Chapter 13 - 13. Awooo!

Mei warmed up her body and gradually started exercising. Her goal was to increase the amount of blood in her body. Afterall with all the blood she lost yesterday and the upcoming monthly menstruation she would be living on the brink of death.

So for the next those Mei worked on breathing exercises and lots of high elevation exercises. By the time she was done, her whole body was aching and she felt out of breath.

As she started cooling down with a simple five minute walk on the treadmill, Mei heard loud barking coming from the living room downstairs.

Instantly Mei's eyes turned cold and she turned off the treadmill. Thinking that something bad happened to the little wolf, Mei rushed out of the workout room. She didn't bother about the sweat that dripped into her eyes as she walked nor the fact that she was barely breathing properly.

Out of instinctive caution Mei's footsteps were light as a feather despite her speed. As she silently got down the stairs, she saw a vigilant looking little wolf looking up at the doorknob of the main entrance. His entire body was a few feet away from the door but his body posture spelled out caution against whoever was on the other side of the door.

Clearly not expecting such a scene, Mei slowed down her footsteps. Her body also released a bit as she walked towards the little wolf.

"Little wolf." Her voice was calm and assuring. The little wolf turned its body to face Mei and started barking.

Awooo! Wooo awoooo!

Every few seconds the little wolf would glance at the door with a cautious and dangerous gleam. Lightly jumping about the little wolf Joey barking. From his body language, Mei assumed that he was telling her that someone dangerous was outside the door.

"Calm down little wolf. It's probably a delivery."

As if to counter her words, the little wolf started barking in a sharper tone. When he turned his head to face the door, Mei heard a low growl coming from him.

Mei slightly shook her head a little bit before getting closer to the little wolf. When she was a foot away from him, Mei bent down and picked up the little wolf.

"Awoo?"

The little wolf looked at Mei's face and turned his palm sized face to the side. His eyes filled with confusion.

There was danger outside the door and she wasn't listening to him. Now she's picking him up? What was she doing?

Mei glanced at the little wolf and felt the urge to tap his cute little black snout. Holding back the urge, Mei answered the little wolf's "question".

"Calm down, okay? Nothings going to happen."

At this moment Mei heard the light knock on her door. This wasn't really surprising as Mei had it known to the staff that no one was to ring the bell unless there was an absolute emergency.

With the little wolf carefully held in her arms, Mei walked towards the door. After quickly checking the monitor Mei opened the door.

"Good morning miss. I have your food here, may I come in?"

Mei glanced at the young woman staff who looked to be in her early thirties. With a clean and well pressed uniform the young lady had bowed to her when she opened the door.

Mei's eyes turned to the cart with steel lids covering several plates of food. Saying no word, Mei nodded her head and stepped aside to let the staff in.

The little wolf in her arms seemed restless when the staff entered her room. Before he could start barking again, Mei started to rub his head and distracted his attention.

The staff went to the right of the living room and entered the dining room that was divided through a decorative wall. The staff quickly and quietly started serving the plates of food.

When she was done, the staff turned to Mei. " Your food is served miss. Please ring the service bell when you're done with your food. I'll come back to take back the plates."

Mei let out a grunt in response after which the woman left. Closing the front door behind her.

Hearing the door click shut, Mei looked down at the little wolf in her hands. The communication between them thus far had been wordless. Nonetheless she couldn't deny the chemistry and comfort that she felt when she was with this little wolf.

As she was lost in thought, the little wolf also looked at Mei. He admired her beauty. From her beautifully shaped and well defined eyebrows to her upturned eyes were big and beautiful. Her white hair gently faded into a shade of black at the root of her hair. Despite it all being tied into a tight ponytail, the little wolf felt as though her hair was the softest thing in the world.

After a long while of silent staring, Mei felt awkward. Especially when she felt as though the little wolf understood her more like a human than an animal…

Clearing her throat, Mei brought the little wolf out of his daze. "Do you want to eat? You didn't eat anything last night."

"Awoo!"

Mei took his soft bark as a yes and walked with the little wolf towards the couch where she had left the food for the little wolf last night. Glancing at the bowl of untouched food Mei felt like the little wolf didn't want to do that so she turned her gaze back to the little wolf. "Do you want to eat something else? Is the food not to your liking?"

"Awooooo!"

Mei glanced down at the little wolf in her hands and internally face-palmed herself. Where did her brain cells go? The little creature in her arms was a little wolf! An animal! She on the other hand was a human! She didn't understand animal language! How could she understand what he was saying? Since that was the case why did she ask the little wolf questions when she wouldn't even understand the answers?!
