The next day went by in a blur, Arthur and my parents had me accepted into the pack which meant I was no longer a rogue. I was introduced to the pack members who seemed to have welcomed me trustingly. It pains me to think I am going to break their trust and ruin the harmony of this wonderful pack. Luca was the only one was didn't fully trust me, he kept an eye on me the whole day.
I sighed as I get back in bed, I pulled out my phone and looked through the messages. Most were from work while there was one I dreaded. I put the phone down and stared up at the ceiling. Ari whimpered softly but said nothing. I debated internally, if I respond, I will betray this amazing pack and my family but if I don't, I won't be able to save Kai and I wouldn't need to betray these people. I can just come clean and confess.
I was almost about to get up and go look for my family but Kai's bright childlike face entered my mind. I couldn't betray him, I can betray anyone but not Kai. Kai suffered enough for me, from when we were kids he kept protecting me, caring for me and providing for me. I picked up and checked the text.
Unknown: Sanders, how is your situation there?
Lynn: I'm accepted by the pack
Lynn: You guys set me up knowing they're my family, right? How could you?
Unknown: Shut up or we'll hurt him. Do as you're told or we'll kill you and him.
I growled and replied with an okay. My hands are tied by their threats so I have to obey job no matter what they want me to. I gritted my teeth and got up, I rummaged through my bag that I got to pack and bring here a few hours ago. I pulled out a small vial of monkshood poison. "Here goes nothing," I stuffed the vial into my pocket and opened the door.
There in front of the door stood Aaron who looked like he was just about to knock. I put on a fake smile and asked him, "Hey there, were you about to knock?" I internally facepalmed myself, obviously he was about to knock or why would his fist be raised in a way that is used to knock on doors. "Yes, I wanted to talk to you about something important."
"I was just about to head down for dinner, we'll talk on the way down if that's alright with you." He nodded and moved aside allowing me to walk out of the room. I nervously put a hand into my pocket. "What is it you want to talk about?" I questioned and kept my eyes ahead. "I wanted to talk about mating, we finally found each other and I'd like to. I can wait if you want to."
"Can we wait, it's too early to mate and I'm don't think I'm comfortable with it. Do understand I'm not rejecting you it's just I think it's too early to mate, we just met each other and I'd like to take things slow." I muttered out as I kept walking on without turning to look at him. "I understand and I'll wait for as long as you but you should also know that I'm going to tirelessly pursue you, my lady." I turned around due to the nickname, he had a bright smile which made me hate myself for not marking him then and there.
I turned back around and speed walked to the dining room which was still fairly empty. I waved to Andrea, Luca's mate, and Jaclin, Arthur's mate. I walked into the kitchen where my mother and the pack's chef, Zara, were discussing and cooking together. My heart pounded in my chest and guilt swelled up in my chest.
"Mother, Mrs Zara, what are you guys cooking for dinner? " I asked fiddling with the vial that still sat in my pocket. The kitchen was filled with an heavenly aroma making my mouth water. "Wild boar stew, one of my best dishes." Zara smiled proudly and took the lid off of the pot. "Can I have a taste? It smells delicious, ma'am."
My mother held her arm in front of me, stopping me from walking closer to these pot. "Wait, my dear. The stew needs to be cooked longer. The boar they caught was apparently roaming near a field of wolfsbane. It might have eaten some so it's best if we let it cook a little longer." I nodded and started plotting silently. Right then, a kid entered the kitchen.
"Mrs Jude, Mrs Jude. The alpha is looking for you," Mother followed the boy out and I then got a brilliant idea. "So uhm, Mrs Zara. How's the pack treating you?" I asked with a smile on my face and heart full of guilt. "Oh they're wonderful, you will certainly enjoy it here. And you will too, you'll get treated better than how any other pack treated. I'll make sure to keep you well fed, I can tell how your previous pack might have treated you. Look at how skinny you are. Tell me what you like most and I'll make it for you."
"I really like meatloaf but you don't need to make it now," I protested feeling a little bad for making the middle aged woman cook something specially for me. "Oh no, I'll make it for you now miss. You're our missing princess and we want to make you feel loved. Let me go find Aaron to help me get the ingredients I don't have. Please keep an eye on the pot," I nodded as she took her apron off and hurried out of the room.
When I was sure she had left I pulled the small vial out, I looked around and no one was around. I opened the small vial and was ready to pour powdered poison in when something came over me. I involuntarily dumped the poison down the sink drain. My eyes widen at what I did, a loud growl left my lips as I punched the sink hard. I gritted my teeth and walked out out of the kitchen to the dining room where there was a few more members all getting the room ready.
Why is it so hard to get rid of this pesky and kind pack?
