Chereads / The Absurd Journey Of The Apocalyptic Sage / Chapter 29 - It Is Not My Fault

Chapter 29 - It Is Not My Fault

I look at the crater not even 10 meters deep, yet an archmage died from that?

I look into the crater to find a badly torn body lying beside a shredded staff. That means he managed to cast a spell in time to defend against the asteroid. Yet he was still injured and died due to the impact of being smashed into the ground.

Mages really have weak bodies hahaha… Not!

Where's your enhancements! Protective Charms, Artifacts, Magic Items! Your robe is fine other than being burnt, don't you enchant your robes?! A mage's fighting strength directly relates to the amount of preparation you've made, so what have you been doing at home!?

But he's dead, really dead. what do I do!?

'Turn yourself in Gobuda! Don't go further into the wrong path, turn yourself in!'

Stop speaking in that tear jerking voice, you read too much of my otherworldly cultural stash!

"Die, monster!"

"Wai-!"

Why, why! Your spell casting technique is obviously great, isn't it even better than mine? You had 700 years to develop your magic yet why are your robes not enchanted?!!

Three archmages are attacking me with spells while thousands of other mages are pointing their staff at me.

Dammit! I can't take their attacks since they can kill me, but I can't attack them because I might accidentally kill them. This is unfair!

By the way, I am not worried about the dead man. Roderick, was it? He had just freshly died so it's within the power of the Sage of Life and Death to bring him back.

See that friendly Lich over there?

"Damn Lich! Put down his body!"

"Exorcise that thing!"

Crap! I forgot she's in a wanderers body, and a very weak one too!

"Hold it!"

[Celestial Art: Azure]

The clear blue sky ripples when every mage falls as if the sky is lowering, pushing to the ground under immense pressure.

"Hurry up, great Sage! It's daytime, Celestial Magic isn't easy to use!"

Celestial Magic has low mana cost but great restrictions. Since it gathers the blessings of the stars, the number of spells that can be used in daytime is very few. I am very lucky that it's a clear day or my hands would be tied.

"Then why can you use it?"

"Because I improved! Lonely people have a lot of time to spare! Are you attacking my lonely life!?"

"Calm down. I mean, I was very lonely myself. And it will take a few more minutes to revive him, his body is quite mutilated under his robes."

Even though his robes are fine…

"Few minutes? Didn't you hear what I just said?"

"Don't touch his body you monsters!!"

Ah, the oldest archmage got up even though he's bleeding from his eyes. Stop, don't make me drop another rock on you!

[Cursed Art: Swamp]

A swamp of curses appears under the three archmages, weakening them and most importantly draining their mana.

"Since when did you learn Curse Magic?"

"When I was lonely…"

'Gobuda learned it because he wanted to curse the dragons to death. It didn't work though, but he was like, 'isn't it great if someone in the world can die if you just curse at them?' like that!'

"That sounds like Aruk. And good to hear from you again, Lirthusia."

'Long time no see~'

"Don't interrupt me, I just wanted to kill some dragons hiding in a place I can't reach. And why can you speak to her? It's weird that you can speak to me but at least you are beside my body, yet what about Lylia?"

'Hmph, I too, improved over the 700 years.'

…Weren't you sleeping most of the time. Were you trying to connect with Lylia before? That's why you were so quiet.

"Don't look down on us, you demons..."

"Who are you calling a demon, that one over there looks more like a demon."

I pointed to an elf with a guitar who have just arrived and can be seen fretting over the fallen bodies.

"… Doppelganger."

You have good eyes, kid. Though you look ten times older than me.

"Just calm down for now, we are trying to revive your friend here."

"Impossible, the art of resurrection has been lost long ago along with many divine magic."

He glares at me, though I can understand.

Divine spells are from the system of Holy Magic, a branch formed by mixing Magic and Divine Power. But with the weakening of divine power, divine spells naturally don't work anymore. But it should work now if they have yet to throw them away.

"But he's healing, look."

I turn them towards the floating body covered in dense aura of life and death, his vitality visibly recovering as the detached soul returns.

"Impossible…"

"Believe me now? In the first place it's your fault for trying to break into my tower. Don't you know how dangerous that is, his body could have melted and become irrecoverable."

'Uwaa… accidently killing someone and pinning the blame on the other side after overpoweringly suppressing them. Uwaa…'

You don't have to make that sound twice.

Since the archmages are pacified, I dispelled the cursed swamp and Azure, I also cured all their ailments. The other mages… have fainted. So little willpower, can't you see these old people bleeding from all orifices yet still standing. In the end I can't tell whether this generations mages are strong or weak.

"Heyyy, don't leave me behind!" Whined the Doppelganger, as it runs towards us. Just as it got close to us, fake elf screamed from the distance.

"Aruk!!"

"Die!"

With its plan(?) exposed, the Doppelganger disguised as April turns his arms into bladed whips and sweeps towards me, the archmages, Lylia, and the resurrecting mage. The three archmages instantly pull up their staffs and unleashes their pre-prepared spells.

The demon is first blasted into the air by an explosion of wind, tied into space by chains of darkness, then finally annihilated by a large spear of light, preventing the city from being damaged. The demon, a Doppelganger, is destroyed by the seamless cooperation between the three archmages, leaving no dust behind.

I can't tell if the mages are now stronger or weaker, but that demon is definitely the dumbest one I've seen. It helped me console the kids so I will acknowledge its effort him at least.
