Chapter 1 - Reborn

A young man with brown hair and an average build was walking with a backpack on after having just left school. This was seventeen year old Dante, and had just experienced one of the most stressful days of his life as he had turned in his presentation that counted as half of his grade for one of his lessons.

He was on his daily walk home which would take around an hour, and he would get to spend the rest of the day playing games on his console with his brother, and then one of his parents would make dinner and he could sit back and relax after a hard day.

Dante had a happy life, and he couldn't have wished for a better family, as despite their occasional differences, they got along well and cared for him and they always had.

However, this happiness would soon come to an end, as Dante began to cross the road as the bushes on his side had begun to get too large to walk past safely. Unfortunately for him, as he started to walk across the road, a van driver was speeding without looking where he was going.

This van had a well known and lovable mascot character on it, and it seemed the van was for a company that hired out the suits. This van also had a large blood splatter on it, and a human shaped dent in it, as it had just smashed into Dante without him even being able to react.

The last thing he saw before his vision went completely black was the side of the van which had the stupid little pink mascot plastered all over it.

This however, was not the end for Dante, as his eyes opened once more in a strange environment that he was not used to. It was dark and smelt strange, and his body felt weird to move around in.

'I'm sure I just got hit by a car, is this Heaven or, God forbid, Hell?' Dante thought to himself.

He looked around confused, and all he could see with his vision, which was being blocked off by the shadows, was the stone floor.

With nothing else to do, as he was unsure if the area was even real, or if this was a hallucination before death, Dante began to walk around.

While doing this, the first thing he realised was that his line of sight was seemingly incredibly low, and he did not know if this was due to the area being very tall, or if he had shrunk.

It was too dark for him to check his own body, as he was moving around in what was essentially pitch black, holding his hands out in front of him to guide him in case he accidentally bumped into something.

This tactic was not helpful for what actually occurred though as, without warning, Dante fell into a pool of water and he began splashing around to try and get out. Eventually, he managed to grab onto the edge as his vision was starting to adjust to the dark land he was in, and by the time he was out of the water he was able to see almost as if he was outside in the evening.

He didn't know why his vision had suddenly become better, but he thought it may have been due to the shock of the cold water and as a survival instinct of his body.

Standing by the side of the water, recovering from the experience, Dante saw something very strange. As he looked down into the reflective surface of the now still water, he did not see his own body. Rather, he saw a cute and fuzzy short pink bear. He recognised this appearance as that of the mascot which was on the van that had hit him.

'Is this some sort of fucked up joke?' Dante thought to himself, beginning to get a little annoyed at the situation.

He tried to rip of the bear costume which was on his body, but to his shock and dismay, when he tugged at the costume, it did not budge, but it did cause him pain.

'What the Hell is going on here? Have I become a fucking mascot? I can't live a normal life like this.'

Dante was majorly pissed off now, and tried to think of what was happening. He wasn't a huge fan of anime and manga, but he had dabbled a bit when he was younger, and the events in certain shows were similar to his own life.

Someone would be hit by a truck or some other vehicle, and be reborn as a Hero with overpowered skills and abilities. In this case however, Dante seemed to have been reborn as a cute pink, bipedal bear.

One common theme in media such as anime and manga that Dante could remember was the existence of a system, or status that would either help the main character grow stronger, or at the very least display their status to them.

With not much else to do, and no other ideas, Dante felt it was at least worth a shot.

"Status"

He called out the word hoping for something to happen, to at least give him some idea of what was going on and where he was, and luckily, something did happen.

Dante's status really did appear in front of his eyes, although it was merely the bare minimum for a status, he was glad to see something familiar and he was even happier to see that he was really alive, and it wasn't just a dream. His status wasn't impressive, but it was at least a start, and he would try his best to survive and find a way back to his family.

This was a very simple status with not much on it, but it showed the development for growth, the only problem was that Dante would need to find a way to level up and evolve, and then hopefully go back to normal.

He closed his status, and began to walk, and as he could see things more clearly now, the world seemed a lot more open. The walls and floor were made of a dark stone material, and the large halls were constantly spanning off in different directions, almost like a maze.

After walking around for a while with nothing of significance happening, Dante came across what he saw as his first potential source of experience if his assumptions were correct.
