Something is fishy was Enya's first thought when she arrived at school and noticed that the spot between Jest and her every flag ceremony is still empty. Xavier was usually the earliest among the group of friends since the boy did not want to spend much time in their mansion especially during weekdays as his father and brother are both at home.
Enya wondered if a fight between her friend and her friend's father was the reason for Xavier being late. The girl knew how much of a perfectionist can Xavier's father be sometimes as she once saw a situation that proved it once when they studied together in the latter's house.
"Jest," The girl pulled her other friend's shirt. Jest turned to her, stopping for a moment from finding a new potential target to flirt with.
"Yeah?"
"Where's Xavi? Did he ride his Porsche today? Isn't he supposed to be here already?"
Jest raised his left eyebrow at the girl skeptically. "How am I supposed to know, princess?" He yawns. "Besides, he's a big boy. He doesn't need your constant worrying and babying."
Enya scowled at him. "I am not babying him!"
"Sure you aren't," The boy nods mockingly at her.
Enya rolled her eyes at the boy but didn't bother to respond. She learned from an early age that being friends with her two idiots meant that whenever an argument starts between her and Jest, she immediately has to concede. Arguing further is pointless since Jest always wanted to have the final say. It's the attorney in him speaking, Enya remembered him say.
The girl turned around to check the entrance gate. Still no sign of her friend. She also thought of the possibility of Xavier being stuck in traffic. However, there is a low chance of traffic as it was still early in the morning.
Enya lets out an embarrassing squeak as she remembered how she lived two blocks away from their university which enabled her from arriving at school easier than most. Jest noticed this and laughs, making the girl hit him in the shoulder.
She continued her search by looking at the students entering the gate but immediately scowled upon seeing a familiar face. Realizing it was the dork, the girl's mood immediately worsened. She was about to turn away from the boy's annoying face when she noticed someone familiar behind him, casually raising the boy's bag as if to lessen the bag's weight.
What in the actual fuck, she thinks, even blinking twice for she cannot believe what she is currently seeing.
It was Xavier. Xavier with glasses, the girl notes. However, she knew that her friend never wore them outside their study sessions. Enya wondered if her friend hit his head or something as he suddenly had the thought of wanting to look like a nerd instead of looking like a young CEO as usual. Nevertheless, she can't deny he still looked good.
Enya smiles at the thought. Of course, he looks good, she thinks. Enya simply does not settle for less!
The girl was about to wave at her friend when Jest suddenly pulled her to his side with a grin. "Hey, what's up with Xavi and your enemy of the state? Looks a little fishy to me,"
The girl's mind told her to respond to Jest's remark but her mouth refused. Something is weird, she thinks. The current situation did not just manage to make the two confused, as it caught the attention of the rest of the students currently present for the flag ceremony. The appearance of the nobody and one of the most popular guys in the university made a lot of students raise their brows and gossip openly.
However, some were more focused on Xavier's new appearance. Enya even heard someone whistle, and as the girl expected it was Medea. The resident weirdo and the dork's only friend in the whole school. Enya definitely thinks it made complete sense how a dork and a weirdo are friends. They should date, she thinks and laughs.
The laughter of his friend made Jest look at her with confusion on his face. "Are you plotting something evil again?"
"What do you mean again," Enya checked her phone as it vibrated. A text from her Mum. I'll read it later, she thinks as she pocketed her phone again.
"You have a weird expression on your face just now," Jest tried to copy his friend's so-called weird expression but failed, making her chuckle at his silliness. "Okay, I can't copy it. But you get what I mean."
Her eyes found the dork pushing her best friend away as if annoyed but his flushed ears said otherwise. So he likes him, Enya grins at this. Her grin grew even wider as she realizes that the dork might already be falling in love with her best friend.
Now the girl knew how to get rid of the pest.
"I don't like that smile," Jest comments.
"You should," Enya grins even wider than she thought she could while already thinking of a formidable plan inside her head. "You definitely should."
°
Recess time. Enya thought that the first three subjects of the day were boring since all her professors did was discuss the topics she had already read before going to school. As if she'll allow herself to be left behind when it comes to her lessons.
Xavier sat on her left, his eyes once again on the dork, who was once again satisfied with drinking a cup of coffee. Enya noted how the dork even seemed to like drinking the vending machine's coffee and gags.
The vending machine coffee sucks. Sometimes it's too bitter, and sometimes it had ants. It disappointed Enya when she first purchased coffee to try it and experienced the latter. She thought that the tuition they required students was worth it, but apparently, it was not.
Enya rolls her eyes at the thought of the dork not having to pay anything as he has three scholarships that cover his entire tuition. She wonders why he even decided to go to their university when he could have just chosen a less expensive school.
Now she has to study even harder to remain at the top spot!
"Xavi," She tugged her friend's shirt, effectively stopping the boy from staring at the dork.
He turns to her with a small smile. "Yeah?"
Enya honestly had no idea if the smile is for her, or because he spent almost five minutes staring at the dork. Whatever, she thinks. "I have something to tell you," Enya glanced at their surroundings. Everyone looked busy but she can't be too careful. "Not here, though."
Xavier's brows furrowed. "What's wrong?" The boy asked, his voice laced with concern.
The girl eased him by waving her hands. "No, no. It's not about me," She internally wanted to tell him her plan all at once but stopped herself. "It's something else. Come on, let's go to the rooftop--"
Her Xavi frowned and whispered. "Are you going to confess your feelings to me?"
Enya pushed him away, disgusted. "What the hell? No!" Her outburst made some students look at them. She glared at them and dared them to say anything. Her actions immediately made the students go back to their own businesses. "What the fuck, Xavi? Of course not! The rooftop's just the perfect spot to tell you what I want to say."
Xavier looked at Jest, who was at another table. "Should I call Jest?"
"No," Enya fought the urge to grimace. Jest would definitely disagree with her plan, or if he agrees the boy will end up teasing her all day, saying that it's for her own benefit, which is true but not in the way her friend assumes it to be.
Xavier nods and then stands up. Enya stood up as well after finishing her pizza slice.
Shortly after walking, the two friends reached the stairs to the rooftop. Enya pushed the door open and stared into the beautiful view for a while. Xavier kept silent behind her, as he was checking something on his phone. Enya was pretty used to his silence since they were kids, but now it's sort of peculiar.
"Hey, Xavi?"
The boy looked up from his phone. "Yeah?"
"What's with the sudden change in your appearance?" She teased, lightening the mood.
It was successful as her friend smiled and touched the rim of his glasses. "Nothing special. I just saw it in my room and decided to wear it."
Enya raised an eyebrow and fought the urge to roll her eyes. As if, she thinks. Who is he even kidding at this point?
"Is it because of the dork?" Enya decided to ask bluntly.
The girl noticed how her friend's expression turned into a disgusting one he had when he was on his way to gates alongside the dork for a split second. Her friend immediately hid it from her with a frown too fake in her opinion. Enya pretended to ignore it and stared at the view of the city again.
Silence enveloped the two for a while. It seemed like it will stretch on longer if the girl won't say anything. However, she wanted him to say something first so she can confirm her suspicions.
"Why?" Xavier's reply was short and had venom on it, despite the boy trying to conceal it. Enya noted to herself how she sometimes knew him better than he knew himself so she easily realized her friend was getting tense at the sudden topic.
"Nothing," She turned to him with a playful smile. "Can't a girl ask her best friend?"
"You hate anything related to him. Why ask if I'm interested in him, then?"
Enya licked her lips and turned away. The girl can't let him see her playful grin. He's obviously starting to get mad.
"Well,"
The girl suddenly walked close to the taller boy, enough to lessen the gap between them, and touched her friend's furrowed brows with a smirk. "Seems like I already know the answer to my question."
The tall boy looked torn between getting angry and remaining impassive. Enya let the silence stretch again before she spoke,
"Can you do me a small favor, Xavi? It's something so small, you don't even have to exert much effort,"
The girl paused for dramatic effect. What can she say, she did love seeing his impassive face turn into one of curiosity and perplexity. It's not every day her friend changes from being robot-like to suddenly losing control of his emotions he tries so hard to hide from everyone.
Enya's lips formed a devious grin. "Make the dork fall in love with you," Her friend's dark blue eyes widened. "And when he does, break his heart so severely that he decides to drop out, leave everything, and never, ever come back."
