"QUEST? I'M ALREADY ON A QUEST! A QUEST TO STAY ALIVE!" I cried at the floating boxes in front of me.
WIthout briefing me about anything, the box gave me a quest that I must adhere to finish. And if I failed to kill the zombies, those undead creatures would kill me, not the system. Even without that description, I already had an idea what would happen if I couldn't kill them.
"And what's with this system?" I murmured, while staring at the box. "Is this some sort of game?"
Only games or fantasy-like settings would have this power called systems. And in the real world, scientists could not prove this magical prowess. However, now that this happened to me, I had no other choice but to believe in this system.
It was the only thing that could help me find an outlet and charge my phone to meet with my girlfriend. That was my goal for now, besides surviving inside this hell with a crowd of zombies.
I glanced at my fore and mumbled, "So I just have to kill these fuckers, right?"
I was a lover, not a fighter. If I had a weapon, it would be my brain. It was the perfect thing that I could use against my idiotic enemies, especially when they were all zombies. Although the zombies did not have a mind, those bastards could gnaw me to death. And since those undead creatures felt nothing, hitting them became an arduous feat for me to do.
Even after learning all of that, I had no other choice but to fight my way out of here. That system, which the box revealed, was my one-way ticket for that exit. And if I had to guess, I also turned into one of them. I should already be dead, but fate kept me alive. My infected arm proved my theory right, with the bite mark scarring my thigh.
However, this situation was tougher compared to the last time I fought against these thugs. When I protected my girlfriend from the zombies, I had a weapon/. I used a metallic bottle and slammed them with it.
But that melee weapon vanished from the ground, abandoning me for this fight. I could only guess that the bottle got kicked by a zombie, which ultimately led it to slide below ground.
There was nothing I could use against these undead beings. I had to brawl with them, using only my fist and reaction time.
"I need to fight them separately and use my advantages. Those zombies always extend their arms, reaching out for their food. I will use that opportunity to break the zombie's arms or legs before finishing them," I deduced, while gazing at the creepy crawlers.
After rehearsing my actions inside my head, I put my scheme into motion, only to realise a mistake. I forgot to add my strength to that equation.
Since I was a zombie who had eaten nothing yet, my muscles moved like a feather. As soon as I latched my fist into an undead, the zombie did not even budge. My punch was merely a tickle for the undead bloke, with its eyeless sockets staring into me.
"I don't know how you can see without eyes, but please let go of my hand," I squealed, and slowly retracted my hand from the zombie.
However, the zombie seized this opportunity and flung me backwards against a wall. I cannot compare my strength with this zombie after what I had witnessed and experienced.
These zombies had more undead flesh than me! They stood around eight to nine feet, which made them tougher for me to hit. I did not know why, but the virus made them grow like a fucking tree. I could only wish that this virus also grew my sword between my thighs, if that were the case.
"What was in that meat you ate, man. You're like superman…. or super dead," I mumbled, while standing on the ground. "Do you know that you're uglier than before when you're still a human?"
Throwing jokes at these weirdoes was the only thing I was good at in this battle. If I knew this would happen, I would have placed myself inside a cage and fought the undertaker for god's sake.
But I had more problems to take care of other than thinking about wrestling matches. The zombie in front of me had the power of two cars barging towards me.
However, before I could even make a move, the zombie in front of me fastened itself on my arm, nearly taking it off. Since my cells had already deteriorated and turned into zombie meat, the pain was not on my menu. It was more like a puppet losing an arm when there was a problem with the limbs.
"Hey, cut it out! That's gross!" I cried.
I twisted my body and went to my side to shake off the madman. But the two zombies waited for me at the side and did the same thing.
That pair of zombies ripped off my left arm, which was, fortunately, my non-dominant hand. I wiggled for the second time and escaped from their embrace, with my left arm resting on the ground.
"There goes my pizza hand…. How am I going to climb ladders now, huh?!" I shouted, but my words only agitated the zombies.
There was no chance that these idiotic punks knew my words. But regardless of the word's meanings, these zombies threatened to kill me.
The box from before resurfaced inside my mind, which made me more anxious. If I failed in this quest, I would lose my life. And that was not a joke when staring at these three zombies coming after me.
But instead of wallowing away, I came up with a plan without my two arms. There was a movie I watched from before that I could use in this fight. It was about a superhero movie where they fought a towering man with a spider swinging around.
However, I did not have any web-shooters or flexibility like the rest of those heroes. All I had was a numb and already dead body.
"I just have to aim at your legs instead!" I shouted, and swept my leg at the three zombies.
After receiving my swiping attack, those three flesh-eaters fell on the ground, squirming like snails. I did not even realise that I succeeded in shaking their balance, considering the power I had as a zombie. But no matter how weak my muscles were right now, disrupting one's balance was still a cheap trick that could win me this fight.
And before the undead could even rise, I kicked each of their heads, squashing it like a pumpkin. These zombies might have had the numbers, but I had the brains to do it. They did not know what was coming after them.
"That's why you eat brains, dimwits. Oh yeah, I am back, baby!" I shouted, while raising my hand towards the heavens.
While I celebrated my victory, the box appeared before me. It reminded me of the task and the progress I made.

"Oh, shit... where's the other one?" I gasped, while slowly turning around. "Oh, boy…."
My victorious screech attracted the big, bad zombie from behind. Since zombies could hear someone like a human would, this lone undead immediately knew my location. After discerning my voice, it eventually came after me.
I was expecting a horde of zombies to come and fetch me. But…. this muscular undead holding a hammer in both of his hands was more terrifying than what I had in mind.
"A-Are you a carpenter? Drop your weapons, dude, before things could get ugly," I pleaded, while drifting back.
This event was my first time seeing a zombie arming himself with tools used by humans. If I could remember it correctly, zombies did not have that kind of intelligence. Those bastards only knew how to devour in numbers and attack any human being on sight. Some of them were slow (just like the zombies I fought from the car before), while others were fast as a jaguar.
'THEN WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING!' my mind screamed, while ordering me to run.
The chunky, zombified man dashed straight at me while lifting his hammers. There was no way I would fight such a gigantic zombie, especially with a weapon. And even if that muscle builder ran towards me with his birthday suit, I would have probably run too, like what I did.
Thank the heavens above that this road would lead me towards the city. Or else I would have died before I knew it.
