A Day In The Fated Future
House of the Crowleys
(Dazai Crowley's POV)
"Hey, Dazai? I think I'm pregnant~" Blair told me.
"...What?" I replied, throwing her a sideway glance of utter surprise and skepticism.
"Yeah, you pumped me full, remember?~..." She asked me in a casual yet satisfied manner.
"And whose fault is that? You're the one who tried taking more than you could handle. Now look at you, fat belly and everything." I replied with a sigh.
"Hehe~….." she chuckled awkwardly.
Although I barely made enough curry to feed the two of us, I purposely cut the meat and potatoes into bite sized yet hearty chunks. Paired with the amount of rice I boiled and fried, it wasn't surprising to see that both of us found ourselves rather full.
While we were both indeed hungry, much to my surprise, Blair scarfed down her food a little too fast and finished first. After stuffing her cheeks and rubbing her stomach in satisfaction, she decided to spin a little joke, hence the "pregnancy" comment.
After sighing a small breath of relief, Blair took a sip from a nearby cup of water before reclining back in her seat. Seeing her being this pleased almost made me want to let down my guard and relax.
But I'm not that stupid. I still got my eye on her.
Suddenly, Blair asked me a question.
"There's been something I wanted to ask you. Did anything happen while you were unconscious?"
"Which one? The time I first woke up here, or I don't know….the time you nearly killed me?" I asked very sarcastically, all the while sipping on some water.
"Hey, I still intended to heal you and even apologize afterwards, didn't I?~...."
"Ah yes, because "oops, sorry" fixes everything."
Blair sighed.
"But no seriously. You were tossing and turning a lot in your sleep, and you were also moaning in a very pained voice every so often. It was as if you had a nightmare. Did something happen?" She asked.
"You're asking me about that, now?"
"I mean, if I acted like I cared about you immediately after telling you I intentionally hurt you, just so I can bait out some affection, you would have tried to kill me right on the spot, wouldn't you?"
"Fair point." I sighed in acceptance and scratched the back of my neck.
For a moment I started to think if it was a good idea to tell Blair what I witnessed and whatnot, but after realizing that there shouldn't be any real harm in it, I decided to come straight out with it and see where it would take me.
"Well, where do I even begin? I doubt you would believe me even if I told you."
"Eh, it's fine. I have seen and heard a lot of ridiculous things to last me a lifetime. Try me."
"Aight if you say so. Well, when I fell asleep, I felt like I was drifting through space. It was like an empty and unending void. I think it was the same place I was in before I first woke up here in this reality."
"So, like some sort of alternate dimension?"
"I don't think so, but it felt like one. I don't know if it was actual space or anything but that reality was definitely real."
As I began going more into detail, Blair got lost in thought, but I could tell she was listening closely and began understanding some things.
"I see, I think I get it. How we got here. Or atleast, the road we took to get here anyways."
"Seriously?"
"Yeah, kinda. Before I first woke up here, I drifted through that same space. And while it may have been some sort of dreamscape, I also know for a fact it was real. Which makes me wonder if that was the way as to how we went from one world to the next."
"A bridge between worlds, huh. So you think that's how we transmigrated here?" I asked.
"I don't know, but it's the best answer we got, so why not go with it? Hell, if it's true, that could mean we could go back through using that same route."
"Alright, fine, why not? But if that's the case, then we may or may not have a problem." I forewarned.
"What….?" She asked suspiciously.
I sighed.
"I-…..may or may not have…..broke….that world."
Blair raised her eyebrow in a curious manner. And now that I said that much, I might as well follow through and explain myself.
"The whole situation got me in my emotions. I became so damn angry, I didn't even know what to do with myself…So I went on a rampage."
As I was talking, I began to stare at my right hand.
"And, believe it or not, the destruction I created caused the world to crack and shatter at the seams. Until, it finally broke like glass."
Silence befell the two of us. But afterwards, Blair chuckled just a little.
"Are you saying….you broke what could have possibly been...our one way ticket out of this place?"
"Well....yeah. I guess that means we don't need to worry about backtracking our way out of here." I said awkwardly, while shrugging my shoulders.
"So that means we're essentially stuck here, huh. Aye yai, yai yai…." Blair sighed a bit and sat back in her chair in a somewhat depressed manner.
"Looks like it…..Hey, wait a second. What are you even believing in me in the first place? For all you know I could've just been lying." I asked.
Suddenly, she tossed me an indifferent and unsurprised look.
"Well, you are Dazai Crowley after all~..." She told me as if this was all but expected of me.
"The hell's that supposed to mean?" I asked.
"Oh nothing special~... It's just that I'm not "that" surprised to hear you destroy one part of reality."
"Are you kidding me….?"
"Hey, I told you, didn't I? I have seen some ridiculous stuff back in my day. Compared to that, dimension busting and whatnot isn't all that special to me."
Judging from how Blair spoke to me, it was as if she accepted my words to be true. What's really scary was how she casually believed such a feat was indeed possible. I mean can you even blame me?
I broke a whole dimension that served as a bridge between two different worlds, with nothing but my anger, willpower and a little bit of magical power.
For me, that's something that shouldn't be possible, but to Blair, it was nothing more than some sort of underwhelming accomplishment.
Blair's unsurprised behavior was also natural, meaning she wasn't lying about anything either. In other words, whatever "ridiculous shit" she saw in her past, made what I did pale in comparison. Which is actually terrifying to think about.
I think now would be a really good time to reassess Blair's threat level....
"In any case, if your inner consciousness was going on a rampage, that would explain your grumbling here in this world. Was that when you finally woke back up?" She asked me.
"No, something else happened a little while before that. I have no clue where, but some woman appeared directly before me." I explained further.
Blair raised her eyebrows in curiosity.
"Was she a goddess?"
Is this woman a detective!?
"Yeah, there was no mistaking it. Her presence was just way too divine for no regular person. In fact, I think she even addressed herself as such."
"Let me guess, she didn't tell you her name either, did she?"
"No…."
"And you don't have any other other clue as to who she is, huh." She asked while taking some mental notes. Meanwhile I sighed and thought for a second.
"Well, I wouldn't say all that, actually."
"Hmm?"
"Back when we were talking, she said she was my "final destination", or something. As if she was the person I have been searching for so long. Thing is, I really don't have any idea as to who she is."
"Final destination? Well, I can't understand what she meant by that, but I think it's safe to assume she knows something about your lost memories."
"Yeah, I thought so too. In fact, she's probably not the only one here who knows about it."
"What makes you say that?" She asked.
That was when I chose to quote a particular statement the woman made earlier;
"I see. So you have broken through one of the many parts of Fiction, huh. In a timely fashion faster than what "we" anticipated no less." I mumbled aloud while trying to mimic her voice at the same time.
"...We?" Blair questioned.
"That's what I first thought as well. For some reason, that "goddess" was surprised to see how well I was able to destroy the dimension and complimented me some time after. The thing is, she spoke as if I was ahead of some sort of schedule. But when she did, she intentionally used the word "we", indicating she wasn't the only one hiding behind the scenes."
Blair's eyes widened a little in realization. But when she understood what I was saying, she instinctively looked around her surroundings out of suspicion.
"Wait, so where are they now?" She asked me.
"Don't know, but I doubt they are anywhere near us right now. I think we can relax for right now, but don't let your guard down. They are probably watching us as we speak right now." I replied.
Although I spoke calmly and tried to remain composed, my brain was extremely lost in thought.
If she was asking me about that, does that mean she didn't know about them either? Tch, that would mean I'm dealing with a completely third party here.
Well, that would probably be for the best since it would rule out Blair from being one of their allies.
But if that's the case, this changes everything.
For starters, the mere existence of a third party is enough to call my previous theory of Blair being my kidnapper into question. If that "goddess" was really working with some other friends of hers, the list of suspects I'm dealing with just got a lot larger.
Who was it who really put me here? Why did that Goddess call herself my final destination? And why did I forget everything about myself?
"Nothing makes sense no more…." I mumbled aloud.
As I began to rack my mind through these questions yet again, I grew tired and eventually plopped my head on the table depressed, before sighing.
But suddenly, Blair began to pat my head from across the table.
"I know, I know. This is all so confusing, isn't it. We barely know where the hell we are, let alone how we got here. But there's one thing I know for sure…" She said, trying to reassure me of something.
"Oh yeah, and what's that?" I asked.
"That goddess said she was your final destination, right? And from the sounds of it, she seems to know more about your past than even you do."
"Yeah, what about it?"
"Well, if that's the case, wouldn't that just mean she pretty much established herself as our endgame? You know, like some sort of final boss that we got to reach and beat in order to learn all of the answers you're looking for?" She asked.
A~....actually, she's not wrong…. In the midst of my unexplainable and silent confusion, her words were like a ray of light and hope strong enough to pierce the darkness and make some sense of the situation.
Blair was right. Up until now, we didn't really have any idea where to go or what to do besides take everything in stride and simply explore around the house. And if that wasn't going to get us anywhere, then we would have been stuck running around in circles and figuring out nothing in the process.
If anything, the appearance of this "goddess" actually works in our favor because it helps us relatively understand who we're dealing with.
Thanks to her, this whole situation just became a game of practically hide and seek. In other words, just like what Blair said, all we got to do is find that god and get the answers we were looking for.
Guess that means I'm hunting down a goddess, huh.
