It has been seven years since I've last seen or spoken to my brother. Midnight Nevada, moved away after he had finished high school. Never to be heard of again. For all I know his number might be out of commission. I have to at least give it a try. To my surprise, the phone rang. I held my breath when a woman answered.
"Hello, this is Renski speaking." The person at the other end answered. "Hi, I'm sorry- perhaps I've dialed the wrong number." I told the stranger. "No, problem. Goodbye." She were quick to respond. "No, please wait before you go? This might sound bizarre, but do you by any chance know somebody by the name of Midnight Nevada? This used to be his number." I held up my breath hoping for some positive feedback. "Yes, in fact, his my husband. Now what do you want with him if I may ask?" Suddenly she sounds anxious and annoyed. "His married? I'm sorry, I had no idea. Would it be fine for me to have a quick word with him, it's extremely important?" I questioned her. Yet for some strange reason I don't think that she's going to oblige. "Listen up doll, I don't know who you think you are, but let me kindly remind you that he's taken for the long run. Everyone knows that my husband is a hot sensei, but you can keep your dirty little paws off of him. His mine.... Now kindly loose his number!?" With that being said she put the phone down on me. What a bitch? Okay, then again, I might have done the same if I was married to a 'hot sensei'. Sensei? Married? I would have never guessed. Unfortunately I really need to have a word with him. So I dialed his number for a second time, hoping that this time around he would be the one to answer the phone.
Two rings later. "Listen here you! If you don't loose this number, I will-" I smiled to myself and jumped into the conversation before he could finish. "Hello, Night! I guess your attitude still leaves little for the imagination?" He sucked in an all to noticeable breath. "Scarlett!? Is that you?" "Ah, how sweet? You still remember me. It sure has been a while, haven't it?" I asked a smirk clear on my face. "Apparently not long enough, though! What's wrong? Are you crying? Scarlett did something happen?" He always had the ability to read me, no matter how far apart we are. "I- I'm s- s- sorry," I spat as tears took over. As I snob and sniff, Toki took over as he waltzed into the room where the intern were still patching me up. Toki informs him about what happened and how I desperately need a big brother at the time being. A moment later he handed me my phone. He couldn't take me home, so he rented a room at the motel across the street. Throughout the night Toki had been nothing but a gentleman. He held me close. Consoled me most of the time. I feel like a porcelain doll: Timid, fragile and weak. Eventually I had cried myself to sleep.
The next morning, he surprised me with breakfast in bed and a kiss upon the cheek. Like we're an old married couple. He told me to eat up, so that I could build up my strength. Breakfast and a relaxing shower later, we made our way towards the hospital. Dad and Jess were sharing a room in the West wing. I could hardly believe my eyes when I entered their chamber and found my brother sitting beside our sister's bed. "You came?" I asked rhetorically as I walked closer. "Look at you- all grown up... time turned you into a fine young lady," he said as he gave me a hug. "Well, I'm not thirteen years old anymore," I told him a little sarcasm dusting my tone. "I guess not. Anyways, I would like you to meet somebody." Night caught hold of someone's wrist and dragged the person into view. "I would like you to meet my beautiful wife, Renski. Darling this is Scarlett, the sister I've never told you about." He introduced me to a petite young woman with a pretty swollen belly. I never even knew that he had a girlfriend and now I'm being introduced to his pregnant wife. It's a tad bit too much, but I'm not in the mood to give him crap about it. "Mom, never told me why you'd left. How many times I haven't sat by the window hoping that you would return. Now I see that you haven't even told your wife about me. Guess it's safe to say that I were the reason behind your absence." I'm not feeling too good at the moment. He cringed inwards, I could tell. I plastered a smile upon my face and turned my attention towards his wife, "It's a pleasure to meet you. I hope there's no uncomfortable feelings between us, for dragging you out here? It could have at least been under different circumstances, if it were ever to happen." Night rubbed the back of his head. Even the glance that Renski threw my brother had him on edge.
I exhaled Deeply. At that exact moment Toki entered and so I continued: "Night, I would like you to meet my boyfriend." I dragged him towards my side. Recognition bloomed across their faces. There's no mistaking it- they know one another.
