!" Everyone interrupted and the lightning hero looked at Kurmara. "You caused this, Hayashi." He voiced which made her laugh as she sat back down. "What was that?" Hanta asked with a laugh. "Just something I had planned since we finished patrols." She responded.
"You should've told me!" "No way, you would've ruined it." As everyone ordered drinks, Kurmara felt her phone buzz in her pocket. She quickly grabbed it and unlocked it, looking through her messages before disappointment went through her. She was expecting a message from someone, but it was just a reminder she had. She let out a small sigh before feeling a tap on her arm. "You okay?" Ochako asked her friend who gave a small smile and nodded. "Yeah.. yeah I'm fine. I'm going to head to the bar really quick," she voiced as she got up from the booths and over to the other side of the club, squeezing past people. She sat at the bar with a small sigh. "What can I get you?" The bartender asked when he walked over to her. "A Lemon Chuhai please." She voiced to the bartender and he nodded as he got her drink together. He slid it to her and she thanked him as she took a small drink from the glass. The music was loud, but not as nearly as loud as her thoughts, as unfortunate as that was. Kurmara shook her head as she drank her liquor, trying to ignore what she was feeling.
Stop it, I'm here to have a good time, not to feel upset. She thought but her brain refused to listen and instead, replayed events in her mind. She looked over to where her friends were seated and watched as they all laughed and drank, having a good time together. I should be over there with them.. not stuck thinking about someone. She felt a tap on her shoulder which made her jump a little in her seat and turn around to see who it was. "Hey Kurmara," a familiar face smiled at her and she hugged him. "Midoriya! So good to see you!" Kurmara said, feeling him squeeze her a little. "Good to see you as too! Where is everyone else?" The green-haired hero queried and she motioned behind her and he looked above her. "Ah, wait- why are you over here while they're-" "I wanted to get a drink. I'll meet you over there, just let me finish this one." She told him and he let out a small sigh. "Are you sure? We can get drinks later you know." "Yeah, it's all good. Besides, I wanted to get away from Hanta after being stuck with him all day." They both laughed before he nodded.
"Alright, we'll see you in a bit then." And with that, Midoriya walked away from the bar and towards the booths everyone else was sitting at. Kurmara watched as everyone greeted him once they saw him, Bakugou already seemed to have been shouting at him and that made her giggle before letting out a sigh and sitting back in the chair. If he's here, could that mean..? A voice queried in the back of her mind which made her look around. She searches for someone. For him. If Deku was there, then maybe he was too? She continued to scan the crowd before letting out another sigh, downing her drink before asking for another. Kurmara sat there at the bar for another thirty minutes, stirring her drink as she looked around the club, searching for who she hoped to see. "He's not coming, you know." A voice said behind her and she turned to see Denki who leaned against the bar next to her. "I know... I was just hoping I would spot him somewhere at least.." she sighed, looking down at her glass. "I've tried to talk to him but he doesn't answer as much.. you'd expect him to at least say something, you know?"
She didn't answer, just continued to look down before he suddenly grabbed her hand and pulled away from the chair she sat in, making her throw him a confused look. "We came out to have fun and hang out! So let's do just that!" Denki voiced with a smile as he pulled her into the crowd of dancing people. "Wait-!" He stopped when they were in the crowd and he let go of her hands before he began to dance. She watched him for a bit, not feeling like dancing until he grabbed both her hands again and spun her around, trying to get her to move her body. "Come on! Just one dance then we can go sit with the others!" Kurmara thought for a moment before shrugging and dancing a little, letting the beat of the music guide her movements. "There we go!" He voiced as he danced with her and she let out a little laugh as they danced. They were together in the crowd until Kurmara was getting tired of it and pulled Denki out of the crowd. "See? It was just one dance." He said and she laughed. "You mean three or four dances?" "I wasn't paying attention, I was just making sure you were having a good time."
"Wait, what made you think I wasn't?" She queried as they went to the bar to get drinks for them and their group. "Well, ever since we came in, you looked like you had something on your mind or that your mood just changed.. I don't know." He voiced and she sighed. "You're right, My mood did change, but it's better now thanks to you." Kurmara said and Denki smiled at her "Well, I'm glad to have helped change your mood. Now, let's head back to everyone else. They miss you over there considering you said you'd hang out with us." "Alright, alright. Let's grab the drinks and go." She giggled and they grabbed the alcohol they ordered before heading towards the booths.
