Chapter 28 - Bandits!!

In the middle of the Twilight city, outside one of the ancient towers, there are thousands of mages watching the excavation of the tower. They are flying in the air, standing on space, riding their summoned beasts and watching from the ground, forming a sphere around the tower.

At the forefront are four individuals who have the strongest magical presence. In red, green, blue and yellow robes, they are the Archmages from the Mage Country, elders of the Tower of Four Elements that is the governing body of the country. The country is governed by mages rather than royalty, thus the magic tower is recognised as the highest authority.

They are currently investigating the magic tower before them that is said to have existed from thousands of years ago, yet was never carefully scrutinised because of its lack of magical activity. That is until two month ago when a passing mage felt the flow of mana from it. Thinking it could be heritage from the ancient times, he tried to break in through various methods, but was left disappointed.

His actions have caught the attention of other mages and the information soon went out of control, causing mages from all over the continent to move towards the Holy Kingdom.

A gathering was already scheduled to discuss the rising concentration of mana and the possible return of the ancient era. The discovery of the ancient tower matches the topic so the gathering changed to this city so they can gain more insight to the past.

They are infringing on their territory, but the Holy Kingdom have been eerily quiet about it did not taking any action to stop the gathering, resulting in the current situation.

"In the end we could not get in."

"Even though we put all our minds together we still can't do anything, that means the owner of the tower is probably stronger than all of us combined."

"No way, it just means that they are more knowledgeable than us. It is quite normal since we lost a lot of heritage from beyond 700 years ago."

"Then the only way is to break in… I don't like it, it will be dangerous."

"How? It's so old already so the enhancements should already be failing. If not, the mana activity would not be detected so suddenly."

The four archmage are discussing their findings over the few days about the tower. Two old man and one woman are prudent in their estimates since they are long-lived and experienced, but the younger man in red robe is clearly impatient to go.

Anything beyond 700 years old are considered ancient and obscured. Since all the powerful and knowledgeable figures disappeared after the war, there is no way to judge the strength of the current generation with their predecessor's. Anyone old enough to witness the ancient era was not knowledgeable enough to explain correctly, using vague words to describe their abilities.

"Argh, so annoying!"

"Wait you idiot-!"

A huge fireball manifested above the red archmage. The others were taken back and quickly moved out the way.

"We've already tried everything we can, so the only way left is to destroy it. What is there to be indecisive about!"

"Stop-"

He threw the fireball, but just as it was about to leave his hands, a shout and a chant of unknown language resounded.

"---! Don't touch my house! You bandits!"

Then a green man with horns appears in front of everyone, following which a blazing meteorite can be seen falling at an incredible speed which smash the mage into the ground while dispersing his fireball.

An archmage has fallen. Everyone gawks in terror.

Safe~, just in time.

Man, if I came any later it would have been horrible, not for the tower, but for the kid in red. I mean, there is no way I would leave my magic tower unprotected right? It's common sense to stack enhancements after enhancement, formations after formations on your tower. It's the core of your magic research, your laboratory, and where you hide all your wealth and findings! It is only right to turn it into a magic fortress!

'And no one would leave their magic tower unattended for so long.'

'Oh Lir, you were very quiet just there so I thought Ronia or Gea might have dragged you to work.'

'Work? What's that? My work is to watch over you! So what will happen if he hits your magic tower?'

'The fireball would be neutralised and a beam of mana will melt him down to the bones.'

It's a system that react to the level of hostility each attack, so that spell which was made to destroy the tower will be met with a destructive beam. If you bash it with a hammer… nothing will happen, it wouldn't leave a scratch. But if you attack it with a siege weapon, you will be repelled. The previous fireball has a very concentrated destructive power, so he will die for sure in retaliation.

I am quite soft-hearted if I must say, any other mages would set it to annihilate all life in the vicinity.

But at least he's not dead!

"He's dead! He has been killed!"

"Roderick!!"

"That monster killed him!"

…What?

He's dead?
