Chapter 22 - Teamwork

After half an hour was done, Verum looked at his men, they were not divided into teams at all, instead, they were standing in 3 rows with 5 men each.

"Jason." He said, looking at his captain standing with them. "You are the captain, captain stands in front. Not alongside, atleast not when there is no other in front. Never mind, you will learn soon, alright, let's get you into teams." He divided them into 2 teams, one with 10 and the other with 4, making his captain sit out. He then proceeded to make a stone pole which he inserted into the ground, as well as four stone cubes which he handed over to the team of four.

"No magic or skills allowed in this game, this is to test how far you can take your thinking and coordination."

"Team A will be you ten, and team B will be you four, Team A's objective is to stop Team B from completing their objective, and team B's objective is to reach that pole with the cubes. every one from team A will be wearing a ribbon on the forehead, if it is dropped or snatched, that person will be disqualified, if a member of team B drops or loses their cube to the other team, they are disqualified, if team A manages to prevent at least 2 of them from reaching the pole, they win. The time limit is 3 minutes. Team B, follow me."

He led Team B about 30 meters away, before speaking. "You have 2 minutes to make your strategies, after that, we will begin."

2 minutes later, team A was standing in formation, three in front, four directly behind to provide support, and the remaining three standing at the pole as the last line of defense.

'That strategy is not bad, I wonder if B will manage to succeed. Let's see how this plays out.' For some reason, Team B's members all had their hands behind their backs, trying to conceal something.

"Touch the pole with the cubes to score. Jason, start the match." Jason got up from the floor, and opened his mouth. "Everyone ready... Go!" As soon as the match was announced as started, two from B rushed at the first line, with the other two following a bit behind.

Team A tensed, and as soon as the first two from B got within reach, the first 3 lunged at them, however, they were shocked when they reached for their hands and found that they were not carrying the cubes, in that moment of confusion, the 3 of them lost there bandanas.

"They don't have the cubes, yet they are still competing? Isn't this cheating sir?" Jason asked with a puzzled expression, while the remaining team A tried to make sense of what was happening. The one's without the cubes did not let up their assault, however since they were about equally matched in martial arts, as well as outnumbered they were not able to take anymore bandanas from A, they did however, manage to keep the 4 busy with constant evasion.

The two at the back seemed to be discussing something. "Not at all Jason, the rule was disqualification if they either dropped it, or lost it, to an ENEMY team member, there was nothing about losing it to their own team. After all, if you are getting supplies, it would not matter to you if one person brought it, or a hundred people did, would it now?" As he said that, the two seemed to have finished their discussion, and moved around the second line, who desperately tried to get free from their attackers, however, they did not have any method to disqualify them, so they could only put their hopes on the ones behind them.

When they bypassed the 4, two of the three moved to intercept them, and they halted in their tracks, one wrong move, and they would lose their cubes, however, this seemed to be what they were waiting for. The two looked at each other and nodded, then, in unison, they jumped and threw the cubes towards the pole.

They had not expected that, the third panicked, and jumped to catch them, however, he only managed to catch one, and the other three hit the pole.

"Match over! B wins!" Verum announced, and the ones fighting stopped, and gathered around, along with the three that had been eliminated. "Let's look at your good points first, shall we? Team A, Your formation was not bad, but it could have been better if you had 4 in the front, other than that, there is not much that you did well. For B however, I have a lot of praise. Not only did make their enemies lose numbers, they also came up with 2 strategies, one of them during the match too."

"Giving your objective to your teammates is a risky venture, but they managed to pull through anyway, they also managed to hold down 4 of you with only two people, that is a very good achievement. Therefore, B has won in every aspect of this game. Good work!"

Hearing their lord's praise made Team B feel incredible. "Okay everyone, it is time for weapon training, and I will tell you this, except for sword, dagger, projectiles, and bow training, all other weapons are completely optional for you to learn, I will not force any of you to stay when I am giving this type of training, So feel free to go do what you want if you are not interested."

Saying this, he waited for a bit to see if anyone left. No one did. So he made a wooden spear with a stone head, and began to demonstrate.

"A spear is not that great in close-combat, however, if you want to keep distance from your opponent or inflict deep wounds, this weapon is one of the best. Spears are also good for defense. There are not many ways to attack with a spear, jabbing, slashing, stabbing, and hitting are the main ways, now watch closely." He said, and began to demonstrate.
