Chapter 3 - A new path

The lady whose house is neighboring the flower shade, she's gentle, but very segregative, with the smile that she always wears, you never know if she genuinely means something. I was watering the flowers, when my mind drifted away.

" Irene, at what time will you be leaving, at 2 in the morning?" Wow, so sardonic huh,

" Ma'am Claire, I'll be leaving before noon.." she nods, and walks to her farm house.

Yeah am leaving, leaving this place, leaving this town, forever. Am going to find my fate.

Did I mention I was visiting an old woman who seems to read people's fate. Yes I have, for at least two years now. And she's always told me, I didn't belong here, and that, I'd never rest, even if I died a million times, if I didn't go find my fate, follow the path a head of me, and pay the debt I owe this world.

......

At noon, I was ready in the only cotton dress I have, it was given to me by my former master to wear at the Queen's parade two years ago. I'll be walking to the train station, that will take me away from here. No one is here to say goodbye, except for the little girl I used to babysit when I was probably sixteen, or fifteen. She's the only creature on this land that ever smiles at me with a genuine heart, I wonder if she were my mother in the previous life. She would come visit me sometimes, and keep me company, she's a good girl.

She doesn't even get a chance to come close to me before her father, the town doctor. He scowled at me and told the little girl to go back to the house. .

All the people looked through their windows looking at me exit the town, they must be very happy, They must be very happy, it's obvious in there silent remarks, I wish I was aware of the reasons for the happiness right now. I hang my head low and follow the man infront of me, he's got a huge back enclosed in a dark blue suit uniform, he's probably the captain of the ship that is taking me off this island. He is one of the most successful men on this floating piece of land, he was given a lot of lucky charms and blessings from the elders, just in case he got any bad luck from me....

On the ship, am seated all alone, three empty rows infront of me and the same case at the back, the other seats are crowded, and people are uncomfortable. At the front is a clock face and a calendar, it's when I realize it's 2001, am already twenty-two, or twenty-one, am not sure, it's quite funny right.

" Young lady, can you at least go to the bathroom so people can occupy this seat.." a firm ladies voice sounds, and I can't fail to recognize the disdain in it... I know, naturally, I reek of bad luck, so I don't mind if people don't want to be around me. I walk to the bathroom with no complaint, carrying my bag with me, it wasn't big enough to be put in cargo. All the people I found in the bathroom left the moment I got in, am used to that. I walk to the mirror and look at my face, even if I were one of those girls, I would also keep my distance, my scar is a bit scary, pale blonde hair and blue eyes, the house keeper hated them the most , but I know, I should look forward to what is in the city am heading to, it should be okay the moment I get there.

Last evening, the old woman told me, the moment I step my first step on the solid land, the path will be clear..., I breathe deeply but breathe when the door creaks open. A beautiful tall lady walks in and stares at me shorter than I expected. She walks to the toilet without a word, a short while later she's out and joins me at the mirror. That's wierd, no one ever gets close to me. She smiles at me.

" Don't freak out, it's too crowded in there, I figured this may be a lot spacious." Her voice is a bit deep, but her smile is welcoming. Her face is tender looking, she must be a rich family daughter, we may be the same age, despite her amusingly alien height. Her hair is made of dark brown curls running to the middle of her back. She's staring at me too.

" Sorry for staring, you just remind me of my younger brother, when I last saw him, he was as pale skinned as you, a lot frailer than you look, he was so thin and pitiful." She's smiling but sounds a lot sadder and her eyes are watering. She shrugs and looks away.

" How old is he?" I ask, just to keep my longest friendly conversation longer. She looks back to me with her face lit up, then she's smiling, I smile back.

" Oh, he's thirty, probably, if he's not dead.." she pauses a bit. " It's been long since I last saw him..., I don't know what he looks like now.."

" Sorry.."

" It's okay, am sorry for bothering you with all this.. issues, of my own." She laughs a bit. Before we continue our conversation, I almost fell back to the wall, she too, and again, this time I was sure of what was happening, there was a quake, or may be the ship had hit something, something big and hard.
