"You killed him…. Who are you? And what are you? Why do you talk like a human when you're clearly a zombie!?" the girl shrieked, as she jerked away.
As the teenage lass waited for my reply, the woman reached out for the gun. That firearm belonged to the man who threatened the two of us if he was still alive. Her eyes glanced at the weapon, hinting that the girl would eventually take it to her hands.
"I am hungry, and that guy looks tasty! I know it sounds weird, but I became a living zombie!" I answered, and pointed my hand at the girl's arm. "And what do you think you're doing? I killed the man because he acts like a total maniac. Don't tell me you're a pervert too!!!.... Are you, perhaps, into zombie-porn?"
The girl heard my sentences but chose not to reply. That lass even had a cloud of question marks on top of her head. It only meant that she could not accept our circumstances.
I still had my handgun clipped in my hand, even when the girl reached out for the firearm. That woman had her eyes leering at my weapon, wondering how a zombie could wield a gun. However, instead of threatening the frightened girl, I just lazily aimed my gun at the woman.
"Whatever you plan on doing, don't do it. Believe me, girl. I cannot die. Not even Hitler can kill me," I warned, and prepared my fingers around the trigger.
But the girl disregarded my advice and pulled the trigger from her gun. It was bold of her to do that, especially after hearing my warning.
A bullet came right after the gun's barrel, which flew straight in my direction. Time stopped for me when the shell finally came near my eyes.
As luck would have it, the shell went directly to the centre of my face. Just like the guy I killed earlier, my head exploded like a bomb that got detonated. Within a few seconds, my body lost a head.
Instead of dying and falling on the ground, the torn skin attached itself. It almost looked like creeping vines rushing towards my head, stitching it into anew. They regenerated on their own and formed my head once again.
After a moment, my face morphed itself back like rubber bands refusing to cut themselves in half. It was also like someone had cut a jam using a knife. But that fucking food refused to split into two parts.
My regeneration was no joke, especially when it healed both my eyes and the skull inside my body. I felt nothing at all, even after detaching myself from the cursed bullet.
Despite this effect, I still regenerated like the opponent I faced before. It was an ironic turn of events, especially when I nearly got crushed into pieces by that enemy.
"What's in the ale I drank from my car? Man, that hit me hard! And that bullet should have pierced a hole right through me. Why the fuck did that explode my entire face!" I yelled, with my hands raised above my head.
The girl gaped her mouth open as she watched the scene unfold before her. It was like an action scene, starring a lunatic zombie; me. If I were in her position looking at a zombie regenerating its limbs, I would have also pissed my pants.
"Impossible…. Why aren't you dead?" the lass asked in disbelief.
That woman stepped back and tried firing her gun once again, only to find out that it was all out of bullets. The shell a while ago was the only bullet left inside the firearm.
It was just like the hoodlum stated before. All the man had was just a bullet inside his gun, which he even used to threaten this girl.
"Isn't that the whole idea? I'm a zombie. An undead creature that turned back to life. Why the hell are you so confused about it?" I asked, and shook my head.
The girl stuttered some incoherent words as she heard my voice. It was as if this was her first time listening to someone speaking elaborate words.
"Hello, girl? Yoo-hoo! Zombie to human. Are you mentally present, or are you already physically dead…. shock, even?" I screamed, hoping to catch her attention.
The flabbergasted woman quivered her head for the nth time and met my eyes. She finally digested the occurrence that a zombie continued talking to her in a peculiar tone.
"Thank you for saving me…. But I'll be on my way to save my brother in the other room now," the girl confessed, as she shuffled her way towards the door.
There were hints of hunger enveloping my mind while we had this conversation. But I juggled my thoughts and answered the girl. My whining stomach could wait for later, since using this girl as my pawn was my goal.
"I didn't save you. You just so happened to be in my way. And I need you to look for something for me," I exclaimed, while nestling my hand on the girl's shoulders.
This girl was nothing in front of me. Although she had the looks of an idol with those melon-sized breasts, I had a girlfriend waiting for me somewhere out there. I just needed to charge my goddamn phone and carry on with my life.
The lady vibrated her body as soon as she felt my hand resting on her shoulders. When the girl turned around, she met my eyes staring dead serious in her direction.
"What do you want? And I need to save my brother before accepting your terms," the girl croaked, while gulping a lump of saliva inside her throat.
"Tell me where the generator is. Or do you know any place where I can charge my smartphone? I need to check something important…. You don't have to know everything," I said, and cut off the latter part of my sentence.
The girl fell silent for a few seconds before giving me her reply. And when the woman finally gathered her courage, she stood parallel to me and answered.
"As soon as you help me rescue my brother, I will do what I can to lead you to that place."
"Where is your brother, anyway?" I asked. "Is he somewhere along these hallways? Is he like hiding somewhere?"
I did not want to pry for any unnecessary details about this girl and her family. All I cared about was the location of that electrical outlet this woman knew. And it would be easier for the two of us if this girl's brother was inside this building, not somewhere out there.
The girl pointed her forefinger in front of her and replied, "He's over there, hiding inside that room. But those zombies outside won't let me out. I don't know how to fight them. And the guy you killed earlier was the one who drove me into a corner. After telling me to give my body to him in exchange for saving my brother, I slapped his face as hard as I could…. He didn't like it."
"So your brother is right over there….."
If I remembered correctly, this hall had three doors, including the one we occupied. We did not even have the time to explore this place, since we needed to save this girl's brother.
With that being said, I nodded at the girl and accepted her offer. I was this desperate to charge my phone and read the messages sent by my girlfriend. We did not have any time idling around, since there were still undead beings outside those gates.
After our exchange, the girl placed her hand on the doorknob. But when the door creaked a sharp sound, I immediately slammed the door shut again.
"What's the big idea?!" the girl shouted, but I covered her mouth, using my hands in the nick of time.
"Shut your goddamn mouth for one second. There's a huge fucking spider wandering around that hall! If you want to die, don't bring this zombified corpse with you!" I exclaimed, while keeping a low profile.
"Spider? What do you mean a spider? I have seen nothing like that before. And here I thought you're talking about that horde in front of us," the girl whispered back, while pointing her finger at the door's window.
"What do you mean by horde?"
"That horde…."
"Oh…. that horde."
Those groups of zombies were not there when I first arrived here. But after a few minutes, those zombies appeared like spawned enemies inside a game. After leveling up, each of those zombies had levels on top of their heads. There was also a title beside those levels, indicating that they were zombies.
Now that I had mentioned it, nothing made sense out of this occurrence. I didn't even notice that classification when the spider chased me down. Well, I was running for my life when that bug chased me around.
And when I turned my eyes towards the girl, the system told me that she was just a regular human. It even described her as a duck out of any metaphor it could use in the dictionary. This girl remained blank-faced when I killed the man and the horde approached. But deep down inside her heart, this girl might have already pissed her pants.
