Chereads / Demonic Prince Grey / Chapter 6 - Equal

Chapter 6 - Equal

Just as Grey believed he was about to be fatally wounded a loud Clang rang out throughout the area. Like a small wooden stick hitting a steel wall, half of the now broken sword flew through the air eventually stabbing into the stages' surface. Standing between Grey and Yan Ming was the still smiling examiner blocking the sword with his own.

Yan Ming immediately burst into a rage. "You! You actually dare to stop me from killing a mere peasant! Don't you know who my father is!"

The examiner seemed oblivious to his anger however. "Even if you are the son of the great general Yan, you still have to follow the rules of our academy. If Grey is accepted into the academy then you will only be able to kill him via a life and death challenge but if he fails it will have nothing to do with us."

"Please calm down young master Yan, our Lunarreach royal academy still has to uphold our dignity."

Grey frowned as he heard this. Young master Yan would never lower himself to challenge someone he believed to be a peasant to a life and death challenge, he would definitely see that as beneath him so he would most likely use more underhanded means. Even knowing this Grey still looked towards him indifferently. After all, why did he have to care about a mere young master from the Lunarreach kingdom. He still knew that he had to quickly raise his strength to avoid this danger.

Young master Yan was clearly annoyed by his indifference however "Hmph, you do realise that either way you will eventually die right."

Grey simply gave a cold Smile and was about to repond when he was cut off by the examiner. "Please leave this for after the test, we still need to finish today after all. Now young master Yan please go ahead and take the test."

Yan Ming snorted, but proceeded to place his hand on the testing rune. A bright light flashed flashed into the air creating a projection of the words:

Talent: A Rank Elemental affinity: Unknown

The crowd burst into cheers congratulating him for his excellence whilst mocking Grey for offending such a person after all who didn't want to be on the good side of such a talent.

He looked looked towards grey with a mocking sneer. "Well kid? Feeling regretful yet?"

Grey directly ignored him walking to the testing rune and placing his hand upon it. Everyone looked expectantly assuming he was going to embarass himself. At the end of the day how rare was an A grade talent but as they were thinking this another blinding flash of light shot out projecting the words:

Talent: A grade Elemental affinity: Variant Fire element

Grey was originally quite disappointed at only an A grade talent but then realised that this was the limit of this kind of rune meaning no matter how high it was he could only reach A grade here, also he knew his variant fire element was the result of his bloodline as the Thrarion clan all used a special kind of fire.

Also he knew that the elemental affinity was simply the easiest element to learn and although difficult for most it was entirely possible to learn other elements.

He received his proof of admission from the smiling examiner before looking towards Yan Ming,

"Well, felling regretful yet?" returning his question maintaining his cold indifference then turning around and walking away from the recruitment centre.

The crowd was completely dumbstruck by these events as nobody dared to even make a sound.

Yan Ming gritted his teeth in anger and embarassment before shouting towards Grey, "be careful kid, lest something unfortunate happens." Subsequently jumping into his golden chair and ordering the four people holding it carry him away.

The principal of lunarreach was currently sat in a small room watching these events unfold with a refined yet bulky man. This man held a two metre long sword by his side and was looking towards Yan Ming with clear displeasure written on his face.

The principal also looked towards Yan Ming but with a profound smile instead. "General Yan, what do you think?

"About Ming? He's simply too arrogant, relying on my influence. It makes him look ridiculous. Even after knowing this kid has talent rivalling his own, if not greater, he is still determined to kill him. Maybe this kid is the wake up call he needs and hopefully it happens before he dies due to his unearned arrogance. Only once he has his own strength will it be justified." General Yan replied in a deep voice still with a frown.

"What if he ends up being the one to die to this Grey instead?" The principal asked curious to his intentions. Obviously he didn't want either one of them to be harmed in the end.

"If that happens then so be it. If we want somehow to escape from the Martial alliance then we will need them. If this Grey continues to be superior to Ming then we will use him. I am a general before I am a father, for the kingdom I will not hinder him for my own selfish reasons. But after all that I am still a father not a machine, otherwise i wouldn't let Ming parade around using my influence for so long so truthfully I don't know what i'll do in the future." He sighed at the unreasonable expectations placed on him. Why would the king decide to do such a ridiculous thing even if he was displeased?

"Also I may be a general but those two aren't. If Ming's temperament is resolved they will both eventually leave instead of staying in this tiny kingdom if not Ming will die."
