Chapter 18 - Amari and Kawai (3)

As we glanced behind, the door at the back banged into a thunderous sound. When we squinted our eyes, dozens of zombies greeted our sight. All of them punched the door while growling at our figures.

"Why are there zombies in that room?!" the girl asked, as she slowly backed off.

I remembered zombies would follow the sound's origin, regardless of its location. It happened when I first met them near my car and down the road. As long as those undead creatures heard the noise, they would swarm the place in no time.

The gun was the culprit of these zombies crowding the door. That gunshot was enough to alert every zombie inside this department store, including the spider.

I pulled the woman back right next to the door and covered her mouth using her clothes. I was an asshole, but I did not want to infect someone willy-nilly for no reason. My cells filled my skin with puss and infectious liquid, which could infect this girl.

"Don't recklessly move around! We need a plan to get out of here and reach the other room," I exclaimed.

"What's our plan?" the shivering girl asked. "They're both closing onto us. What do we do?"

"We will make a run for it," I answered with a straight face. "That's my master plan."

"What?!" The girl blinked a thousand times as she heard my answer. "Are you out of your mind? Are you a lunatic? Can't we make some protective wear like from the movies? We could attract those zombies into another room!"

This girl knew nothing about me. I cannot die, but I cannot fight them with my fist either. All I could do around them was to run away from the scene.

"Those suggestions sound really great! Not gonna lie! But the last zombified brain cell inside my head won't accept that," I retorted, while grabbing the girl's hands. "This is faster than your plans."

We had a simple plan… Well; it was my decision to do this since we had already wasted some precious seconds. There was no way for us to survive if we had to outsmart these zombies for now.

Our little legs would be our best friends for this circumstance.

Without giving the girl a moment to think, I dashed straight outside our room. I glued my eyes forward, hoping to reach the room next door.

The woman tried squirming herself out of my grasp. However, as soon as we went out, all the energy inside the girl left her body.

There was a zombified spider waiting for us at the staircase's end. Inside the spider's mouth was an arm belonging to a zombie's limb. That fucking arachnid ate not only humans but also its own undead kind.

"Is that the-?"

Before the girl could even complete her sentence, I cut her off and shouted, "He sure is. Come on, let's run!"

The dazed girl stood still after witnessing the insect in front of us. She mumbled some incoherent words that nobody understood, including my Japanese ears. The woman's hands also shivered like a vibrator left in the open, which made me concerned about her circumstance.

But since this girl was a stranger in my eyes, I did not care if she had any complications inside her body. That would be her fault, not mine.

We also had another enemy besides the spider. As I turned my head around, the swarm of undead finally slammed the door open. A blasting sound reverberated throughout the rooms, signalling our incoming fight. Since these zombies could not feel pain, they used their bodies and banged them against the door.

Those zombies who made it through our previous room sprinted towards us, while some limped like retired people inside their nursing homes. As luck would have it, all of those undead creatures were better athletes than the ones who took part in the Olympic games.

"Run!" I shouted, but the girl refused to heed my call. "I told you to run, goddammit!"

I tried shaking the woman's body, but this girl wouldn't budge a muscle. I couldn't just leave her here, since I still needed her knowledge about the electrical outlet. It would make my life a drag if I lost my only lead in finding a power source for my charger.

"Ah, you know what?! Have it your way! Don't move at all!!! I WILL DO IT MYSELF!"

(Author's note: Insert Thanos scene)

I lost all my patience and carried the girl over my head. She looked like a tray above me, as I raised my arms and became this girl's transportation zombie machine. The two of us looked like idiots when I carried the girl like a ladder. But no one was there to judge our actions, considering that the world had already changed.

Thankfully, my body did not feel pain because I was also a zombie. So carrying a girl or any heavy objects would not strain any muscles in my body. My entire body had a weak foundation, but that did not mean I could not lift a young girl around my age. Although this occurrence disobeyed physics, Science, and Anaphy of a human body, I still raised the girl with ease.

As soon as I entered the next room, I threw the girl on the floor and pushed the empty cabinets towards the door…. It was not just the cabinets but other furniture and items I found inside this room. They fell in front of the door, and in the nick of time, blocked the entrance. The zombie who came afterwards crashed her head against the reinforced door.

If I did nothing, those zombies would have already entered the room.

But it won't be too long that those zombies would make their way through inside while tackling the barricades I made. We were not just dealing with the zombies, but also the monstrous spider with eight legs! Those zombies were nothing compared to that walking piece of shit inside this store.

I did not have any time to spare and did everything I could to delay the inevitable. As I successfully shoved those gigantic items, I grabbed the girl above my head and gazed inside the room.

Despite the building's size from afar, this room had an interior measurement of a swimming pool…. The olympian swimming pool with divers and shit seen in some places, especially hotels, were the ones I talked about. But instead of the crystal and blue water, my eyes greeted the wide wooden floor filled with nothing but empty shelves and containers. If I had to guess it right, this place was a stockroom or a storage room.

I just made it all up. Who knows what this store hid behind the mass. It could be anything like a pack of condoms dedicated to a room…

I glided my eyes across the room and spotted three doors in front of me. Each gate had nothing inside, since the daylight didn't reach that place. The sign in the middle was the only hint that a door would lead us towards a staircase.

"How many floors does this fucking building have?!" I cursed, while standing in the middle of those three doors.

I only had to choose one door and make it count, or else those zombies would get my ass. And I'd like to have my ass not eaten by those weirdoes. If those undead creatures were females with hour-glass bodies, I might reconsider.

(Author's Note: I have nothing against body types of both females and males. As long as you're kind to others, God bless you, and have a great day!)

After a few seconds of thinking, the girl carried by my hands woke up. She demanded that I place her down. So I followed her instructions and helped the girl get on her feet. As soon as she landed on the floor, she glared at the doors and studied each of them.

"Do you have any clue where your brother headed? And I thought your brother was inside here?" I asked.

The girl beside me stayed quiet for a few seconds before giving me her reply. "He's still here. My brother never went to those three doors. This room was filled with people a while ago…."

When the woman finished her sentence, zombies appeared at each door. They banged their heads like fans of some sort attending a metal band concert. But instead of hailing for the band's name, they growled at our sight, wishing to chew on our flesh….

Well, this girl's flesh, to be precise. I had already turned into a zombie. Although some zombies might eat other zombies, these undead creatures were nothing like those.

"Is your brother…. you know, dead?" I whispered.

"NO!" the girl shouted. "My little brother is still here, hiding inside these boxes. Help me find him, please."

"How sure are you that he's still alive and avoided those zombies?"

Upon asking that question, a box on the right quaked coincidentally.
