Chapter 24 - Twenty-four

Albert stood on the banks of Lilago--a river which cut across Glasgow Creeks and the neighboring towns. The temperature had soared to a hundred and two, with the air so thick it felt as if you could grab a fistful and wring it out. He wiped his damp face with a bandanna and squinted at the sky. It was a pale blue, bleached by the merciless white sun. 

He imagined himself taking a swim in the beautiful river to help cool off the heat of the afternoon. The picture helped a little, but it was a luxury he couldn't afford now. Some men in town--a select few, and members of the police department had broken out in groups, searching for the missing bodies. 

It was approximately eight hours since the bodies had been declared missing, and approximately five since the search for them began. News of the tragedy was slowly but surely reaching everyone in town, and it was only a matter of time before it got to their screens.
