"Jokes aside, we need to escape this place. And if we want to do that, we need to destroy the metallic gate before that thing eats us," I exclaimed.
"What do you mean by that, zombie guy!" the girl asked, while shaking her hands.
"That thing."
As soon as I answered the girl's question, I pointed my quivering hand at the backdoor from where we came in. The three of us turned our heads in that direction and greeted the spider.
That arachnid crushed all the zombies near its area, together with the bloody human corpses. And as the insect went towards our figures, those undead creatures scooched at the spider's flank.
Those piles of carcasses people earlier had also turned back to life in their zombie form. Those groups of zombies added their numbers into the room, making our lives difficult. Since I had two humans beside me, I had no choice but to defend them while thinking of a way to go through that locked door.
There were no other humans alive in this room except for these siblings. If this pair died, I would have no means of searching for an electric outlet or a generator. And even if I did, that option would take me forever.
"Here's our option. Plan one, you two find something inside this room and use it as a weapon to destroy that gate. Make yourselves useful and fetch those weapons for me. Option two, we use the spider as our cannon and destroy that door. Somebody has to play bait, which would probably die during the process. Or, the third one where we all die…. But we can't, since I still need you two. And I can't die, since I need to save my girlfriend!" I explained to the girl and the kid. "Choose your poison, lads. Or you two might become a zombie just like me."
Just before these two humans could pick, a blaring sound echoed outside of this room. Even the spider became confused after listening to the peculiar sound coming from afar.
After a few seconds, my spidey senses…. err, zombie senses warned me about the wall on my right. I did not know if it was also an ability the system granted me or my gut instinct screaming at me.
Regardless of whence it came from, I snatched the two humans and covered them using my back. Since I cannot die, I used my entire body to shield them from any debris or dangers coming from that wall.
"Why do I have to babysit you two?!" I mumbled, as I kissed the ground, together with these two siblings.
As we slammed ourselves on the ground, the three of us dodged the flying storm of pebbles headed towards us. Fortunately, my back shielded these two humans. I even took the sharp edges of these stones to keep these siblings safe.
Upon glancing at the side, a monstrous being emerged from the hole, slapping the spider towards the other side. That figure that appeared before us had an inkling characteristic of the titan that chased me around before arriving in this place. It had the form of a human girl, with a recognizable skirt dangling on its hips.
My deceased heart jolted back alive, as if a defibrillator pressed itself against my chest.
"Why are you-?!"
I couldn't even finish my sentence as the two giants brawled against each other, with the titan on the winning side. But I did not care who had the advantage in this battle! As long as this miracle bastard caught the spider's attention, it was good enough for me.
But before I could even escape this place, the titan turned its face to me as if it wanted to say something.
"Food…. Me wants….. foood!"
Good lord, it was a mistake hearing those incoherent words! If only I knew the monster would say that phrase, I could have already fled this place, with these two humans with me.
All the options I thought of went off the roof. But that wasted product led us to this miracle. I could only deduce that I had already used all my luck for this occurrence, which made me thankful for that bastard's appearance.
If that thing did not appear and punched the hell out of the spider's face, we would have already died.
"Run! Let's make a run for it!" I commanded the two humans and went to the hole that the titan created.
Those two siblings followed my lead and stayed close behind me. Luckily, the hole that the monstrous creature led straight towards the rooftop. It was also the place where the other survivors escaped. The only thing we needed to do now was to; use the debris as our bridge towards the other side.
As if adding the cherry on top, this yakuza did not aim their guns in our direction. Despite climbing on an obvious surface, those hoodlums did not notice our presence. They kept firing their guns in different directions, which made me wonder why.
As soon as we reached the rooftop, my eyes widened in surprise. All my limbs shivered like an alarm clock ringing at midnight.
"What the hell happened here….?"
It made little sense that the zombie apocalypse ruined the Earth in a matter of hours. Well, it had been approximately a day when I first came alive... or undead. But that still did not answer the question about our situation!
When the three of us glanced around, hundreds of various zombified insects, birds, and regular zombies greeted our eyes. Those bugs were like the spider that entered the room, but even bigger than I could expect. There were even cockroaches that had the size of a building roaming around the city. The mosquitoes also accompanied those groups, with their heights as large as the automobiles in the streets.
Upon gazing below, dozens of zombified hounds and felines chased away the unfortunate humans wandering outside their houses. I could only guess that those idiotic crowds tried escaping the place since they arrived inside their cars. But the four-legged living-dead pursued their vehicle's muffler.
Some zombies even had unique abilities that I did not know. Those special infected had multiple arms, spew out acid, and other more that I couldn't keep track of them.
If I squinted my eyes far enough, there were other survivors also on their rooftops. But it wasn't too long before those flying birds and insects scooped them, or the regular zombies chewing off their limbs.
The scenes I witnessed were enough to piss my pants. But because of my body's structure, that secretion did not occur.
However, as I turned around, those two siblings had a puddle of acrid liquid dripping from their knees. It did not take Sherlock to understand what happened to the two of them.
But I cannot blame them for their actions, considering the weight of this scenery. If I were a human too, I would have done the same.
"Where are we going to go?" the little boy asked, as he braced his arms around my hips.
The girl also held her brother's hands just in case something horrible would happen to him. Even though the cards got stacked against her, the woman wanted to protect her little brother from danger.
I looked around my vicinity, hoping that I could spot an answer to that question. Time continued running out from the hourglass, with the zombies catching onto us on our backs. If we wanted to see the sun tomorrow, now was the time to plan this escape.
While I thought about our scheme, dozens of gunshots echoed in front of me. That part was also the emergency stairs that the building had downwards. And when I went towards that site, this yakuza was on the ground, clashing against those zombies.
Those gunshots attracted most of the horde, which lured the zombies near the streets. It won't take some time before these yakuza members would die at the hands of those undead creatures.
Thanks to their battle, a lightbulb emerged on top of my head.
"Okay, here's the plan. We go down these stairs and tiptoe our way to the backside of this building. From there, we should find a place to stay, a car, and the electrical outlet that you know of, girl," I explained, while motioning my fingers as if we're playing charades.
It was a decent plan, if I say so myself. However, the only thing that we needed to do now was to perform that escape plan. Before we could go towards the other side of this mall, we had to crouch through the streets. And we had to do that undetected and behind this yakuza.
Those two siblings nodded at me and heeded my instructions. Since they wanted to maintain their human form, I doubted that these two humans would ignore my words. I was the only zombie that was willing to help them, with a weird ability of immortality.
As we continued marching onwards, my foot stepped on something. I gazed below and picked the item in my hands.
"A photograph?" I murmured, while reading the letter attached behind the picture. "To my super cool dad…."
