"No….. Let's keep him alive. He saved your life, right?" Oyabun, who was the yakuza's leader, whispered to his mate.
After getting his command, the yakuza member nodded and went to the side. That yakuza subordinate would gather those who survived and retreat from the horde. The man only had his bat in his hands, but that bloke would do everything he could to save his brethren.
The other yakuza member shielded the leader with the spare gun he had. But it won't be too long before that firearm could run out of bullets, since they had been battling against these zombies for some time.
There were only ten yakuza remaining on this ground out of twenty I had witnessed before, including the three I interacted with. Unfortunately, that number would continue to decrease, thanks to the insects approaching our way.
It did not take ten seconds before five of them became appetizers for the zombified bugs, paired with the zombies rushing to its side. They died after those undead creatures pincered their bodies in half, while others got beheaded by those insect limbs. A couple of screams echoed from the yakuza's voice, with their eyes staring at their leader. The Oyabun watched everything unfold in front of him as his men gave their lives to save their boss.
With a click of his tongue, the Oyabun (I will call him that for now) clicked his tongue and went towards the remaining survivors he had. It was all up to these five yakuza members to escape alive before adding more food to the zombie's plate.
The Oyabun glanced at me for the umpteenth time before moving out in a different direction. It almost seemed that this man wanted me to come and help his merry men to safety. I did not have any choice but to continue forward on this trip.
I could only wish that the two siblings were still alive, even after all of this.
As those trains of thoughts entered my mind, the ground below our feet vibrated. Mother Earth did not cause this quake but something else lying below our ground.
"Motherfucker." I explained the situation in one word.
(Author's note: A nod to Nick Fury's line XD)
Gigantic worms emerged underground and slammed themselves against anything on the road. Each of those creeping creatures had slimy skin that belonged to a monster. Those noodle-like monsters had a mouth at their body's latter with decaying teeth that devoured the insects flying around.
I did not know if we were in a tight spot or an advantageous one, since these worms created chaos against the horde. The sudden appearance of mutated earthworms crashed the city into a million pieces. All the roads and bridges bent down, with the cars following afterwards.
The only thing that my mind thought about in this situation was the virus. That one hell of a virus constantly improved themselves and the infected, making them superpowered creatures. Within hours, the virus created by the government or whatnot created these demons that destroyed Earth.
If this continued any further, humans would go extinct and cannot live in this world. They had to move out of Earth and go to outer space. However, even before that could happen, those humans needed to go to NASA or the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
But that feat was like dreaming over to the moon.
"Follow me! We need to go to our underground base! From there, we need to reroute our escape plan and go to the shelter!" Oyabun shouted, and motioned his hands for the four remaining yakuza members.
Just before we could march behind Oyabun, a clutter of spiders arrived in front of us. The bug at our fore was also the spider who caught up to our behind. It was the same insect inside the apartment, for fuck's sake!
And now, those bugs brought their friends with them to feast on our bodies.
"Retreat!" I shouted.
Even though the yakuza heard my voice, they never heeded my instructions. Since I was not a part of their super cool club, those yakuza won't listen to a mere stranger, such as me. But among the five yakuza, the leader listened to my instructions and told his men to fall back.
We would survive if we could reroute our path towards the underground train rather than forcing our way towards the dangerous shortcut.
My eyes sparkled after witnessing Oyabun noting my words. It almost felt like I was a part of their gang for only five seconds in our marathon.
I brushed those awesome thoughts aside and focused on the road up ahead. And since we would return to the road we came from, I was running forward, together with Oyabun. He was also right beside me since the yakuza's leader was behind his group.
However, as luck would have it, another horde of undead entered our view. There was not one in a million chance we could fight our way through that army of undead creatures racing in our direction. If I had better arsenals, we could at least have a chance.
It's like an unbeatable level from a game that we cannot pass through. If there were a game master in this world, I would already curse him to death!
All six of us were like hams crashed against some loaf of bread and shoved it inside our mouths. These zombies were the bread that would sandwich and squeeze us to our deaths….
Oyabun cleared his throat and spoke a few words to all his yakuza men. "I am thankful to be the leader of this group. Forgive me, children. But this is the end of our line."
That man surrendered after witnessing such a cruel event at each of our sides. He knew we wouldn't stand a chance against these zombies. So it was better to accept our deaths and end this misery.
However, that was the problem. I. Cannot. Die. And I refuse to die on this street without seeing my girlfriend or getting laid!
"Are you out of your freaking mind! From where I came from, I believe in miracles! Some of you might not have any religion. But hear me out! If life gives you lemons, make a lemonade stand!"
After hearing my inspirational speech, none of the yakuza had kindled their motivation inside of them. I might have even made it worse since all yakuza closed their eyes and accepted their faith.
"LOOK! YOU CAN'T DIE BECAUSE I WENT ALL THE WAY HERE TO SAVE YOU! I WOULD BE GRATEFUL IF YOU….!" I shouted, while making my way towards Oyabun. "YOU TELL YOUR GANGSTERS TO KEEP LIVING! I WILL FUCKING EAT YOU, GUYS, IF YOU DON'T LISTEN!"
I did not know why, but my hands trembled after witnessing this man giving up his life. Even though I turned into a zombie, I could still feel emotions inside of me. There was still a shroud in every circumstance. But this Oyabun, the yakuza's leader, resigned his members and himself from this apocalypse.
"DO YOU EVEN CALL YOURSELF A MAN WITH BALLS! I AM FUCKING ZOMBIES, AND I HAVE BALLS, YOU COWARD!" I yelled, and flopped my two zombified eggs like bells chiming a song.
Oyabun gingerly opened his eyes and witnessed my face centimetres apart from him. If someone stood beside us and nudged us together, this gangster could take my first kiss.
But I paid no attention to that and continued glaring at the man with tattoos for his clothes. "Listen, you dragon ball Goku gangster. Tell your man to stop shitting themselves and walk your ass off of here! You understand! If I tell you there's a miracle, a miracle will happen!"
(Author's note: I linked the dragon tattoo the yakuza has to dragon ball XD since I'm writing a story in a Japanese setting.)
My growl did wonders as the zombified insects and regular sprinting zombies turned their attention elsewhere. Even Oyabun and I followed the undead creature's look, curious about what they had witnessed.
Within a few seconds, a gigantic, slimy thing emerged from the sewers. That dark entity sprung across the cesspool and uppercut multiple clusters of spiders within a moment. Those bugs flew out from the sides and lost some limbs when they crashed against the floor. A peculiar sound came afterwards when the insects fell against that odd presence.
Every cell inside my body jolted after recognising those ghastly features.
"Good lord, we need to run. If you think those spiders are a problem, wait until you fight that thing over there!" I told the yakuza, and led the way.
I had problems memorising the roads even though I was a Japanese citizen living in Japan. But that did not mean that I did not know the trains and their stations. That place where Oyabun mentioned was also the base of this yakuza.
Oyabun snapped from his daydream and shouted at his men to follow the oddball zombie, which was me. Those yakuza members, who thought they would die without giving a fight, braced themselves for another brawl.
