A box wiggled as if it was a living object…. or something alive was inside of it. I didn't know, since this was my first time arriving in this place.
The girl and I pasted our eyes on the box, unsure what was inside. But since the box's actions coincidentally happened right after the girl mentioned his brother, this woman walked towards the carton.
"Touma? Are you there?"
When the girl mentioned a name, the box burst open, revealing a figure standing inside. The shape of a young lad free from wounds greeted our eyes. As the girl recognized the boy, she immediately went towards the little kid and hugged him.
My body jerked and moved towards the girl, since I expected a sinister outcome. Usually, films and other movies would show these scenes, and the one who appeared had the virus. As soon as the person approached the sudden appearance of their recognizable friend or relatives, that person would immediately hug that individual.
But all the people knew what would happen next. That person concealed the virus and would bite that approaching individual. And then shit would happen.
However, that did not happen. The boy inside the box did not have any bite marks on his skin from my view. And according to my system, that boy remained as a human being, with that title linked beside its name.
The game-like descriptions saved me some time to know if someone got the virus or not. If we ever meet a human who recently has the virus, I could guess that the title would change. My system could rewrite that "human" word into something like "infected", which would give me the upper hand.
Despite the system's descriptions, the boy had grazes on his shoulders and cuts on his forehead. Fortunately for him, that brave kid did not have the virus even after receiving those injuries.
"Touma, I was so worried! What happened to you! Are those wounds deep? Were you infected with this zombie virus? Please tell me you're feeling well and not turn into one of them…." the girl cried, while squeezing the little lad in her arms.
"No, Onee-chan! I avoided those zombies and hid inside this box! I got these wounds when I bumped into that wall!" the little kid, Touma, explained, as he pointed his fingers at the weirdly constructed wall.
I did not know why, but that distorted surface had something to do with the engineers who built this place. There was no point in digging for this problem. So I let it swoosh away like the rest of my responsibilities.
And the kid mentioned that there were people inside this place, even before I had arrived. This pile of dead bodies was mostly likely the humans the boy described, which met their unfortunate fate from those undead creatures. Luckily, none of them turned into a zombie and came looking for the kid.
The scene of these siblings was a wholesome event that would make real men cry. However, I would love it if this could happen sooner than right now.
"Guys, I know you're brothers and sisters, but we have a situation here. Unless you want to die, I suggest you should get your ass up and move your booties!" I shouted, while dragging these relative's shoulders towards the door. "Hey, kid. If you're from here, do you mind telling us the way out?"
"You're with my sister, so I think you're a good stranger!" the kid exclaimed, as he raised his arm. "You mean the exit? It's right there in the middle."
"I'm just a good man, since I need your sister right here for an electrical current. If I weren't, I would've eaten her…. literally and metaphorically," I retorted, and flashed the woman a snicker.
"Pervert."
With one word coming from the girl, my heart compressed itself to death. It was a good thing that I was a zombie. My decaying body didn't need any organs to function. I even doubted that I needed these vital organs to be a zombie.
Once the boy pointed his fingers at the door, the zombies from behind breached inside the room. The three of us had no other choice but to move towards this middle door that the boy recommended. I didn't even have a hint of doubt when the kid told us that. If this young lad gave us the wrong exit, the young boy with his sister would die, while I would roam free.
These three doors also had zombies inside of them, banging their heads across the window. We never heard these bastards from the insides, not until now that we had a closer look.
I barged straight inside the middle door and fired my gun at the two zombies inside. After pulling the trigger, four bullets entered the zombie's head and chest. However, even after exploding their heads, the zombies moved on their own accord.
"The fuck is shit?! Nobody briefed me about zombies without their heads! Years of academy training wasted!!!"
(Author's note: That line is such a meme. And it came from Toy Story 1-Buzz Lightyear)
All the games and films told me that the zombies would die if we destroyed their heads. It did not matter if we used a bullet, sturdy weapons, or the environment squished their faces. As long as we cut off their heads, these undead creatures would fall like flies.
However, that did not happen when I took down these assholes camping behind the doors. Although they could hardly infect other humans, these headless zombies were still a drag for us.
My thoughts jinxed our situation. Since the zombie did not have eyes to see her surroundings, the zombified woman fell to the ground and grabbed the closest thing. And that closest individual was the sister's brother.
The zombie grabbed the kid's leg and refused to let it go. The girl and I drenched our faces with sweat when we recognised the boy had wounds on his thighs.
Fortunately, my superb reaction entered my brain and kicked the zombie right in her face! The undead creature crashed into her body downstairs, rolling like a barrel. The other zombie was far from our position. So I did not have to do anything but avoid and watch it squirm from afar.
Before anything else, I shut the door at the horde of zombies sprinting in our direction. Woefully, a zombie burst through the door's minuscule spaces and hung its head between them. A cracking sound echoed before me when the zombie desperately clogged the door.
"Would you fucking go! PLEASE, FUCK!"
I let out an uproar and finally pushed the door back with the kid's help. I didn't notice, but the lad slipped through between my thighs and tackled the door.
But my eyes widened when the door chopped off the zombie's face. Like the moving body of the headless undead, this zombie with only the face still had its undying life. Since it could still move, the zombie went towards the kid and almost bit his leg.
Thankfully, my kick went on time to save this kid's ass. After sweeping my foot across the zombie's face, the head rolled towards downstairs, falling close behind the other body.
This kid's sister did not make it in time to stop her brother from joining in the fray. It was a good thing that my reaction time was like a professional gamer playing in the tournament. If I idled for a second, this kid would have turned into a zombie and bit his sister's chest.
"Kid, you have guts. But that almost killed you. I'm an asshole, but I don't use children as my pawns. Only idiotic people," I exclaimed, while caressing the boy's already crazed hair.
"You're…. a zombie," the lad whispered, with his mouth gaped wide open. "I thought you're just ugly."
"Congratulations, kid! You pissed me off! And yes, I'm a zombie that retained my conscience. Happy?"
Just as I retorted at the kid, my inner thoughts clouded my judgement. Although I had a fiendish body, my zombified self needed some flesh to ease my hunger. I was like the rest of these zombies that would eat any living humans to sustain the body.
Even my system sent me a window, telling me I should eat a human before the virus could take over my conscience. But since I was in front of a kid, I forcefully pushed those indecent thoughts aside and shook my head.
"Is there something wrong?" The boy's sister went towards my flank and observed my body. "You look like you're in pain…. Are you feeling okay?"
"Do zombies even feel pain? What does it feel like to be a zombie?" the kid asked, with his eyes glittering like the night sky.
"Shut up, kid. You wouldn't want to know. And no problemo, amigo muchacha. I just feel like I could die right now. Oh, wait. I'm already dead," I exclaimed, while motioning my hands for the two of them to climb the stairs. "Now, if you don't want to become exotic food for the zombies, I advise you to escape this exit."
