"What's the matter with you? It looks like you might've seen a ghost," Toki asked as he walked into the living room. I just looked at him, I can not believe that he had actually invited him to my brother's party weekend. "Giving me the cold shoulder now, are we?" I sat, speechless. There's nothing to be said. "I see you've finally managed to get her to sleep. She sure can keep you up at night, but who can blame her? She's just to adorable!" He said as he made his way closer towards the crib and smiled down at the peacefully resting Pearl. Both Renski and Night were resting, so I had taken it upon myself to help them out. Their exhausted. I know that they both meant well, but they could've at least prepared me for the worst. Seeing him is going to take a lot out of me. How am I going to survive being in the same room as him? This is going to be a weekend that's bound to failure. Somebody's heart would be broken. I'm almost one hundred percent sure, it's a gut feeling. A woman's intuition is not something to be taken lightly. "Dawn, Jess and I are on our way to the party's reservation. There's still a few finishing touches that needs our attention. Are you going to be fine on your own?" I answered with a nod of my head.
Renski informed me that my brother goes all out for his birthday, every year. This year he's making a weekend out of it. So he has invited all of his friends to join him for a weekend in the mountains. The venue had already been paid for. A time filled with liquor, bonfires and bikinis. A crying baby for background music, wasn't altered to their weekend plans. If things tend to get to much for me, I'll just have to escape from the festive celebration and join Renski and baby Pearl. I don't know for how long I've been sitting, mummified, on the sofa when Night joined me. "We've decided to stay over at the venue tonight. Will you be okay?" I'm feeling like such a zombie. "Are you kidding me?" I choked. He shook his head. He picked, a now awake, Pearl out of her crib. "Rei, Sakura and the others would be arriving early morn'. Somebody needs to stay behind. You don't mind, do you?" I gave a loud disturbing laugh. Making myself sound like a nutcase. "Oh! Let me guess he contacted you. I can clearly recall you telling me that you ain't no kid. So handing him by yourself shouldn't be a problem." I made a strangling motion with my hands. He closed Pearl's tiny eyes and scolded me in a playful manner.
In the meantime, I stood and stretched my stiff limbs. "Everything is packed and ready to go," Renski said as she came in and took my niece from her husband. He looked down at his watch and said, "We should get going. There's some leftovers in the fridge, heat it up if you get hungry." His words didn't even have time to settle in when the doorbell rang. My sister in law makes her way towards the door with Pearl in her arms. I know who's behind the door. "Breathe!" Night advices me. A feeling of lightheaded and nauseous washed over me. I noticed him entering the house, long before I could actually see him. I plumped back into the comfortable softness of the sofa. Night is folding up the crib. They shared a moment and ended it with a handshake. I haven't heard a word.
He squads down in front of me. "Hey. I think I that perhaps you should think about breathing. Your going to hyperventilate." Yuuki's actually here, asking me to breathe. So close that I can practically touch him. I can smell him. Just the two of us alone. Nobody to interfere. When I finally inhaled, tears rolled down from my eyes. "Please don't cry?" He asked as he wiped a lone tear away. A wave of electricity brushed through me. He touched me. Quickly he pulled away. I could tell that he felt it too. "You don't have to say anything. I know that I'm the reason behind these tears of yours. It had been crystal clear from the beginning," he paused for a moment. "I'm in a relationship, Scarlett. She will disown us both if she knew that we're currently alone. Even so I would like you to hear what I'd've got to say." Yuuki took another deep breath, stood up from his squad position and sat down beside me. His touch burns my skin. "After you chose him, I've decided it's time to move on. You never seemed to take any notice in me. Who could ever love the cat, right? That's when I'd decided to date Violette instead. Knowing that she's the closest thing to you that I would ever get my hands on. A little bonus was added to the sum- she loves me." I crumble into a brittle bundle, braiding my fingers through my hair and cry. Why me?
