Indeed, Albert was in a crabby mood. And Kyla learned that when he was crabby, he was bossy to a point of rudeness. 

She had made the mistake of heading to his office before Chief McCarthy's and found him barking at someone over the phone. He eyed her as I hovered at the door.

He snapped his fingers and pointed to a sofa. Her brows furrowed at his over-the-top gesture, but she sat down. He paid no attention to her. But she was aware of him. She watched as he vibrated with irritation on the phone.

An officer came in to go over some documents with him, and Kyla stood up to leave.

Albert scowled at her and said, "Sit."

"No," she said bluntly. "I have a lot to do with my time and sitting down here, like a couch potato, isn't one of them."

"We have a meeting with Chief McCarthy. He's on his way, sit."

Her mouth pursed, holding in indignation as she sat back.
