After a few slowly passing days: Rei, Heike and Hachioji; went back to Kyoto. Hachioji told me that she would call once they've arrived and she kept true to her word. I told Night that I didn't want to return to school. He said nothing about it, as a matter of fact.
It was a Sunday evening, when the angry exploded within me and so I just had to ask, "Are you trying to punish me?" He looked at me in awestruck. "Why would you ask me something like that?" He answered my question with yet another question. "The mere thought of putting me in a normal learning environment, is punishment enough! I'll never be able to use my abilities-" Toki thought it to be a joke. Night answered: "It really isn't all that bad." I arched my brows at him. SERIOUSLY! "Are you kidding me? I've always counted on my abilities, using it for the better good. It's more than you can say being married to a human!" I rolled my eyes at him. "The arrangements for your transfer have already been finalized. Their expecting you." I exhaled loudly. "Can't you arrange something else? Like for instance, doing my assignments from home and only show my face on exam days?" Slightly I bite down on to my bottom lip, hopefully he would see reason. "I'll ask the school board about it tomorrow, but I can't promise you anything." I gave him a little screech of excitement. The mere thought that he would ask them, is better than nothing. I straightened myself out. Toki burst out into bubbles of laughter. If Dawn weren't sitting in his lap, I might've punched his smart ass. Who does he think he is finding my situation amusing? A soft smile glazed my lips. I'm glad she gave him a second chance. They look great together. Obviously there's zero guarantees that they'll be together for life, but it's a start.
"There's something that I've been wondering about," I stated bluntly. "Yeah, and what's that?" He asked me as he sat down beside his wife, who had been complaining about contractions all afternoon. "How did Heike know the precise coordinates to your home address?" He rubbed the back of his neck. My question kept unanswered. "Does it mean that-" Quickly Toki interrupted me with a do not even think about it. A dam built up behind my eyelids. I can't help myself, I'm already thinking about it. I bite hard into my lip, trying to cancel it out. The rusty taste of blood seeping through the wound. Casually I stood up, turned around and left. Behind a close bedroom door, I came to a halt. It doesn't take Toki all that long to join me. "This had gone on for far too long. You can't turn into a pathetic bundle of heartache every time you hear- or think about him!" My friend scold me. I turn my attention towards him. My face already streaked with newly shedded tears. "Dammit, Scarlett! Perhaps I should send him an invitation to your brother's birthday batch. Everybody would be there apart from him." I gave him the most pleading look that I could muster at the time being. Feeling the way I do. "You should really work out your crap! I'm not trying to be vile nor am I trying to get under your skin, but this is nerve wracking." In the meantime Night too has approached us. 'I'm with Toki on this one. It seems that you have two options." I looked up at my brother, I'm not very keen in hearing either one of those options. He exhaled heavily before concluding: "Either we invite my old pal Yuuki or you simply forget all about him. There's a lot of fish in the sea." I couldn't believe my ears. How can he even suggest something like that?
Jessica's sudden call of help made my brother rush out of the room, stumbling over the threshold on his way out. In all of the commotion I came to the conclusion that Renski's water had broken. She's in labor. At a quarter to nine, a beautiful baby girl was born into this world. Midnight bought his wife along with the newest addition to their family home, Monday afternoon.
Pearl Nevada, has a head full of silky black hair. No wonder my sister in law had such a hard time with heartburn. The precious little thing, kept my tears away. The first few weeks passed quickly.
I sat in the living room, cradling my niece, when my phone notified me about an unread message. When I was sure that baby Pearl was fast asleep. I picked up my phone from the side table. I have one new voice message. Who could possibly be calling me? Why haven't my phone rang? I dialed the toll free number and followed the instructions. "You've got one new voice message. Recieved on the 23rd of March at 04:55 am." I looked down at my watch. It's already pass three in the afternoon. The signal isn't all that strong either. I put it back against my ear and listened:
Hey, stranger. Yuuki here. I've been having trouble reaching you. Guess you're still ignoring me, huh? Well, this is my queue- the train has just arrived. I'll see you tonight. We have to talk. Goodbye Scarlett..... You have no more new voice messages.
Then the robotic voice asked wither or not I wanted to delete the message or listen to it again. I just ended the call and threw the phone on the sofa beside me. It's like his voice just ripped me to shreds. My insides plumped into an uneasy manner. My heart sank into a dark abyss. His the perfect melody that's ringing within my ears. His image haunts the shadows of my mind. The desire to hold him, kiss him blurred out the guilt in my subconscious. It's overwhelming and it is turning my tables.
