A Day In The Fated Future
House of the Crowleys
(Dazai Crowley's POV)
A lot has happened since I first woke up in this world. I started off with this crazy sense of amnesia accompanied by this unexplainable aimlessness and a mysterious yet beautiful woman that proclaims to be my wife but doesn't like talking about her past.
Then after back to back shenanigans of finding clues and understanding what the hell is going on, I get knocked unconscious, break a dimension, and then suddenly meet a cute goddess on the other side.
Only to find out that she or her friends could most likely be the one who fucking kidnapped me and made me forget everything about myself.
And for all I could know, she could be trying to rouse me into a trap and become my final opponent.
Thankfully, the shit between me and Blair passed over thanks to her showing mercy on me in exchange for a contract with understandable terms.
The fact that I'm still alive after that terrible blunder I made from before is a miracle in of itself.
*Sigh*
After agreeing to her conditions Blair and I decided to move past what happened earlier. But just to be on the safe side, I made sure to apologize.
On the other hand though, Blair insisted on cleaning up the mess she made and decided to repair the damages caused to the house. It was probably because she held respect to her "husband's" abode.
Although I couldn't care less what happens here since technically this isn't my real home, I was wise not to stop her from doing what she wanted to do.
Besides, I later learned that she even knew some magic that has restorative properties useful for fixing furniture. As seen when I saw her mend the broken tables and chairs back to normal, without leaving so much as a scratch behind. I think they even became more durable in the process.
"Annnd…done!~" Blair proudly announced.
"Good job, the place looks good as new." I replied after coming out of the kitchen.
"Sorry about what I did, Dazai. I just don't take kindly to those who try to hurt me, you know."
"No, I absolutely understand. Let's just forget about it and move on to more important stuff."
"Like making babies?~" She asked seductively.
"You just don't quit do you…." I said, while sighing.
She chuckled.
"Hey, Blair? If you don't mind me asking, what was the last thing you remember before coming here?"
"Ooh, that's a very good question, actually. Hmm, let me think." She replied, stopping for a moment.
"Oh! I think I was fighting against some sort of monster back in the day." She eventually replied.
I raised my eyebrow.
"What, like an adventurer?" I asked.
"Eh, not exactly. It wasn't really something I wanted to do, but more so something that needed to be done. Because if nobody else did, then a lot of people were going to die. So I was one of the first to get drafted in the war against that deadly beast."
"War? Was it seriously that dangerous?"
"Oh, definitely. That bastard was easily a star level threat. That thing was so damn strong, other gods had to get involved, just so we could minimize potential damage and casualties." She said seriously.
"Holy shit….."
"Mhm~.... And I was at the forefront against all of that chaos, so you can see just how bad that situation got for me and many others."
Suddenly, as Blair began to reminisce on the past, she seemed to have recalled a tragic memory.
"….So…so many people died that day…" She mumbled aloud while clenching her forearms.
"Gods, it really was that strong, huh?…"
"Yeah, back then it was rumored that it was a planet devourer. It had the ability to consume stars and galaxies alike as if it was nothing. If it wasn't for everyone giving it everything they got, all of Yggdrasil would have nothing more but a snack."
This made me extremely worried. Since I have no recollection of any memories that happened recently, I wasn't sure if Yggdrasil was still around.
"So what happened afterwards? Clearly y'all did win right?" I asked, hoping that somehow our home planet didn't get destroyed in the process.
"I guess? I don't know. I wasn't there to see the conclusion." She replied.
"What are you talking about!? You were there weren't you!? Even if you weren't on the front lines you should've been able to see it from somewhere!"
"I'm just telling you what I know, dude." She replied, while shooting me a glance that told me to "calm down".
"The last thing I really remember was that shit got serious and that it was going on for far too long. Our main force had sustained heavy damage and we barely had enough resources to keep up the fight.
For me personally, after battling for so long, I got exhausted and then eventually, I blacked out."
"Next thing I know, I'm here." She continued.
"Tch, that doesn't really tell me if Yggdrasil is okay or not. Besides, don't you hear what you're saying? Why aren't you even the least bit worried!?" I asked.
"Because I have faith in my friends."
"Huh?"
"Even if I didn't get the job done myself, I'm sure they picked up where I left off. Regardless, it's not like I have any other way of finding out. Plus being worried just makes you prone to stress and I had enough of that to last me a lifetime."
"....I guess you're right….." I replied, dejected.
As much as I wanted to ask further, I didn't want to risk violating the third condition of our contract so I simply accepted her words and move on.
"What about you, Dazai? Do you remember anything special right before you came here?" She asked, trying to change the subject.
"At one point, I thought about that too, but no matter how hard I think, I can't seem to recall anything of recent. The only thing I know about myself is stuff that happened possibly years ago."
"Ah, so like that time when that princess kissed your cheek?" She asked me in a teasing manner.
"Princess? What are you talkin–....wait a second! Did you look at my pendant!?"
The moment I realized what she was talking about, I realized she was referring to the picture that was perfectly encased inside my pendant.
Suddenly, I scrambled to check my neck to make sure nothing happened to it.
Thankfully, it was still there with no signs of damage on either the chain or the picture.
"When did you…?-- Wait, you didn't do anything to me while I was unconscious, did you?" I asked.
But Blair only chuckled devilishly.
"Oh, there were a lot of things I could have done~ But what I "did" do is for me to know, and for you to only imagine, hehe~..."
"If we ever find a courthouse, I'm suing you."
Suddenly, Blair started singing a different tune.
"W–....wait, honey!! I-....It was just a p-prank!!"
"Uhuh….suurreee it was." I replied sarcastically, while narrowing my eyes at her.
"In any case, I remember you asking me about what type of school I went to once upon a time, but you never really told me what yours was like."
"Oh, mine? Hmm, well, which one are we talking about? I went through a couple back in the day."
Blair raised her eyebrow.
"The hell is that supposed to mean? Was you some sort of flunking delinquent or something?"
"No, it's nothing like that, actually. It's uh….hmm, let me think for a moment."
As I did though, vague memories of the past started to return to me, each consisting of various emotions and memorable moments. While it wasn't much to say I vividly remember everything, it was enough for me to naturally hold a conversation about.
"Well, if we're talking about highschool then my experience back then was uh….not the brightest to say the least." I eventually replied.
"I wasn't exactly a troublemaker….it was more like others were always making trouble for me."
"Oh, so you were bullied?" She bluntly asked.
"Uh, wow, coming straight out of the gate, huh. Well, yeah, I guess that's one way to put it, I suppose."
"Back when I was about fourteen, there was this one highschool that I attended. And every single day that I was there, I always found myself getting into a lot of tough fights with others."
"While I wasn't the one who liked challenging other people, I wasn't the type to run from a fight either. So I'm sure you can imagine just how many times I returned home covered in dirt and scrapes."
"Some of them were merely just for training, but yeah, there were some times bullies would get involved. Actually, more often than not, now that I think about it…." I mumbled aloud.
"I-...it wasn't miserable was it?...." Blair asked, being a little concerned for me.
I shrugged my shoulders, unsure how to answer.
"Well, it wasn't exactly the best time of my life, but it was tolerable. Besides, my sister was there so it wasn't like I was always by myself back then either."
Blair breathed a sigh of relief.
"Now, if we're talking about my time in Cerulean Academy, heh, well, now that's a completely different story." I unfortunately added on.
"What happened there?" She asked, being even more concerned than before.
"It's a very…very long story. But to sum it all up, that place was basically the very definition of hell."
Blair's eyes widened.
No surprise considering my choice of words.
"D-...do you want to talk about it?"
"Ugh, don't pry into my past." I replied, pretending to be edgy.
She only rolled her eyes.
"Look if you don't want to talk about it, then that's fine by me. We all have things we like to keep secret." She said, trying to ignore my silly tone.
I chuckled a little.
"Haha~...oh, relax. I was joking. Course it's not the type of story I would say for no reason, but I don't mind talking about it since you're asking."
"But you might as well go ahead and pull up a seat and get a donut or two. Cause we might be here a while." I continued.
"Yay!~ Story time!~"
"....What are you? Two years old?"
"Oh, leave me alone and let me have this~....." She replied, happily.
Like I recommended, Blair eventually grabbed herself a small tray of donuts and poured herself a cup of coffee. Wasn't too long till we took a seat at a nearby table and got comfy.
"Alright, alright. I guess I'll tell you the story of how I got my first taste of hell…."
"It's a long one and the full origins of the story runs a little deeper than what you might imagine at first, but I think I might know a good place to start."
"Let's see….It all began when "she" came into my room…."
