Chapter 56 - Chapter 55

Harley tapped his foot at the kitchen table. It was 6:05, where was Yoshi? The student sighs. He shouldn't care. It was only five minutes. Harley has been five minutes late before, this wasn't that big of a deal. But still, Harley wanted to see Yoshi. Well, not see. He didn't want to see him, not at all. Why would he?

His mother came downstairs, noticing her son's tense look. "What's wrong? Is it something bad?" She asked, placing a hand on Harley's shoulder. The boy quietly shook his head, but she didn't believe it. "What is it, girl problems?" She asked, smiling. Girl problems? He wasn't having girl problems, he was having guy problems. Actually, no he wasn't. He couldn't be. He's still trying to decide how he feels about Hisoki, no need to add other people into the mix. "Uh, actually Mom it's a-"

A quiet knock came from the door.

Harley scrambled out of his seat, running to the door. He took a breath, shutting his eyes before opening the door. He smiled at Yoshi, who had his backpack on one side, and his winter coat on the other. It was only October, but it was still freezing in Japan. Yoshi smiled, waving. "Here, it's cold." Harley said, stepping to the side to let Yoshi in. Yoshi walks into the heated house, hugging himself. Harley quickly shut the door after him. "Wow, so warm." He murmured, rubbing his arms.

Harley shrugged, grabbing Yoshi's black coat. He hangs it up, before walking back. "Come on." He mumbled. He could see his Mom peek out from the kitchen, only to hide back. He decided not to question it. "Let's just go to my room." Harley said, making his way to the stairs. He walks to his room, making sure Yoshi doesn't get lost. He had cleaned up his room a couple of days ago, which was good for him.

He opens his door, walking in. Yoshi gasped, sliding his bag to the floor and running to hop onto his bed. "What?" Harley asked, confused. He picked up Yoshi's bag, placing it on his chair. Yoshi quietly squealed, snuggling with a bunny plushie. "Stuffies!!!!" He yelled excitedly. He never knew Yoshi liked stuffed animals this much.

Harley had used to love stuffed animals, but then he grew out of them. However, mostly for nostalgia, he kept his favorites and placed them on his bed. "You can have one if you want." Harley offered casually. They were starting to invade his personal space, he was going to give ones to the thrift store, but this might be better. Yoshi cheered happily. "Really! You're so nice! Thank you!" He smiled. Harley only lightly shrugged.

"Come on, let's study for this test so you will stop failing." Harley approached the bed, taking the bunny plushie out of his hand. "You can take it home when we're done." Yoshi frowned slightly, but nodded. The brunette hopped off the bed, walking over and sitting at Harley's desk. The light haired boy crouched, watching as Yoshi reached for his homework. "This is it. I don't know why but it's like I wasn't even in class." Yoshi mumbled, suddenly ashamed of himself.

Harley looked at the homework. It was calculus. He had taken it last year, but that was mostly because he was more advanced than other students. He scanned over the already done homework. "Your answers are correct." Harley observes, flipping the paper over, scanning the other ten questions. Only one was incorrect, which was the limit of the function for continuous velocity of a star. These were difficult, even for him. "You did it all well, but this is wrong."

Find the limit using the following expression (no cal)

AV[0.5,1]=s(1)−s(0.5)1−0.5 .

Jesus this would have taken any college student a year to solve. Harley looked over the expression once more, before reaching to grab a pencil. He scanned through Yoshi's work. "This is a hard problem.." He muttered,, before pointing the end of the pencil at the formula Yoshi had used. AV|a,b]=s(b)−s(a)b−a. He smiled. Yoshi was stressing over nothing.

"You just put the numbers wrong, silly." He said, laughing. Yoshi tilted his head to the side, staring down at the paper. "I did? Oh." Harley erased the five, switching it with the one. "Ok, now solve it." Harley prompted, sliding the pencil over to Yoshi, who grabbed it. Yoshi was smart, very smart. He was just getting into his own head.

The light haired boy chewed on his lip, his hazel eyes scanning the paper. He seemed almost like someone from a manga, Bronze fluffy hair, obviously only combed. Yet he still looked perfect, his darker eyelashes curling. His nose and under his eyes were a soft pink, his lips rosey as well. He looked young, but not as young as Baker. His mannerisms, covering his paper slightly, the tip of his pink tongue poking out, all made him seem young.

Yoshi lifted his head, looking directly into Harley's eyes. He had a happy smile on his face. "Done!" He smiled. Harley hums, looking at the page. A: 0.4s B:0.8s. Harley smiled proudly. "That's right." He says. The darker haired boy stood, stretching. "Not to sound like a boring old teacher, but you're really smart. You were just thinking too much. With calculus, algebra, geometry, everything. It's just about procedure. Once you understand what to do, you're all done." He complimented, taking a step back. Yoshi had turned around to listen. "Thanks, Harley." He acknowledged, standing up as well.

"For what? The stuffed animal or the help?" Harley jokes, though Yoshi answered sincerely. "Both." He smiled. He placed his homework in his bag, keeping the bunny stuffie. Harley shrugged. "Oh, well you're welcome." He said. Yoshi thought for a moment. "How is basketball?" He asked, changing the subject out of nowhere. He had made varsity, and was a shooting guard. He smiled. "Actually, really well." He smiled.

Yoshi stepped out of his room, walking down the steps, Harley following. "Maybe we should go to a ame." Yoshi shrugged. "But fair warning, everyone might want to come as well." He said, laughing. However, Harley didn't mind it. "They can come." It would be nice to see more than just his family at a game. Plus, they were his friends. Just friends.

Right?

____

It was only when Harley went up stairs, his friend gone for the night, that he noticed something. A small, green bunny plushie laid on the desk. He smiled. Yoshi must have forgotten it. He stared at the plushie for a moment, before looking at the others.

He'll just give it to him tomorrow.
