I should have known this would happen. The first day of school was always a dread and now I have the whole school calling me a slut. It didn't matter that my sister passed at the end of the school year. Everyone just knew that I had slept with Alan. Josh was the only friend I had left. He chose me over Alice considering he knew the whole truth and ended up finding out what really happened. When I told him, I sobbed into his chest and like the good friend he is, he held me and comforted me.
Unfortunately for me, Josh and I didn't have every class together, just two. So when I was walking to third period, I walked down the hall right where Alice and half the squad just happened to be.
"I never knew trash could walk, did you girls?" Alice says loudly so I could hear.
"What a good best friend she is fucking your boyfriend." Citlali, second in command, adds.
"Actually I had him first so enjoy the way my asshole tastes, BITCH!" I shout to Alice.
She walks in front of her squad leaving the comfort of her locker leaning. Are we about to throw down right now? Fear brushes through me and betrayal takes control.
"So you're actually going to hit me because you found out I hid a guy I loved who's fucking toxic and psychotic?" I ask her, crossing my arms. I was friends with her and something tells me she wouldn't dare.
"I will if you keep trying to make yourself the victim and MY BOYFRIEND villain." She crosses her arms too.
"I warned you. I'll be laughing when he breaks your heart too. And I bet you didn't even know that so called dinner was to fuck my old bestie. Guess he had to downgrade to next best." I blow a fake kiss.
She rushes Me and pushes me back. I push her back, almost into her squad.
"Watch it," one of them says.
Suddenly there's a crowd, phones are out, people are hyping this up. I burst out laughing. I sound like a maniac, but truly I find it amusing.
She slaps me, the same cheek. Almost as hard and I lose it. In the blink of an eye, I find myself somehow pushing her to the hall floor and pounce on top of her. Bruising her pretty pale face. I gave her a black eye and a bloody nose and I would've kept going, probably commit murder, if the teachers didn't break it up.
"You hit like a bitch." I say to her as we're both restrained by the teachers then spit on her. I let out an evil giggle.
"Let's go." The teacher pulls me away and in a different direction, back to the crowd. I hear people booing.
"Get to class!" I hear the teacher holding Alice back shout.
Everything is a huge blur as I'm sitting in the office. I've never been in trouble before and I heard the consequences of a fight were automatic suspension, could maybe even be expulsion. We both got a piece of paper and we're supposed to write down our sides of the story and how it happened. I actually told the truth unlike that bitch. She had lied and said I attacked her and I knew her squad could easily back her up. Fortunately for me though, someone had posted the video just in time for the principal to see.
"So what really happened?" Miss Shay asks Alice.
"She attacked me while my girls and I were waiting for next class to start." She sounds almost innocent.
"Uh- huh." Miss Shay just clicks away and turns her computer screen to us. The fight posted on social media. Surprisingly it started from "I never knew trash could walk" almost like it was planned and I wondered. It was very possible, she could've seen my schedule when she aids for the counselor, maybe it was her first period. I didn't even remember, it had been a while since we talked and shared our senior schedules.
"Care to tell me the truth now?" She pushes on Alice.
"What can i say?" She turns her head to face me, "sluts get what they get and they don't throw a fit."
"And dumb bitches always get the asshole, eventually becoming a lesser women and worth nothing but their pussy. Oh wait, you're already just everyone's fling." I smile at her. She gets up from her chair and so do I. This time she throws a punch and it lands, hard. I shove her back and smack her across the face just as hard. Security rushes in and pulls us apart. They drag Alice out and Miss Shay demands me to sit.
"Did he actually hurt you?" She asks silently.
"No, I just totally made that up to get my ass beat." I say sarcastically.
"Not funny." She snaps her fingers. "Ariel, Why on earth wouldn't you tell anyone?"
"Who's going to believe me? Yet alone do anything about it?"
She looks at me with the most apologetic look on her face. My heart cracks a little and I feel a tear fall. Everyone knows now. All the effort and time I put into that man just for him to turn around and screw Katie then date Alice.
"I'm going to ask Counsler Jenny to talk to you at least once a week and I highly suggest you go. There has to be some way to talk about these things. If you don't wish to attend I will just have to report it to the police…"
"NO PLEASE!" I plead. Every girls worst nightmare and somehow my reputation is already bad enough why would I dare make it worst
"What period or classes do you think you'd be able to skip out on just in case?" She squeezed mg hand.
"English or History." I say.
Flashback:
It was sometime after ten that night. I had an awful feeling in my gut that something was wrong, terribly wrong. I've just had a nightmare a couple weeks ago where we were all on a ship and just like the Titanic, we hit and we sunk slowly. I watched Anne sink as I couldn't go back and save her because she was stuck on a piece of the broken ship. It felt like I cried actual tears in that dream.
My aunt came in with the most pained look on her face. She looked so pale and her eyes were so watery.
"Aunt Cheri what is wrong?" I ask raising myself up from laying on my bed. I had almost fallen asleep.
"Something terrible has happened," she sighs and a tear falls from her eye and lands on my arm.
"What has?" I ask. Almost angry that I'm waiting for news.
"Anne…" she sobs.
No
There's just no way.
She's lying.
Is she?
She has to be
"What happened?"
"Some ass hole did a hit and run. They think it's a drunk driver. They crashed into another veichle as well. I'm so sorry baby" she holds me tight.
"This can't be!" I scream at her.
"It is baby, I'm sorry." She brushes my hair back as I sob into her arms for what feels like forever.
Not my baby sister. Not the one who was younger and definitely not the person who least deserved it
