Chapter 1 - Mate

Laughter and music filled the room as people danced and drank to their hearts content. Bright purple LED lights kept the dark bar barely alight, the sickening scent of sweat and alcohol was in the air, I sat quietly in a small booth in the corner of the lively bar. I huffed while I stared at the half glass of whiskey I was sipping on.

"When am I gonna find him?" I swirled the glass around in boredom as I clicked my tongue. I put the glass to my lips and drank the rest of the malty liquid. My dirt brown eyes scanned through the dance floor, lustful humans were grinding against each other.

I sat my empty glass down and got up, I pulled my short white dress down, I knew that I shouldn't have let Leila pick my clothes tonight. I walked towards the bar and paid for what I ordered. "Goodnight Lynn. Hope to see you next week."

"I'll see if I can come," I waved goodbye to Xander, the bartender and walked out into the cold night. I looked up at the night sky, a week till I go into heat just like I thought. I walked towards where my car was, a citrusy scent hit my nose. My wolf, Aria, responded to the scent immediately.

"Our mate is here, he's close by, you need to find him." She exclaimed excitedly. "He's not. Ari. Its just the alcohol. Let's just go home," Ari whimpered but listened anyways. Unlike other wolves, Aria is a quiet and shy type of wolf, uncharacteristic for a werewolf. I got into my car and drove back home, ending the night like I do every Saturday night.

I walked up to Leila and shoved the dress in her face. "I am never wearing that again." A small blush on my face as I said that, Leila laughed and put the dress on her desk. "Did you hook up with anyone or anything at all?" Leila asked to which I slapped her hard on the shoulder. "I didn't, I just wanted a drink alone and nothing more." I rolled my eyes and pushed a stray strand of chestnut hair out of my face.

"Are you going to stay a saint your whole life? You're 21 for God's sake and you've never had a boyfriend or an one night stand so far." Leila pointed out in an annoyed tone. "I'm just waiting for the right person to come by," I admitted honestly, Leila is a human so she doesn't understand why I do what I do.

"I need to hand in my article to the chief editor, I'll chat with you later. Don't flirt with the janitor again," I warned her as I walked back to my desk. Leila is flirty when there's any male near her. She's a 5 feet and 8 inches tall woman with dirty blonde hair, her green eyes and rosey red lips makes her the most attractive woman in the building.

While me, I had eyes brown like dirt and dark brown hair. I am confident with my looks but my average 5 feet 6 body doesn't compare with Leila's curvy body, almost as breathtaking like the statues Greeks sculpted of the Greek goddesses like Aphrodite and Persephone.

I returned to my desk to get the article I needed. "Hope that geezer accepts this," I groaned and made my way to his office. Glancing at the article once in awhile, not knowledging anyone around me. A familiar sweet scent pulled me out of my trance. Ari perked up too, excited at the scent, but before I could go look I was pulled away by someone.

I growled at the interruption but the man who had pulled me away glared at me. "Lynn your article is late! I said to hand it in at noon and look at the clock!" Victor also known as the chief editor yelled pointing at the old antic clock which sat out of place in the modern office room.

"Its been 12.10, sir." I read the time out loud and held the article up to his face. "I was coming in to hand it in, sir. I've finished editing it and it is ready to be published." He snatched the papers out of my hand and skimmed through it.

"Charity? We're running a gossip magazine here Faelynn, I need drama, the readers need drama. This crap won't sell," he ripped the papers to shred. I surpassed a growl and just listened as he continued.

"I'll give you a topic to write about, Arthur Jude. He's young, handsome and loaded. There's sure to be gossip about him. You get two weeks or you're out." I bit back a snarky remark, how does this grey haired geezer expect me to get gossip on the city's number one bachelor.

"His assistant is in the office today, maybe you can book an appointment with him. Now scram," the man added and turned away to face his desk. I rolled my eyes and walked out of the musty office. I walked back to my desk, grabbing a cup of coffee on the way. Talking to that asshole gives me a headache someday and this is one of those days.

The sweet scent from earlier made its way into my nose, it smelled citrusy but sweet. It's intoxicating and delicious, something inside told me it was my mate. Ari wanted to take over and run to him but I kept her from doing so. I stood up and immediately ran in the direction of the smell.

My eyes locked onto a red haired male, he was leaving the office. Before I could reach him, Leila called me. "Hey Lynn, where you going?" I bit back another growl. Why is everyone stopping me from getting to my mate? "Outside, I'll be back."

I ran out but was only met with disappointment, the guy left before I could catch up to him. A whimper left my lips as I sadly walked back into the office building. What I didn't know then was that a certain red haired male noticed me and hid, masking his scent and appearance.

"Beautiful."
