A Day In The Fated Future
House of the Crowleys
(Dazai Crowley's POV)
"Before we move on with anything else, I think now is a good time for us to go through everything we know." I said to Blair.
"Fine by me, really. Guess that means we should start with self introductions again?"
I nodded.
"Yeah, a good refresher wouldn't hurt, so I'll go first."
I cleared my throat and stood up.
"My name is Dazai Crowley. My parents are Troy and Carla Crowley and I have a little sister named Alice. Thanks to my mother, I have tons of experience in cooking. And those skills are something I take pride in. However, that's all I really know about myself since I woke up in this world with amnesia."
After speaking, for some reason, Blair began to clap her hands happily as if I did well performing on stage. Since it was so weird, I decided to sit back down and relax.
That was when Blair took her turn.
"Name's Blair. I "was" a noble at birth, but shit happens, and well, you know, that changed. Now, I'm just a humble believer of the Godmother, and a teacher who likes to travel the world and aid others."
"Uhuh."
"Oh, and of course, my one and true love is you!~"
"Wow, a little forward, much?"
I'm still wondering how Blair was able to get away from her toxic family. Did she run away and just not get caught? Or maybe she faked her death? Well, either way, I won't know until she tells me herself.
But with her being so stingy about describing her past in detail, I probably won't learn anything more about her right now. Well, atleast I was able to trick her into showing me one part of her true colors.
The other "personality" that lies behind the overbearing facade she calls herself.
"Alright, now that's out of the way, let's review what we learned so far and use those clues to answer any more of our current questions." I said.
"Well, we know that this place is your house."
"Not really. If anything, it's nothing more but a cheap imitation. That mysterious emptiness in the air makes it abundantly clear."
"Right. If you want my opinion, we should refer to that emptiness as some sort of "Lost Void". It'll be alot easier to keep track of what we're talking about that way."
"Ah, so like a metaphorical void, huh? Yeah, I'm fine with that." I said in agreement.
"Mhm~... Now, for whatever reason, that same "void" exists in this house. This place may seem like your home, but at the same time, you can tell it isn't real."
"Exactly. However, lately, that's started to change thanks to a particular strange light. I think it'll be best to call it the "Recall Light" just for the same purpose we did for Lost Void."
Blair nodded.
"Right. Now whenever I remember anything even remotely important to my past, the Recall Light appears and manifests similar items and other constructs related to that particular memory."
"For instance, this scarf I'm wearing now is related to a memory of my father, hence why it appeared before me in my parent's bedroom." I continued.
"Mhm, after seeing what Recall Light and Lost Void does, we eventually came to the conclusion that this place reflects your memories or lack thereof. That's basically the gist of what we know right?" She asked.
"Pretty much, but now, everything else is a mystery. For starters, why does this house have such a close connection to my amnesia? Who built it in the first place? And to what purpose does it serve?"
After placing those questions on the table, me and Blair thought for a moment.
"Well, from what we know now, it's safe to assume that the goddess you saw in your dream was the one behind this. If not, she's probably got other friends who did so as well."
"Right, the enemy we're dealing with isn't working alone. And it'll be difficult to proceed further until we learn about everyone else who's involved."
"Yep, that sounds about right."
Although Blair sounded satisfied with the general conclusion we reached, there was still something that didn't make sense to me.
"There's still something that's odd though."
"And what's that?" She asked.
"It's you, Blair."
My words were neutral in tone, but it definitely jabbed her the wrong way. Naturally, she raised her eyebrow and crossed her arms out of suspicion.
"Me? What did I do?"
"It's not what you did that's wrong. It's more so, "why" you are here in the first place." I said.
Suddenly, Blair fell silent, as if to console with her thoughts. But it wasn't long until she chuckled a little under her breath.
"Pft~....Does it even matter?~"
"Of course it does! In a situation like this, we need to consider all the details and question everything!"
"Is that so…..?" She asked, except this time she paid less attention to what I was saying.
"Yes! Think about it. For whatever reason, this house is tied to only my memories. Whenever I remember something, it triggers a reaction. But as far I know, nothing crazy seemed to happen for you."
"Well, unlike you, I don't have amnesia. I know everything about my past, as clear as day. I just don't have any clue as to how I got here in the first place."
"That's a good point. But whether or not you remember doesn't matter. Because it still doesn't explain why you're here." I persisted.
"Tch….." I barely heard it, but she definitely clicked her lips in a displeased manner under her breath.
A little irritated, she broke eye contact with me and looked outside the window near us.
Yeah, I saw you trying to change the subject. You may be conniving, but you aren't that slick, woman.
"There's also something I also forgot to mention." I added on, now ready to deliver the last point of my argument.
"Hmm?"
"After I broke that dimension between worlds, the Goddess later told me that this was nothing more than me passing the first "test" to some trial."
Suddenly Blair flinched and her eyes subtly widened a little out of surprise.
"I'm sure you understand what I'm getting at don't you? Since the moment I first woke up here to the moment I met that mysterious woman, all signs related to this world placed some sort of focus on me specifically. But you…..?"
"It's as if you're nothing more but some extra on the stage." I continued.
But even after all of that, Blair still refused to tell me anything. Instead, she just sat there and looked out the window in silence.
Tch, I didn't want to go this far on my accord, especially since what I'm about to do is probably a terrible idea…..but she leaves me no other choice.
All of these questions that are circling around my head are killing me. I want my answers. I need to know what happened to me in the past, and the reason as to why I am here.
I need to reach…..that "final destination". Even if it means I need to put my life on the line just to make it happen. I have to cover all my bases.
Which means….
It's time for me to use those less conventional methods I have been considering beforehand.
Taking in a deep breath, I tried to steel myself and stood up. After getting out of my chair, I walked over to Blair, all the while keeping a little bit of distance between us.
And yet, she still paid me no mind. But with her abilities, I'm sure she should have noticed by now.
My intention to kill….
