She sighed, then out on a light smile on her lips and looked back at the female cop, and started answering.
An hour later:
Mantisha was chewing her thumbnail as she sat on the bench in the waiting zone. Her nervousness was clear enough to be noticed by a little boy, let alone the police officers. Sam looked at her a few times through the glass door.
Adi came out from the invigilators room with Arthur behind him. His face looked like a few layers of dark clouds prepared to pour rain anytime.
A few officers followed them out. The lady cop came out from the interrogation room too.
"How did it go?" The officers sitting outside rushed towards them. Sam also looked at them with a strange gaze.
"Well... She confessed everything. It was just like Miss Sen said."
The officers present there sighed in relief. Sam glanced back towards the glass wall and saw closing her eyes, Mantisha slightly leaning her body towards the armrest, seemingly tired for the events happened today.
"Mmm hm" The female officer said excitedly, "Not only that she even agreed to become an approver. She identified Miss Macy Carter to set the main plot and Mrs. Brown for shaming the victim for money. She told that she was the one in charge of telling the man and Mrs. Brown which dress she ruined, and then they acted without knowing whom they are going to trap or shame. She also confessed that she was agreed to become one of the pawns of Miss Macy Carter, then she felt guilty, and..."
"Where is the drug she mentioned?" Everybody looked at Adi as his threatening voice was heard.
Nobody dared to make a sound. It was like they forgot to answer.
Adi gave a glance towards Sam, but he was equally speechless. He saw in the video that the waitress got a pouch from Miss Carter but he did not have any idea about it.
Finally the middle aged officer came to their rescue.
"Mr. Roy, we assume it was some kind of aphrodisiac, but to know more, we sent a sample of the drug to the forensic department for further investigation."
Arthur was shocked. He looked towards Adi's dark expression as he thought he understood why he seemed so distressed earlier.
Sam was also shocked as well. He didn't understand why but he took a quick glance towards the waiting zone. His heart seemed to be in turmoil as the thought of someone drugging her.
"Give me a sample of that drug too."
The officers seemed to be in awe after hearing what Adi said.
"Mr. Roy, we can't..."
"Just a little bit of it will do. Arthur." He replied with such an authoritative tone which nobody could deny, then turned to his secretary and ordered,
"Make sure none of them gets bail easily. And that Macy Carter..." he fixed his eyes towards the interrogation room where she was and got silent.
Arthur looked at his frightening expression as he took a mental note of informing the franchisee and the board directors not to use her banners, flexes anywhere, to remove her traces from everywhere.
Outside of the police station:
Two girls were walking straight, but not side by side. They were clearly strangers but still, a slight rhythm could be seen between them.
"Why?"
Mantisha halted on her steps as someone someone asked. She glanced back, only to see the waitress standing behind her with a strange expression on.
"What?" She asked with a nonchalant attitude. Her voice devoid of any expression.
"Why did you lie im front of them? Why did you save me? When I also tried to harm you."
"Because you also saved me."
That waitress looked up and stared towards Mantisha, clearly shocked.
"What! I saved you? How!"
Mantisha's lips formed a slight smile as she looked towards a tiny peeble on the road. Then looked up and gazed straightly at her.
"I was saved, because of you. Because, you hesitated."
Eyeing her stunned expression, Mantisha smiled warmly at her.
"I know how it feels when you lost someone dear to you. I know how it feels when you open your eyes in the morning and the first thing you want to confirm is the safety of that person. I know how it feels when you spend your every single day in fear of loosing the ones dear to you. I know it all..."
Mantisha took long breaths to calm herself down. The flashing memories of the scenes of her nightmares were flooding into her mind. She really felt the desperation of ran to Sylvia and hold her tight, telling her not to leave her here in the world alone.
She was sure if her nightmares ever come out to be true, then after her parents' divorce, the scene of the accident won't happen anymore. That meant her father was safe, but how could she prevent the suicide of her mother! She didn't know that.
But the thing is, even after their divorce, her nightmares about the accident didn't disappear, but her agony and desperation are increasing day by day.
Leaving a sigh she looked back at the face of the waitress, only to see her wiping her face in a hurried way.
She smiled at her embarrassment. That girl, throughout the whole time, did not cry at all. Under so much pressure, she did not even break once. But just after remembering her mother once, her walls broke down. She truly loved her.
"Your mother must be very happy to get a caring daughter like you. I hope you will gwt the money of her treatment soon, but with a right way."
She grabbed her shoulders and rubbed a little, trying to give her a little bit of courage. Then waved at her, as she continued to walk forward.
But after a while, she turned back all of a sudden and said in a high pitched voice,
"Hey, I forgot to ask, what's your name?"
That waitress looked at her and waved her hand,
"It's Carrie."
Mantisha waved her hand back then started to walk forward again.
'I will remember this Miss Sen. Someday, I will definitely repay for your kindness.'
--------
I can understand Carrie.
