Chereads / DAWN (Tale of a Templar) / Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

"Note that upon your return, you will have husband awaiting you," Vivian's conniving voice stirred something in me. Something that I didn't think that I had the mindset for.

I pushed it down and turned with a smile.

"I will miss you dearly, Reysh," I said receiving an encouraging smile, with that I entered the limo. I smiled at the poisonous glare Vivian gave me.

At the end of the day she was always looking out for me, in her...own way.

I sighed and glanced in front of me to the couple holding hands.

"I'm sincerely sorry," Isaac immediately said.

"No need for apologies. The heart wants what it wants," I said calmly.

The girl regarded me with a skeptic look. I resisted the urge to laugh. She probably thought that I was secretly plotting my revenge. Revenge was a poison with no cure, why would I deliberately poison myself just as my father did.

"I am Dawn," I said kindly extending my arm out. It was a human tradition to shake someone's hand, was it not.

Isaac cleared his throat. "This is Melissa," he answered instead.

So I guess she also wanted to be traditional in that way too. I tilted my head slightly as she shuffled closer to his body and hide her face in his clothing. I furrowed by brow and turned to the window, feeling a sense of relief rush through my veins. I was free, not for long but nonetheless. I would cherish these last days of freedom that I have left. Have fun as the humans may say.

I nodded to myself and smile. Nothing will stop me.

It took a while but eventually we finally arrived at our destination. Cloust, I believe the welcome sign had said. A decent size town located at the heart of a very large forest. The scent of rain hung in the air and the moist earth clung to my shoes.

From where I stood before a beautiful Victorian style mansion, the tips of trees could be seen. I glanced around and notice a few wondering eyes hidden within the safety of their homes. Bodies hidden behind windows and curtains. I frowned at the faint scent of anguish.

"Not grande enough for you," a snappy voice said.

I raised a brow as Isaac's mate shuffled past me, struggling with a few bags. She did not like me much.

I turned to Isaac.

"She's jealous," he said softly glancing at his significant other.

"Of what," I asked with wide eyes.

"You," he said as if I should already know.

"Me, but she's your soulmate," I said with a soft chuckle.

"Thats outrageous," I continued, as I ascended the stairs leading towards the front door.

Isaac and I were close but when it came to the bond of a mate, our relationship was next to nonexistent. Mates couldn't lie to each other, nor stand to be next to anyone else.

"Wow," I said aloud as I stepped into the house.

It had a dark, ancient theme to the decor. Something familiar and eccentric. I fell in love instantly with the red and black colors and the double stairs was just right It was homey and a bit of fresh air as opposed to the yearly remodeling castle that I was stuck in.

"Princess Dawn," a familiar husky voice said.

An instant smile appeared on my face as I turned. The bearded face of my old friend, Angelo graced my eyes.

"Angelo," I said as I throw my arms around his neck. His thick arms wrapped around my middle like a belt. I squealed as my feet left the floor. It was a strange sound that I didn't hear often. Not in a solemn environment such as the castle, where all everyone ever does is gossip and cheat.

"You have gotten thinner," he said his voice thick with his Hispanic heritage.

I rolled my eyes and shook my head.

"Nothing I can't fix," a feminine voice said.

My heart stopped and I gasped at the wonder before me. I glanced from Angelo to his wife and back again. Angelo chuckled heartily.

"As you can see I have accomplished my goal in this world," he said proudly with a huge smile on his face.

I walked slowly towards his wife and knelt before her swollen stomach.

It was rare for vampires to reproduce and even then the parents had to be pure bloods. A species of our kind that was purely born of magic. Magic which is dormant but nonetheless there. It ran strongly through their veins making them stronger and faster than normal vampires.

"I take it your of the blood," I asked staring into the petite blondes eyes. Her dark brown eyes avoided my stare.

I glanced at Angelo, who scratched the back of his head.

"She's half human," Isaac replied from his position beside his mate.

With wide eyes, I stared at Angelo's wife.

"May I," I asked. She immediately nodded her head.

There were a few purebreds who held a trace of active magic. We were the ones who stayed true to the earth. We made a vow to purity and all things good. We follow a different tradition and in exchange we are gifted with a taste of power that we cherish.

I placed my head on her bump and gasped. My eyes rolling to the back of my head, I fell backwards. Flashes of images came and went but there was a picture that stood out and was continuous. My mind went blank.

A throbbing pain went through my head, my throat was dry.

"What did you see your highness," Angelo said crouched before me.

I blinked at him confused, then glimpsed a familiar face behind him.

"Hayley," I said joyfully.

She smiled and gave a small unenthusiastic wave.

"She's sad, her request for an aging potion was denied," Angelo explained.

"Its best left unknown," I whispered to him. My vision was something that needed to stay hidden for the future of everyone.

Angelo nodded sadly and I squeezed his shoulder lightly.

"As for you missy, I have something that I think you would like," I said with a smile as Angelo helped me to my feet.

Hayley tilted her head, intrigued.

"Your going to have to flash me a genuine smile first," I said coyly.

Hayley and I had bonded on one of her visits to the castle. She was frozen in the body of a fourteen year old and she ached for a more mature form. An aging potion was a neat little trick that the witches had created to help the vampires as a gift of the World Order Treaty. It came in handy when questions would arose with the humans.

By the look of things Hayley hadn't seen the outside world for a while and with the war among the wolves, the council was distraught. Wolves fighting among themselves for power meant that, the other kingdoms needed to pick a side for if one kingdom fell they all would.

The supernatural world could not stand to let that happened. The faster this war is finished, the better it will be for everyone.
