Chapter 12 - 12. Harmless

Mei's soft breathing could be heard in the big and empty living room. A comfortable silence spread throughout the entire room as the time ticked by.

Sometime during early dawn of the day, Mei had her eyes closed while her mind drifted on to dreamland. The little wolf inside the cage had been on his guard until he could bear himself no longer and came out of the cage.

His eyes wandered to the little bundle of blanket on top of Mei. It looked very comfortable and it was also high up. A great position has a good view of the outside and the sunrise.

His body was injured but Mei had left the cage door open and there was even a sofa tramp angled in such a way that it was easily accessible for the injured wolf. Despite this, it took the little wolf a good few minutes to come out of the cage and start climbing the sofa.

After ten minutes of quiet torture the wolf had made it on top of Mei and after settling down he rested his head on top of his paws and hurled together while staring out the window.

The little wolf stared out the window lost in thoughts. His demeanor is exactly the same as Mei's when she was awake and staring at the night sky. The little wolf's bright greenish yellow eyes with a hint of bloody red specks sparkled brightly. His eyes were a bit watery and coupled with the slightly lost expression that he gave off made one feel sympathy for the little wolf.

Long after the sunrise the little wolf started feeling sleepy and couldn't bear to keep his eyes open any longer so he rested his head and fell asleep. All the while he never moved from his original spot that was on top of Mei's lap.

The bright morning sun didn't seem to disturb them and pretty soon after the sun rose, the built-in AI system detected that everyone was asleep so it tinted the windows automatically. Hence even at slightly before noon, the morning sun didn't manage to wake up Mei and the little wolf who had dozed off on the couch. The sunlight still shone and gave them warmth however, the AI had filtered out the brightness of the sun so that room was still dim.

The two of them sleeping together looked very peaceful and harmonious. Anyone who saw them at the time would think they were looking at a master and their most beloved pet sleeping together in harmony. No one would've thought that it was just a cold-hearted girl and a strange little wolf that the girl had picked off from the streets. More so they wouldn't have thought that both would be able to get along so well despite not having a proper talk or conversation since the first time they met in the alley less than twenty-four hours ago.

At half past twelve, Mei stirred in her sleep. Feeling the little weight and numbness on her legs she woke up slightly confused. The causes of her confusion were two different things. First off, why was her leg numb? She should be alone in her condo, so why? Her thoughts ran along the lines of there being an intruder inside her house but she felt nothing amiss. In fact the little weight on her lap felt warm.

It was present in her lap so it meant that whatever it was, it wasn't harmful. Also considering her abilities she surely would've felt any sort of ill intention coming her way even from a mile away but this weight was so close to her and she was still sleeping… then that meant that the weight was harmless.

Harmless…

When the word crossed Mei's mind she slowly opened her eyes and fixed her gaze at where the weight was. The few seconds of thinking she did had cleared her mind and she was wide awake. When her sight landed on a bundle of fur Mei instantly knew why her leg was numb.

Mei clearly didn't think it was possible for an animal especially of the wolf breed to be able to trust someone so easily.

Bah

What was she thinking? It was none of her concern.

Mei saw the sleeping little wolf and didn't want to disturb it's sleep so she carefully picked it up in her arms and moved her legs from underneath very carefully. When Mei lifted the little wolf, the little wolf seemed to have awoken and stirred. Its eyes opened and it stared at Mei with hostility. It bared its fangs, ready to bite and attack. Mei stopped her movement and stared hard at the little wolf.

Mei was planning to teach the little wolf a little lesson or reprimand it when she saw the gaze of his eyes relax. Within a second the little wolf was back to sleep and Mei was left in awkward silence.

She felt her eyes twitch as she thought, 'this little wolf has no sense of danger!' hmph what if it was someone else that had picked him off the streets?'

Carefully, Mei placed down the little wolf, who was unbothered and sleeping, onto the bundle of blanket where he originally was except now her legs were not underneath the blanket. With a quick last glance at the little wolf, Mei got off the couch and left for the bathroom to freshen up.

When she got back several minutes late, her hair was wet and she was donning a sports bra and some leggings. Her hair was tied up in a ponytail. Mei walked over towards the front of the couch and glanced at the food bowls she left at night.

Besides the little change in the level of water, Mei noticed that everything was untouched. Her eyes closed to tiny slits as an unknown glint passed through her eyes. A second later she looked at the sleeping little wolf. As she stared at the little wolf, no one knew what she was thinking.

Several seconds later, Mei turned around and left for the second floor of her condo where the workout room was located. When she entered the big room with all sorts of machines and objects, Mei walked towards the right where there was a mini break room.

The break room was basically a small pantry that Mei had designed for the condo. The walls were tempered glass with glass shelves. On each shelf there were little snacks and drink mixes. Since the break room was located inside a workout room, the snacks and drink mixes were all healthy and rich in calories.

Mei walked in and grabbed a bottle of water from the several other drinks that lined the shelf. She gulped down half the bottle before opening the fridge and taking out a cold water bottle and leaving the break room with both. There was an automated sliding glass door that closed after Mei left the room.

Getting out Mei finished the rest of the water from the opened bottle. She placed down the cold one on a corner near one of the workout machines and flicked the empty bottle towards the recycle bin located at the center of the room. The empty bottle accurately landed inside the bin even though Mei was more than four meters away.
