Chapter 32 - At The Mercy of Another

A Day In The Fated Future

House of the Crowleys

(Dazai Crowley's POV)

Although I had no physical weapons to my name as of yet, I did gain the ability to use some of my old magic spells from back in the day.

Like for example….

*Vrummmh…..*

As I outstretched my right hand towards Blair's face, white light quickly began forming into a construct in the shape of a sword. With energy emanating off its body, it generated a very soft and dull hum.

This...was "Promised Saber Pure". A sword constructed purely out of the concept of light itself.

Being made out of light and mana, it possessed the ability to cleave through metals, even titanium, and deconstruct matter on a molecular level. Basically think of a deadly laser but in the form of a sword.

And with that same sword, I now pointed it towards Blair's neck, daring to kill her right where she stood.

"I won't ask again, Blair….Why are you here?"

Silence came in between us. But her lack of words was not enough to make me triggerhappy. I was willing to wait as long as I needed to, so as long she didn't try to pull any tricks on me.

But when I thought I had prepared myself for the worst, I didn't expect the things that Blair was going to do to me afterwards….

Showing not even the slightest ounce of fear or intimidation, she turned her back to face me and simply threw a casual and unimpressed look at me.

"That's none of your business~…."

"Blair!" I loudly blurted out of impatience.

But the moment I couldn't control my emotions any more and shouted aloud, her soft and caring purple eyes quickly changed into a demonic glance so cold and terrifying, it pierced through my soul like it was nothing but paper.

As if I was shot with an arrow poisoned by the concept of fear itself, I staggered in place, nearly petrified of what happened. Unable to move or even process what the hell was going on, Blair outstretched her open hand towards my chest.

"...Huh…?"

But before I could even realize what happened, I felt a powerful wave of spiritual energy explode from her palm. The force was so strong that it sent me flying a couple feet in the opposite direction.

*CRASH!*

"Graaah!?"

Getting hit by a force on par with a wrecking ball, I crashed into several tables and chairs behind me before finally crashing into the ground so hard it cracked the wooden floor.

Although I was durable enough to survive the impact, I was too caught off guard to make an immediate recovery.

But by the time I could support myself back up using my sword, I already noticed Blair had closed the new distance between us in but a second.

With her standing over me so menacingly without so much as a smile was enough to trigger my fight or flight instinct.

Tch, I should've seen this happening. No, In fact, I did. I just wasn't expecting to freeze up on the spot like that. What the hell even happened to me?

Well, whatever happened, I can't stand here worrying about it. I just pissed off Blair, after all.

I was the one who got myself in this mess, and I intended to get out of it, without running away.

If I can just get the chance to dual wield….

I might actually stand a chance…

"P-....Promised Saber Pur—!?" I uttered out, trying to materialize another sword in my left hand.

But before I even got the chance to summon another weapon, Blair stopped me mid sequence with a completely new spell I never heard of.

"God's Curse - Vampire Silk."

As she said that, a crimson thin spider silk-like substance was shot out from her left hand before wrapping itself around me in a restraining manner.

"Shit!" In a matter of moments, I was constricted by its python-like grip strength. But that wasn't even the worst part about it.

Not only did this string carry potent paralytic effects strong enough to render my body numb with a mere touch, it was also capable of draining all of my strength from the inside out. Like the name implies, it was as if some vampire was eating me.

Fuck!

"UFUAAH?"

While I was stuck motionless, Blair came closer and kicked me in my chest, aiming directly for my abdomen, which knocked the wind out of me and had me painfully reeling on the floor gasping for air.

And thanks to Vampire Silk, all my magical energy and strength was robbed from me, forcing my previous sword to shatter into nothingness.

In a matter of moments, Blair had me at her mercy.

God, I'm such an idiot…..Why the hell did I think threatening her like this was a good idea!?

Suddenly, like a sadistic mistress, Blair placed her heel on my stomach, in the same area where she first kicked me, making it hurt all the more.

While she didn't look down on me in disgust or in superiority, nor took pleasure in the pain she inflicted on me, she certainly didn't appreciate what I did and chose to put me in my place.

Which was understandable.

"Whether or not there is some significant reason as to why I'm here doesn't matter." She explained.

After she said that, she removed her foot off my chest and instead mounted herself right on top of my pelvis.

"All you need to know is that I'm here on my own accord...and that I'm on your side~…" She continued, except this time speaking more affectionately.

As she said that, she placed her hands on my cheeks and stared deeply into my eyes in a loving manner.

It was actually surprising to see those same eyes that made me know fear now looking at me with the passion of a captivated woman. Even these hands that nearly killed me now felt so tender and warm…

"O-....own accord? Wait….are you sayin—!?"

But before I could even ask, Blair placed her index finger upon my lips and stopped me from speaking.

"Shh, that's nothing for you to worry about. All that matters….is that you place some more trust in me."

And the moment she said that, Blair slowly leaned in forward and came in close for a kiss.

It wasn't long until our lips connected.

I had nearly forgotten this blissful and euphoric feeling of tasting her. But experiencing it for the second time made those feelings return tenfold.

Although I felt conflicted whether or not I should trust Blair, I couldn't lie when I say she's one hell of a good kisser.

Just like the time I first woke up in this world, Blair's kiss of passion rejuvenated the energy she stole from me previously. Except this time, she didn't try to be too seductive about it and go in deep. Instead, she kept it as a rather simple kiss on the surface.

Once our lips parted, Blair lifted her face just a few centimeters off mine. There were no "heart eyes", but I definitely could tell there were emotions gleaming in her eyes. With her being so close, I could easily feel the warmth of her skin.

Thanks to her, I got back most of my strength and recovered from all the wounds she inflicted on me. I probably even feel alot better than before, similar to how she healed my arm from way back when.

But just when I was enjoying the relief, Blair put me on the spot and challenged me with a question I could not dare hope to shy away from.

"Tell me, Dazai. Do you trust me?" She asked softly, but I could tell she was being serious.

Unlike the times beforehand, there were no tricks or traps in her words. With her being so upfront and honest with me, I realized that the time for games was over and I needed to answer truthfully.

But being put on the spot like that after having my ass handed over to me doesn't make this situation any less easier. I couldn't think straight. My mind couldn't come up with any clever word play or subtle scheme to worm my way out of this situation.

"I-.....I can't answer that right now." I replied, completely unsure how else to respond.

"Even if I told you I wasn't the one who could've kidnapped you?" She replied.

The moment Blair said that aloud, my eyes widened out of utter surprise.

"W-...What are you talking about?" I asked, trying to feign ignorance.

But without so much as saying a word, Blair's eyes shot me another gaze meant to cut through my superficial lies.

"....What gave it away?..." I asked again, but this time, surrendering to her observations.

Blair only smiled.

"Eh, not much, really. All I did was put two and two together. But when I did, that's when I realized you raised three different red flags."

"What…..?"

But the moment Blair decided to go into detail about these three "flags" I supposedly raised was when I realized….

I truly fucked up.
