Night felt and the moon rose. Mei had long since stopped crying but she remained motionless in her little corner. To her it felt lonely yet comfortable at the same time. For the past three hours she had been sitting there in the same spot without any movement or sound.
Her tears had long since dried up leaving dried tear marks on her face that weren't visible within the dark alley. Her mind was empty as she dazed at the street from her little dark corner. Occasionally a car would flash by or a person would walk by.
In the silent alley the only sounds were of her occasional thoughts or the people who talk as they pass through. Moreso they were the occasional cars that screeched past or the beeping of cars surrounding the area. The alleyway itself was very quiet.
It was almost midnight and Mei looked up at the sky. The sky was now dark and flashing faint lights from the stars.
Looking at how little stars she could see because of the lights and tall buildings, Mei had only one thought.
'The world is too bright. It hides away many beautiful things.'
Mei started feeling a little melancholic as she stared at the stars. Perhaps she had been staring so high for too long Mei felt her neck hurt. She looked down and turned her head side to side before trying to relax into her corner. Mei was about to continue dazing into nothingness when she started feeling uncomfortable.
Her insides churned and she felt suffocated as the need to throw up grew within her. Perhaps to entail the contents, Mei tasted something metallic within her mouth followed by the scent of iron. Surely enough a second later when she vomited to her side, she caught a deep stench of blood.
Mei felt much better after that. She was surprised but also not surprised.
Lemongrass Tea was a drink that one could find in abundance in the small city of Yago in the country of Ocral.
The only reason Mei had a hard time finding this item was because she was seas apart from Ocral. The drink itself contained a plant that is banned within Casnus so Mei couldn't get the item. As she was a national agent she couldn't purposely violate the law. Besides, even if she managed to smuggle in the item if she got caught her whole life would end.
More than that, Mei didn't know how to access that city and that country. The plant needed for the Lemongrass Bliss was not rare. In fact, the plant Speckled Blade Lemongrass was quite common within the city of Yago.
No one knew of this plant outside of Yago. It was a common sacred plant with little to no medicinal value. The city of Yago was also quite rural and so were the people. The items they developed stayed within the country and were not official. The Lemongrass Bliss was one of the few drinks that they had but no one knew of its effects. They only drank it as a regular tea drink.
However, for Mei this Lemongrass Bliss was more than just some tea drink. It was something that would elevate the bitterness within her taste buds and help her detoxify the toxins in her body that would make her experience sheer pain every month for three nights.
The only thing stopping Mei from falling into another fitful vomiting session like the usual was the can of Lemongrass Bliss that she had earlier on. She had barely had much but it's effects were already so prominent.
The person who brought her this drink was very suspicious but Mei had an inkling as to who it might be. The specifics were a bit too unnatural to her but Mei had a feeling that it was 'him.' Perhaps because everything was getting related back to that country Mei resisted the urge to return to that country. She had already spent an entire lifetime trying to get over her past now it was her time. She would rather die trying than go back to that country and offer herself to the platter. Like a lamb put up to slaughter.
She was no dumb lamb.
Whimper
Mei's ears perked up at the sound. It was very faint but Mei knew she heard something. Glancing around she didn't notice anything amiss. The slight whimper had also come to a stop and the alleyway was back to being silent.
Since it was like this Mei decided that she would just leave, hence she got up slowly and wiped the corner of her lips where a faint trail of blood had been seeping through. She then proceeded to stretch a little to get her blood flowing. At least whatever remained of it.
Her body was swayed a little from the lack of blood and Mei also started to feel a bit dizzy. Nonetheless she still stood up and had taken two steps towards the main street when she heard another whimper.
This time the whimper was louder and it was soon followed by a weak knock on a piece of cardboard. Mei raised her guards high and searched around the alley with caution.
After searching around the numerous corners of the many cardboard boxes, Mei came across a little creature. Technically speaking it wasn't so little but it was small like the size of a two month baby.
The creature had its body curled towards itself. A dark pool of liquid surrounded the creature. Mei could faintly make out the two triangular ears on its head and the short looking snout of what she assumed was a dog. To be exact an injured dog.
Mei crouched down and looked at the 'dog'. Mei made no attempt to help it nor was she overly sympathetic about it. She just curiously crouched in front of the 'dog' waiting for more clarification.
Sensing no movement from the dog, Mei started to get bored.
Awooo hmmmmm
A wolf call that turned into a whimper…
So this was ….
A little wolf?
