I was born to a catherian woman and a male human. I have never seen my father face to face but I have seen his pictures and heard stories about him.
My mother was a former leader of her people until my father led an army to destroy them. My mother and several catherians were taken prisoner, and after some time my mother and father made me. By the time she realized that she was pregnant with me and my siblings my mother was already living as a slave on the planet Kadison.
I was born into a litter of 9 and only 4 of us made it onto childhood and when I was aged 9 years old the master found out that we were half-human hybrids. According to the laws of the empire, species are only allowed to find love within their kind and everything else is an impure attempt at shaking the family of mankind.
Breaking this law meant that both my parents would be sentenced to death while we were taken away by the government. A kind older gentleman with an eyepatch put me in a trash ship headed to this moon and separated me from my three brothers who were taken by the empire.
Upon my arrival here I met a human scientist who was more curious than anyone I had ever seen. He took me in and raised me as his own, teaching me medicine and the wonders of biology. It was through him that I learned that there was no scientific reason behind the empire's law on love across species.
We spent our days farming and our mornings meditating. He taught me how to protect myself in this place and also helped me make friends. However, since this is a moon filled with many hybrids the empire let people come around to hunt for sport. They did not command them to do so but they never them.
I remember 6 years ago me and a few others my age were gathered in a library. Outside the city, folk were preparing a party for us that will finally set us off into adulthood. The old human man, his name Ticky, was also helping with the preparations.
"Your daughter is finally becoming a woman old Ticky," Toby said to him. Toby was a former marine who came to live here due to having fallen for an alien, there was surprisingly a large number of them here.
"Haha, I can't wait for her to finally inherit my labs."
"That old piece of junk? You should bring her around my house earlier and introduce her to my son."
"Why would I want to do that?"
"Yeah, he should bring him over to mine. My boy is a chip off the old block, he can guarantee your daughter's safety." Dean said as he grabbed his son Dan and pulled him closer.
"You all are crazy. Can't you see the bigger picture? I want my daughter to see the stars, I want her to be the greatest scientist... No, I want her to be the greatest at whatever she wants to do." Ticky said before turning his back on the old men and taking off running.
He ran past our house which was connected to our labs and ran straight into the forest. This was an artificial forest that Ticky created to give the moon more life, there were many of them around the place. What most people didn't know was that in this specific forest the trees were real and they bore fruit that only Ticky had the knowledge to grow.
It was the cosmos fruit, the very same fruit that was wanted by all empires across the entire galaxy. These trees only bore one fruit every 10 years and most flowers on most trees never become fruits meaning even if you had an orchard full of them you may still only get 1.
Ticky had been proudly raising one for over ten years now. All else were failures but this one was able to stay standing thanks to his tireless efforts and determination. Once Ticky disappeared into his orchard a giant ship appeared in the atmosphere, it flew over the city folk and landed just outside the city.
The city folk were jaw dropped and shaking, chaos started and filled the streets. The word pirate became song and the young mothers carried their kids and ran around with them in their arms.
From the inside we heard the commotion and rushed outside, I was stopped at the door by Dan who grabbed my hand and rushed back into the library. I tired my best to fight him off but he was too strong.
He pulled me in and growled, I gave up and followed him behind the library. Laughter rose from the outside and I knew instantly that we were trapped, Dan however continued to lead me outside the library.
"Calm down, calm down you mongrels we are not here to kill you. If you cooperate." Big man who appeared to be a giant said. He was wearing clothes too small for his body and had a metallic left leg. His beard was braided and had two golden teeth in an otherwise desolate mouthhole. This was Captain Cobblefoot of the Silverleg Pirates.
"Since this is a junkyard me and my men are here to pick up a few scraps of metal, plastic, paper, and flesh. Whatever suits our tastes, nobody owns this place therefore everybody has claims to this place so please stay out our way if you so desire to keep your life." He burst out laughing after his statement, and his men began to snatch children from their mothers.
"What the hell do you think you are doing to those kids?" Dean said after punching one of the pirates down. They stopped what they were doing and tried to attack him. That is when Toby and the other former marines joined in to the fight with their weapons.
They shot and shanked down every pirate that attacked but they ended overwhelmed. Nobody died from the struggle and so the old men were tied-up in the town centre.
"I came in peace and respected your presence in this place, and this is how you repay me?" He chuckled and raised his head up. "SILVERS!" His men went into the city, gathered everybody and brought them to the centre.
"I have changed my mind about taking some junk and then leaving. I now want the most valuable items in your homes for each family memeber, and anything worth less than a gold coin will mean your death. If you want to save these old bafoons here then you will also have to pay a gold each for their lives."
